ADVANCED DEMODASH TECHNIQUE: You may see that top runners like TGH don't cancel the downward dash with a left or right directional input. The reason for this is that FOR SIDEWAYS DEMODASHES ONLY you actually don't need to change the downward input, you just have to let go of the downward input and face the right way. Without any directional input, Madeline dashes where she is facing so if you press down and immediately release down (within the 4 frame window) you will demodash in the direction she's facing. Happy Demodashing and I hope this helps! It also makes demodashing easily possible on a joystick because you can flick the joystick down really quickly.
Great tutorial, flarebear! Very clear explanation, finally got me into trying demodash and other speedrunning techniques that I initially thought were impossible to do. Also loved your GDQ run of Farewell. Nice work! :D
@@mojmov6128 That's subjective. Some people can do demodashes as easily as they jump. Besides, I meant "the BLJs of the Celeste speedrun" more as a comparison of their utility, not their difficulty.
@@rd_ctrlr5311 demos are easy, but they also save like 15 second throughout the entirety of any% in one specific spot, im no sm64 speedrunner, but i think the BLJs save a bit more than that
After watching this, I have attempted it about 100 times and I have been successful about 6 times. And on 2 different occasions I've gotten it twice in a row.
That actually a lot easier, I can explain, you’re actually not jumping on the spike as you’re jumping on the ground right next to the smoke that’s like a couple pixels wide or you’re grabbing onto the wall that has the spike on it, The easiest one you can do is one forsaken city, where is that one where you have to the dash over some spikes and you get a crystal then you Dash again, there’s a little bit of space there if you get into an exact Point on the wall and then jump towards the spikes you grab onto the wall and then if you jump from there then it looks like you jumped on the spikes, spike jump
Great video! I think it could also be called a Hadoken Dash, because the required inputs looks a lot like how you do a hadoken in Street Fighter, just with a much more strict timing.
SOMEHOW I did it differently, i jumped from that higher area and demodashed through the dust bunnies on a higher part on my first try. I don't know how I did this as i have never seen a video, or anything, to learn this, and then I couldn't repeat it...
did they patch this? i was trying to do it on xbox and the wall was missing the same pixel pattern, i tried matching her hair up to the tip of the wall instead, but it still would not work. i was getting it 2/20 on pc, but couldn't even get it 1/100 attempts on the xbox.
I was struggling so much to do this so i looked up a tutorial and started spamming the controls a bit. while i wasn't looking I went through.... it is my second playthrough so i do know a bit what I'm doing.
This dude can not only execute it thrice in a row but can also produce specific different types of failures on demand
I suspect a few days of training on that one spot.
@marcohoffi i cant do it after an hour. :( i suck
@@satibel i did it in like 10 tries
It’s much easier than I thought it would be
@Jon Boston imagine using an alt account to promote a sketchy app
I love how the time is over 150 hours.

probably a main save for practicing stuff and getting the game 100% like all b sides and all c sides and stuff

i'm new to the game, are there any top runners who use control stick?
This is possibly the most helpful comment I have ever seen on a video. Thank you
@@kivov TGH uses it for feather, but that's about it I believe. It actually gives advantage with feathers, but it's less precise in normal form
So that makes it possible on Keyboard? Is it possible to demondash in other directions besides just left and right on Keyboard?
@@siLveRscOpe13x it should be as easy if not easier to manually demo on keyboard. Practice makes perfect
thanks for demodash tutorial :)
One death he didn't mention: If you die on the dust bunny at 6:21, it is because you didn't go high enough before dashing. Thanks for the great guide!
Thanks dude. After just five minutes of the tutorial I was occasionally getting it 2 times in a row!

Demodashes, the BLJs of the Celeste speedrunning community
Bro, BLJS are easy. This is hard as fuck

I just got this for the first time thanks to this video! Now to practice and get consistent.
awesome guide, starting to learn the speedrun and this guide holds up in 2024!
thanks for this, clarified a few things

Way easier than I thought! Thanks!
Thanks, I hate it.
I am definitely not gitting that gud

this trick is free, thank you for teaching me :)
Please make a tutorial about spike jumping.

Great tutorial! Thanks
Thanks, I was trying to figure out how to do this (still really hard though!)
Omg I actually did it. Tysm!
Lol I was blindly doing it in my speedrun. I still get it after 5 tries but this is way easier!
Omg I got it in under 10 minutes!!!
Great video!

thank you for this. I do have a question though, Would you suggest going for this in Golden Strawberry runs at all?
ye I needed this
nutty
If you need help telling if your doing a demo dash, do a super from the air, and it will have hyper speed.
Wow 153 hours, i like It
this is so cool and useful thanks, also how are you freezing the frame that you're on without the menu in the way?
hold the journal button (the button u use to open up the journal on the chapter selection screen)
thanks nice tutorial
you can now do the dash with one input
Thank u, helpfull tutorial
thank u

For everyone watching this tutorial in 2024. There is now a option "crouch dash" so you don't have to do the frame perfect trick
i done this in a golden run of 3a for fun and got it (ive already got all the goldens but im redoing them to see how long it takes)
Thanks so much

They infact did not. They even now put a demo button config (crouch dash in the controls config)

Is this possible on switch version ?
I confirm that it is possible on actual switch version
Its is, I've done it on switch a few times
yes, i just did it
Hadouken!
Shoyuken!!
thanks
The pixle isn't in the switch version
