  • The Eddystone 358X (B34) Communications Receiver was first manufactured in 1941, as far as I can discover. It was designed for use aboard ships. Please look out for Part Two... coming soon.

Wow, this brings back memories. When I was a young teenager back in the early 70s and started showing an interest in radio and electronics, my dad brought one of these home one day, probably from a second hand shop. This was my introduction to short wave radio and I was hooked. I remember how heavy it was, and the big box of coils that came with it. Happy days. I vowed that one day I'd become a radio amateur and finally passed my full license during lockdown in 2021 at the grand old age of 62, all because of one of these radios!

      Hi David,
Congratulations on your license, well done! The old Eddystone radios were great, I'm glad you were inspired!
      All the best,
      Ray.

Hi Ray. Fantastic radio, love the plug in modules. It's always a treat to see things made back when they were built to last, and people took pride in their work. I am looking forward to more videos. You take care. Bobby

Interesting radio. To point out the obvious, they don't make them like this anymore.

    Ray,
A great story to go along with this set, too many come without a story when we receive/buy them. I've just had a quick read up on it, I can see what you mean about it being heavy, 50lbs is a dead weight for an item of this size! RM seems to think it was made 1940/41 so you're correct about the age. You shouldn't have too much difficulty making a box for the power supply. Should look great with a fresh lick of paint, be sure to show it when you're done.
    Regards,
    Dylan
