  • We've got a cylinder barrel in to repair off a BIG Mining Haul truck! This is the hoist cylinder barrel off a Caterpillar 789 Mining haul truck and the inside has been damaged. In this part 1 video we show the step by step process of disassembling the damaged cylinder barrel and start machining up the new barrel. First is machining off the barrel end and head flange. We then start machining up the new cylinder barrel by turning down one end to fit the head flange. The head flange is then installed with an interference fit before dual shield welding the head flange onto the new barrel. Stay tuned for Part 2 where we finish machining, honing and welding the new barrel!
    In this video we are using:
    Hafco TM-26120G Centre Lathe
    WIA 500i Weldmatic welder

    Great video, and as always, the "go pro pooch" doesn't disappoint! He must give those cameras a real workout. Careful with George and his buddies as birds do essentially two things in life: eat and poop, everywhere.! I like how the outtakes show you guys laughing at mistakes and frustrations. Keep it up!

    I’ve been watching your videos for a while so I got a tape measure that is metric & imperial so that I can get a perspective of what you are doing.
    The mm equals a penny & the M equals a 10$ bill, so it’s easy to use, but I grew up using the imperial measurements.
    Thank you Sir & Ma’am for your videos very interesting

    Thank you so much for taking us through this process and providing details for guys like me. Your skills are top-notch! I really appreciate that you take the time to explain how the parts are used that come into your shop. It's a good history lesson on how big machines are operated and how you maintain them. The birds and Homey and the out-takes are always a highlight.

    I really love the variety of parts you´re showing off on the channel. What's even better is that you're showing where the part is used and the nwhy it failed and how future failures can be mitigated. Top notch!!

    Good thing you have the Outtakes. Otherwise we would think nothing ever fails to work perfectly on every job. 😄 Your machining skills notwithstanding, your ability to completely think the entire job through is amazing. You never seem to be in a position of "what to do next." Friday mornings are the highlight of my video week. You two make a great team..!!

    I'm a wanna be senior "machinist"...(not even close) with a hobby lathe and mill. Sometimes it's quite a while using my machines. But after watching you I feel I have to Mahe some chips. You are very methodical and very knowledgeable in your trade. Watching you do your work and watch the machining and welding is almost THERAPUTIC. And your videographer is fantastic!!!

    I have no training in your field of expertise, none at all. However, the way that you explain where the part fits, how it functions, what possibly caused the damage and the steps and procedures to repair enables me to follow with understanding. This is, ‘so good’.

A dog at our house this week just lost her squeaky chicken in the bush, so methinks a visit to get a few more and I'm going to send one homey's way for a belated birthday present. Yous are a great team. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Mate, that HFM @ 2:13 you welded on, has to be nearly worth A$50. Just a backyard swarf maker, and steel is bloody expensive now. Years ago, when the Monetary Standard was in the process of being sorted out, they tossed up between Gold and Aluminium. Steel has gone up more than Gold, this last few years. Nice Job, Kurtis.

    • @KennyEaton603
      @KennyEaton603 Год назад +3

      Steel is stupid expensive. Both cost of material and shipping has doubled or more in recent years.

    • @aserta
      @aserta Год назад +2

      @@KennyEaton603 Yeah, but that's on account of the muscovians destroying one of the biggest steel plants in Europe in their lunatic bid to destroy Ukraine. Then there's the sanctions they got hit with as well, basically it's artificial in nature, not because suddenly steel is a highly sought after commodity or rare item. There's plenty to go around, just not from the sources that made it a stable item. Until production makes a workaround in other countries that will inevitably step up to the plate (like various other Asian, Middle Eastern or African nations taking over Chinese manufacturing to remove China's monopoly) the price will be high.
      Hey, at least it's not like with copper, where they all rallied to make the cost obscenely high on purpose... making everyone with a neuron, wonder exactly what did we learn, if anything, from the last time we had this happen(read up on Yasuo Hamanaka). There's enough copper around to construct an entire city of copper, and i'm not even talking about copper in use, or copper in junk yards. Copper in ingot, being kept off the market like diamonds.
      Don't you just love this world we live in? 🤣
