After some serious digging, I got some info on Nene's care and diet. Please bear with me, this comment is a bit lengthy. Nene is being fed a special diet with foods high in water like 🍌 bananas 75% water, 🥒 cucumber 96% water, 🍅 tomatoes 95% water, which is causing her watery 💩 stools that we are seeing on the enclosure floor. 😥 Whew! I was worried about the diarrhea. Apparently she was showing signs of dehydration from not eating for a period of 2-3 days, so the wonderful zoo staff is trying to hydrate her. Thank 🙏 goodness for the zoo staff and vet team. 9:28 She does look a bit better today 👏. During these feedings Nene IS separated from the group for a few hours to be fed, and checked by the vet on staff to monitor her health condition. Afterwards she then joins the group, and is why we don't see Nene eating with the group. It was said that the keepers try and keep Annie and Nene separated. I was worried that Nene should be separated, but Shabani was showing signs of anxiety when he cannot see Nene, and further Nene chooses to come and join the group when she is ready 😁. Our Nene has a lot of feistiness in her, even when she is weak, not feeling well, and vulnerable. Now after seeing this video, I am no longer too worried about her being with the group, as Shabani is now very aware of his naughty children (mainly Annie) and has amped up his silverback duties 2:25, and is not tolerating any naughtiness from Annie 1:53 or 2:43, 2:55, 3:20 Kiyomasa towards Nene. So Ai was raised by her mom and another female gorilla who has since passed away. They are extremely close and some speculate that when Ai gave birth to Annie part of the reason she quasi rejected her is her mother's dominance because Nene appeared quite jealous of Annie. Nene also had a baby at that time. But, Ai would not have seen any baby before this and many gorillas like many of us often need to learn how to parent by seeing, not just instinct. Gorilla family's are structured - in the wild and in captivity so it is inherent - by one silverback and a 'harem' of wives and their offspring. So it is normal for Ai and her mother to have the same silverback/husband. Oh! Adding - Nene was born in the wild so she experience a lot of trauma - in those days infants were stolen and their families often killed during the process. Zoos also were not really aware as they are now how to take care of these little babies unique to who they are as gorillas so older gorillas Nene is 52 experienced that as well.

ニシゴリラの体調管理のため、9月10日(火)からしばらくの間、観覧を中止します。
なお、屋内観覧通路を閉鎖いたしますので、チンパンジーについても運動場での観覧のみとなります。

After some serious digging, I got some info on Nene's care and diet. Please bear with me, this comment is a bit lengthy. Nene is being fed a special diet with foods high in water like 🍌 bananas 75% water, 🥒 cucumber 96% water, 🍅 tomatoes 95% water, which is causing her watery 💩 stools that we are seeing on the enclosure floor. 😥 Whew! I was worried about the diarrhea. Apparently she was showing signs of dehydration from not eating for a period of 2-3 days, so the wonderful zoo staff is trying to hydrate her. Thank 🙏 goodness for the zoo staff and vet team. 9:28 She does look a bit better today 👏. During these feedings Nene IS separated from the group for a few hours to be fed, and checked by the vet on staff to monitor her health condition. Afterwards she then joins the group, and is why we don't see Nene eating with the group. It was said that the keepers try and keep Annie and Nene separated. I was worried that Nene should be separated, but Shabani was showing signs of anxiety when he cannot see Nene, and further Nene chooses to come and join the group when she is ready 😁. Our Nene has a lot of feistiness in her, even when she is weak, not feeling well, and vulnerable. Now after seeing this video, I am no longer too worried about her being with the group, as Shabani is now very aware of his naughty children (mainly Annie) and has amped up his silverback duties 2:25, and is not tolerating any naughtiness from Annie 1:53 or 2:43, 2:55, 3:20 Kiyomasa towards Nene. I went to the website to see if there was any statements made regarding Nene's health condition. I saw none, and guess I don't expect the zoo to make a statement for now. 😆 What I did find out is that quite a few fans flooded the zoo with 📞 phone calls and complained that Nene should be separated from naughty Annie and Kiyomasa for now, but 4:21 I have full confidence in Shabani. He's got Nene's back, as Nene stays ☝️ up high to avoid the wayward children. 7:01 🤔 There's still a big question ❓ mark as to what happened to Nene's eye. My questions are her eye, wound on her left arm and hand. 😟 What the heck happened❓ My main concern currently is that Nene is at a high risk for falling. I hope she continues to be closely monitored by zoo staff when she climbs high up bless her 💝 heart. In another video, I did see the staff in the viewing area watching Nene. Thanks Mr. Gori once again for the wonderful footage, and hard work you've put in! We ❤❤❤❤ love the Shabani's, and wish Nene a speedy recovery.

So Ai was raised by her mom and another female gorilla who has since passed away. They are extremely close and some speculate that when Ai gave birth to Annie part of the reason she quasi rejected her is her mother's dominance because Nene appeared quite jealous of Annie. Nene also had a baby at that time. But, Ai would not have seen any baby before this and many gorillas like many of us often need to learn how to parent by seeing, not just instinct. Gorilla family's are structured - in the wild and in captivity so it is inherent - by one silverback and a 'harem' of wives and their offspring. So it is normal for Ai and her mother to have the same silverback/husband. Oh! Adding - Nene was born in the wild so she experience a lot of trauma - in those days infants were stolen and their families often killed during the process. Zoos also were not really aware as they are now how to take care of these little babies unique to who they are as gorillas so older gorillas Nene is 52 experienced that as well.
