@@mattmattermattest9580 Recycling plastics isn't that easy, look it up. The vast majority of it gets burned for energy or dumped in landfilles (often it gets shipped to Asia or Africa first). The only good way is to not produce single use plastic in the first place.
@@adrianbrunner2281 Damn, guess I was wrong then. :( I understand the complaints now.
I don't understand why y'all are hating so hard on Blue Apron. Most of the groceries I buy at supermarkets come packaged in plastic. (Yes, they're even wrapping whole fresh vegetables in plastic now, and some stores add a styrofoam tray as well!) The typical supermarket also generates MASSIVE amounts of plastic waste in the backroom that the customer never sees. Yes, there are better stores with less-polluting options, but these greener options do not exist where many U.S. consumers live.

Fun fact about spinach. It's nutritional value is maximized when wilted, not when raw or fully cooked.

I’m hoping you won’t delete this. Here’s a warning about Blue Apron everyone! Blue Apron rarely give enough food to feed a family of four even when you order for four. Sometime there chicken once cooked has an unnatural rubbery texture that no matter how you cook it, it will come out unnaturally rubbery. Sometimes there also missing ingredients. No service is perfect ladies and gentlemen.
Online recipes will often say they feed four people but even just glancing at the recipe I can tell it would barely feed my husband and I. We're not big people and our kids don't eat much, but I usually have to multiply four-serving recipes by 1.5 or 2. I'd be so frustrated if a prepacked box didn't even have enough food.
Seriously, Blue Apron looks like it's delivering more trash than food. So much packaging :(
Would you like them to ship the meat and all the other stuff in a paper bag to front door? Have you never seen how stuff arrives at a actual grocery store? Same packaging.
Not really. Grocery stores get the stuff in bulk which uses less packaging than individual bits. As shown in the video the packages have not that much food and use a lot of packaging. It just doesn't seem very environmentally friendly is all.
@@noahdienel2598 just recycle it then if it really is such a concern for you
True enough, but how change it while keeping the convenience?
As someone said in another thread, it would be nice if the packaging were biodegradable - after all, we do have plastics that are food safe AND can degrade normally (i.e. via compost).
It's more expensive, though...

Does anyone else hate the idea of Blue Apron? I can absolutely understand it's merits if you're housebound, a full time carer, and some other issues that require permanent home stay. But, it just seems like the most ridiculous addition of plastic and other waste. And you're just given whatever vegetables they find rather than choosing your own. I just don't get it
Some folks are busy. I do think they could be less wasteful with the packaging though.
pretty much all the packaging is recyclable.
I'm lucky to have a local version that only uses minimal paper and cardboard and picks up the packaging when they deliver you a new box. Though plastic is better for the environment when it comes to shipping it (lighter weight and better packing density=less gasoline). I wish it was as easy as plastic bad, wood good.
The box they come in has a large amount go packing material to keep things cool, too. It's fine if you are a recycler, but if you don't have easy recycling available It's tons and tons of waste.
Recycle often just means it gets burned in a powerplant instead of put in a landfill, or dumped in the ocean in some countries. =/

People that are haughtily telling others that they can just recycle the plastic bags all the Blue Apron food comes in: that's true, but only if you wash the bags. If you don't, the recycling plants will actually sort them into regular trash and send them off to a landfill during the sorting process. The plastic used for food is *contaminated*. And you will never convince me, or anyone critical of Blue Apron, that someone who is too lazy to do their own shopping is willing to wash plastic bags before recycling them.
@Daniel - spittin' the truth! Also the first 'R' of the three 'R's is 'R'educe.
While that's true, it is also worth mentioning that washing the bags waste water. There's no good solution really... Except not using Blue Apron.
You will also never convince me that people recycle anything for most the USA. I hate to break it to you, but people use hello fresh and blueapron for reasons that have zero to do with that. Its not being lazy for those in rural areas. You do realize that majority of people live in towns with just a walmart to shop at right?
@Acerhen - valid point that I hadn't thought of. There are huge swaths of urban and rural U.S. that live in veritable 'food deserts' , without even a close by WalMart; only a gas station or a Dollar General to shop at for groceries. But I wonder if these services are aimed at and priced for that segment of the market?
I don't use Blue Apron, and I don't plan on using it, but funny enough, that's exactly what I would do. I would be willing to wash some plastic instead of doing my shopping, as it would save me so much time and be less stressful. But I'm probably rather the exception (maybe other students that live alone?), and it seems that plastic is not the only issue with the packaging.
Though to be fair, many foods in the store are packaged in plastic in a way that is just wasteful. I think Blue Apron could make themselves a better name by packaging their food smarter, which should be possible, e.g. they could package all vegetables into one single piece of plastic (or even paper) instead of having every piece of fruit and vegetable separated into different bags. That's just one example, but certainly could be much more clever with this than what they do.
Jesus, there's more plastic than food in a blue apron box!

Andrew, just caught an old episode of Julia Child, and she just enlightened me on asparagus.
She doesn't snap or cut the ends, she just trims off the very bottom, and peels the outside of the hard bottoms that are usually wasted. All this time I cut or bend and snapped. And was basically throwing so much delicious asparagus away.
Just peel the hard rine off the bottom and you can enjoy the whole stalk almost.

I have made both the sheet pan salmon and one pot chicken now. I have to say, these are both staying in my dinner rotation. I love the versatility of both dishes and have made changes to both to suit my taste. Very good recipes!
I don't understand why so many people are being negative on this video. He has the right to make a living, give him a bit of a break! Love you, Babs! Keep doing your thang!
I understand that this is a payday but who thought Blue Apron was the right idea for this channel? I doubt most people interested in cooking are as interested in buying junk ingredients individually wrapped in crap plastic..
This must be a troll or just a douchebag with their head stuck so far up their own ass.
Blue Apron sponsors a fucking GAMING channel and you're seriously asking why a food company would...advertise on a food channel...
Captain Zeke...man you clearly don't get their point. He's asking if its a good idea for Binging with Babish, a channel that promotes high quality ingredients and quality cooking to advertise Blue Apron, which is crap ingredients and incredibly wasteful. Of course it makes sense for Blue Apron, your reading comprehension is just garbage.
no one interested in cooking would watch this channel anyway, it's so low quality knowledge
I used Blue Apron for a minute. Where did you get the idea that they're junk ingredients? They were always fresh and well-picked, sounds like you've just got a weird bone to pick with them. That said, I dropped the service due to the excessive packaging.
they're not junk ingredients dumbass
I've not seen this Knife used yet on bwb. I did some research and it seems to be a Shun Classic 8-in Chef's Knife, hopefully that answers if any of yall were wondering.
I made this with sweet potatoes, leftover plums, walnuts, red wine and some beef chuck. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Hey babs! Loved it! I have an idea I’d like to share! I would love to see you do
Something with venison! Not all people like it because it is a more gamey meat but I like it! I don’t care how you do it or what it is but I’d love to see you use venison in some way. Anyone that agrees please like so he will see!
wHY DID YOU WEAR A BLACK APRON FOR THIS
A total missed opportunity
cuz we wuz kangs
Because Andrew's got his own branding to follow
To represent the EVIL polluting company he's promoting.
He was afraid it would screw up the CGI Special Effects screen.
I made the sheet pan dinner and it was delicious! I used spicy mustard instead of dijon, and my vinegarette looked more liquid than this one, but it turned out great, definitely recommend trying.
Today's sponsor is a box of non recyclable plastic. And a little bit of food....
Actually plastic is 100% recyclable. Blue Apron and over packaging are still bullshit and terrible for the environment.
Como dialogar con los hñ7
yeah but it ends up in our oceans and not recycled my man. Just because something is 100% recycable doesn't mean people actually do that.
Plastics=/=Plastics not every form of plastic is recycable. Most of it is either contaminated with, let's say food or dirt, that washing is not economically viable or the plastic is mixed with other sorts of plastics which makes recycling hard or even the single-origin plastic has just the option to be downcycled as filling material, insulation or heat by burning.
@@RobGodMC the not-economically viable problem could be suppressed. You can't protect the environment under capitalism, unless someone benefits economically from it, of course. Then they'll be the greenest of the greens. Green washing all over...
PLEASE! Do a vegetarian one next!
PLEASE drop the snap
Here you go ...

I’m in culinary classes and I still watch this.
Or you can go to the store...
what's the fun in that
Save money, get some fresh air, dress up as a JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure character and prank some depressed worker
I deliever to Rural areas with nothing but farmland. Saves them some travel distance.
What's the fun in having pre-packaged food delivered to you? The fun IS in getting out, going to the store, finding the perfect ingredients, actually being part of the world.
Yeah... Let's comment on a video where it's totally not necessary
Loved the video, broke college students definitely needed this. Can we have a series of these?
I can never get tired of listening to his voice and learning so much about food
"One pot meal" means you cook the whole meal in one pot. It doesn't mean you use multiple pots and then just add it all back to one pot at the end.
I know, right. Could make an amazing curry or stew in less steps and washing up. I dont get the need to keep reading the internal temperature of everything as well. Who constantly sticks a themometer in chicken thighs or salmon. Just eyeball it or keep an eye on time.
@@SC-ew2fc for the temperature I think he's doing it so he won't get a bunch of people in comments saying "what temperature/how do I know when it's done/I don't want salmonella" etc. you really don't need to do temp readings if you're experienced and know what a fully cooked chicken thigh feels like but this series is aimed at noobs
I think it's just him meming on the the recommended internal temperature. In one of his videos you can hear how he chopped up the clip to include him saying it in a more monotone voice.
The only other cooking pan i saw him use was the one to toast the pecans. Are you high off your ass?
S C checking temp is for the nitwits who *would* serve pink chicken
Idk i got me papa johns on speed dial and they know my phone number, address, and pizza of choice
Each time I see your video Babish, It makes me want to resign from my job, start a shack at a beach and serve warm delicious food to everyone who walks in. Peace!
Everyone is way too critical. Without sponsors in this day and age of RUclips, our favorite channels can’t exist. Quit throwing a tantrum, and enjoy your FREE ENTERTAINMENT.
It’s so easy even jackfilms can do it
The satisfaction you get when you make a successful meal is such a drug.
I’m excited about this video, because while I love a good sous vide duck breast, most nights I need something between that and a bowl of Lucky Charms.
Can't go wrong with Lucky Charms
@@ShortThe1st they did say most nights. Which means some nights... Lucky charms.
Yeah, I default to Lucky Charms with greater frequency than I’d care to admit, but my thighs tell all my secrets. 😏
so, like, Lucky Charms confit?
Jason Young You genius
I actually tried that pasta recipe. Not via Blue Apron, though, just by making it myself. It's actually really good.
Awesome video! all these guys complaining about blue apron being your sponsor guys if you don't like blue apron don't buy it. Simple easy recipes ima try the chicken tonight should be awesome and easy. Thanks keep up the awesome show! :)
Have you ever considered doing a collab with one of the historical cooking shows like Townsends? I think it might be interesting to see a modern interpretation of a meal from the 1800s as well as attempting to make a modern meal in an 1800s colonial America setting.
Yes I would like to see that too 😄
Love it bab!
Holy heck!! How did I just find your channel! I’m obsessed! Thank you! Excited to binge what else you have! 👏🏻
Pro tip: watch after eating to prevent feeling hungry from watching these videos.
Why can't blue apron use paper bags or something disposable for the packaging, i doubt any of the stuff would go bad(probably meat, i dunno) if they deliver it fresh.
yeah dude i definitely want my pesto sauce in a cotton muslin bag.
yep, me too
Watching binging with babish while eating dull food gives it more flavor😁
My best friend and I made the salmon dish and it was *chef's kiss*
Blue apron seems so environmentally unfriendly with all those bags and plastics
But grocery bags and plastic packages are even worse
Pretending the grocery store isn't
@@OhNoTheFace I'm not pretending anything
thank you so much for using wild salmon not enough people know how amazing it is compared to what most people get
Oh boy! $50 off my first two weeks for-- was it 2 or 4 meals across those 2 weeks? That means I'm saving money on overpriced ingredients I could buy for a fraction of the price! And what's that? It makes up for it with an easy recipe that I could look up for free using the very same resources I used to watch this video?! What a bargain!
Might as well just never go to a restaurant, since its cheaper at home! Better yet, might as well never go shopping, since those products are overpriced too! Just start a farm!
Restaurants typically cook pretty well, since that's their purpose, while Blue Apron is just a different method of *getting* the ingredients, not making the food. And you can get the ingredients cheaper than Blue Apron at the store. Farming is actually more expensive when you consider the overall cost of managing the farm between tools, land and all the labor. :D But good attempt!
The whole point of a restaurant is they cook and probably better than most people can at home. Use your head FFS it's basically a recipe that sends the food, go online get a recipe that will tell you what you need and how much alot even tell you where to get it. Then follow the recipe same as you would from blue apron and your done you'll even save enough money over time to I dunno pay for a meal in a restaurant
You simply don't understand a service, so you knock it? Its not about going to the store and getting the ingredients, its about not having to worry about wasting time doing that very thing. You act like everyone lives next to a store and can just grab the items in the exact spot inside. You also fail to mention that you can't simply buy the ingredients..you have to buy MORE of what they give you. So you end up wasting stuff if you are using it for just the meals alone. They send you the exact amount of stuff you need.
Thank you Arnold and acerhen, you guys got my point. It flew over scott's and Mei's heads.
