The Hardest Celeste Screens | 2k-3 Explained.

- Ive seen a lot of people not knowing or realizing how hard this screen actually is and have also seen some miss information spread about it. I also was getting kinda tired of trying to explain it myself so I came up with the idea to make a video about it, breaking down the entire screen and explaining it in detail. I hope this might give people a better idea of why this screen is so difficult and that you can maybe share this with people that are curious about it.
Ive been meaning to make this video for quite some time, ever since I started playing the screen myself nearly 6 months ago now, but never really got around to it. I put a lot of effort into it though (this was a lot more work than I ever imagined it could be) and think it turned out pretty well! So let me know what you thought and if you maybe wanna see more of this type of content in the future and on what topics. Please consider subscribing to my channel as well, maybe leaving a like would be cool. I also stream modded Celeste content over on my twitch pretty much everyday so you can check that out if that sounds interesting to you, I would greatly appreciate it!
Also shout outs to everyone that showed interest in me making this video and helped motivate me to actually finish it, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you all ♥

I have finally expanded this video into a series of its own where I cover really hard Celeste screens and break them down to explain how they work and what makes them so difficult, so if you liked this make sure to watch my other videos like this one aswell!

man, releasing ur music with creative commons is weird. i'll just find a new channel and within a month im being jumpscared by my own tunes

Oh hey!
Wait wtf
can someone tell me who this is? i dont wanna miss out
Sometimes I wish I was on the level of play where saying "This is a lot easier because you have 3 frames" is normal
I'm in that level for another game and I recommend not to
@@TheMisterDarknightRuin 20 in The End Is Nigh?
@DonutMaster56 no geometry dash. That game becomes so much harder than it looks it's funny. Usually, timings that are 3 frames are considered almost easy on my level and I'm nowhere near the best.
@@TheMisterDarknight thats like, 1/100th of a second for 3 frames? are you 360 or 244 fps (or smth else)?
@@Introlabeit would be at 60fps (so 1/20th of a second), usually frame windows in that game are assumed to be 60fps unless they say. Also, Fun fact: The 2nd hardest (beaten) level starts with a 180fps frame perfect, and the hardest has somewhere like 140+ frame perfects (at 60fps).
Stuff like this is fun to watch, but Celeste is a game with a super high skill ceiling. Having multiple rng subpixel obstacles to overcome seems completely against the spirit of Celeste to me and would just be torture to attempt. I am glad there are those who feel otherwise and put in the dedication to doing these insane challenges and explaining and showcasing them. Cause it is still highly entertaining. Thanks for the video!
well im excited to let you know then im working on kind of a sequal video to what is the new hardest screen which is the completely opposite of this and actually pushes celeste difficulty in a really good way
@@ParrotDash I'm excited!
yeah lmao I’m glad this is a mod and not in the actual game

Amazing content. The wrinting was extremely clean and made for an entertaining narrative while still explaining extremely well how everything works. You have great potential, honestly impressed
aa, thank you so much that really means alot
Maybe it's because I was watching on my phone (as opposed to my TV, where I normally watch RUclips), but I could barely understand what he was saying. Didn't even get past the 2 minute mark.

but parrot all you have to do is a half a frame input for the subpixel gaps :Clueless:
great video thank you for being the 2nd good explanation on Subpixels ever
Parrot: thats... That's not how it works...
Them: just increase your fps 2x. I.e. if you need 7.5 frames normally, do 15 frames with double the frames per second. Duh

I remember years ago in the Celeste discord joking about the idea of a d1d7 being created. I use the search function and it turns out I am the second person in the entire server to have a message including 'd1d7', which makes me proud lol. it's crazy to see how dedicated and insanely skilled the Celeste community is. i would have honestly never expected it up until two days ago I thought it ended at B-Sides😂.
I'm loving Celeste custom maps and content rn and this is definitely one of the best videos I've seen! keep tze awesome work up❤

it's funny how no matter how small a celeste youtuber is, they always make a great video. I always feel that they passed through the gameplay hell so editing a video is nothing grand
Very good video, explanations are clear and concise and editing is on point. Didn't realise how much luck is required for that ending, mad respect to anyone who has the patience for that. Hope you consider doing more scripted videos in the future!
There is definitely another cool one planned for in the near future but dunno how common of a thing this will be since this was wayyyy more work than I ever expected it would be and its hard to find time for such huge video projects. Though all of the super positive feedback from everyone definitely has me tempted, thanks a lot
So it's a reverse of a buff and movement limiter of one of the hardest maps ever made by the most imfamous hard map maker.
...The Celeste community's masochism never ceases to amaze me.
yup, its a minimal changes reverse version of a super buffed limited movement version of a really hard version of the summit called 7d… its quite something lmao

I really love how the entire explanation was just to give extra gravitas to your very hype pop-off at the end, keep it up!
Wow! I havn't played any celeste mods, but this video was written so well and you explained everything amazingly! I'm surprised that this video hasn't gotten bigger than it is.
I love the summoning salt vibes
Thanks for the 2k3 video, wanted that for a while!
So now we can link this instead of explaining it whenever it comes up, thank you parrot Frogeline
Me watching this just to hear your 2k3 success reaction again
extremely well made video, i didn't know how precise it really was until now. great job!
also 7f 11f
thank you for finally giving a good subpixel explanation never really got it
That was a beautiful explanation of subpixels and how it affects your movements and "pixel perfect" gaps. Good job!
When he beat it I at first thought his reaction was crazy, but then I realized I dont play most of my steam games for longer than he took to beat the screen
this screen is hard for all the reasons i dont want it to be lmao
good job beating it, youve made me actually wanna break my controller doing some relatively forgiving wavedash hell level
Actually explained alot and helped me understand Celeste's fundamentals too thanks for the awesome video :)
This video is awesome! I love seeing the game broken down and explained at the technical level.
woah i watched this thinking u were some massive youtuber but then i checked and saw this had under 1k views. mad respect and you just earned yourself a new subscriber
this is a very detailed and engaging video!
really kept me invested in something i'm never gonna accomplish LMAO but it also makes me appreciate the effort of how people were able to solve and perform it
1 very smol criticism i just have is that the music bg is a little too loud imo
3 months later, this was a suuper fun video to watch. Keep up the great work :D
It's an absolute banger of a vid. Congrats ! And thanks for taking the time of making it, I imagine it was not easy !
This took quite a long time yeah, there went alot more into this video than I thought it would take at first. Thanks alot
This was a super interesting and entertaining video, would love to see more of this style :)
Even if I followed your streams while doing that, I still learned things.
This video is really nice to watch, nice edit, nice explanations. Well done
yay
someone explained that autoscroller blocks give you more precision control
and that most of those are supposed to be buffered in the original map anyway
and basically if you do it "right" every time then you still have a small chance of actually making it through
And you're telling me people play this? Kinda weird imo but alright,,,
Really good video and editing keep up the good work parrot
abuffzucchini, do you want to make a game jam game collab one day (maybe gmtk). I really really enjoy your level design skills. Would be nice to team up with one of the most talented people. I use TIC80, similar to pico 8

Absolutely loved the video. As someone who knows next to nothing about this kind of stuff you explained it perfectly and I easily understood the whole thing. I would really enjoy seeing more explanation videos like this, keep up the great work!
its been a couple months since I first watched this video and it still randomly appears in my head. Great explanation of what is, in my opinion, one of the coolest things in Celeste.
I just recently found your channel while looking at the endgame collab and wow- so much quality content! Great video :)
This is insane, your dedication to this is unreal. fantastic video
ah, you are the person that is always in my twitch recomended and is always playing celeste
Sounds plausible
This is by far one of your best video's yet!! I love the feel of it!!! ❤️
I'm a newbie who's long been interested in the high level side of celeste, but has only recently started actually doing so (currently working on the spring 2020 advanced heartside), and I have to say this video was both extremely cleanly put-together and very informing. Thanks for making, you've got a new sub!
Where are you now??
TLDR: tons of extremely precise pixel perfect tricks is very hard, subpixels are basically random and super hard
really good video format :)
video really makes you respect the players with the perseverance to deal with all of this difficulty
gg, the amount of precision nd dedication required for 2k3 is truly inspiring
Excellent explanation.
Looking forward to more of this type of video.
this came in my reccomended, im glad i clicked the video! awesome content, subscribed!
oh my gosh finally an explanation of sub pixels.
Sounds like something That Friend would come up with
"Bro if you jumped off a cliff into a pit of spikes, you'd die."
"Nuh uh, there's a chance you'd avoid em and live! So you can't say it's guaranteed!"
Poor Madeline
Great video. May the algorithm bless you, bird person
absolute banger vid, and one of two vids to finally get me to play Celeste. I understand it being a massive undertaking but it would be super interesting to see something similar for venus from lxvi or even some of the harder atone screens, even if its just a swear filled discord log or 3 am Google doc
i have actually started working on a similar video for lxvi but i cant promise that releasing anytime soon
This video was sick! So good to finally have an explanation on this screen, as I never really understood what all went into it.
In terms of criticism, your writing is very solid and the music choice is great, but I think your narration is a bit too fast sometimes (I think? idk for sure) , and the music is a little bit too loud.
Still an amazing video! I really hope to see more from you like this in addition to your stream highlights. I love all of it
yeah im aware I have a bit of an issue with accidentally talking really fast, im gonna try to think about it for future projects. Thanks alot !
Wrapping up an extremely difficult trick with SummoningSalt music in the background. . .
I wouldn't have it any other way. Lovely vid 👍
My volume was on, *and I was at a restaurant…*
IM SORRY, I though I lowered the volume for the ending clip enough lmao
The fact that this is humanly possible is unreal
Man im only just getting into celeste properly (I've just beaten farewell for the first time and got the moon berry recently) and this shit just is NUTS to me. Yet even though i have no clue youve explained it so perfectly and now i understand even if im never going to try this screen let alone the level for myself
I need more videos of celeste screens broken down like this
Bro your pop off was so wholesome. Great watch.
Good stuff! Congrats on clearing that screen 🔥
the ending is very cute, congratulations! very good video as well!! :D
Great video! Never knew how intricate this room actually was.
"Now we approach the first really hard part of the screen." Uh...

Never imagined it was this bad lmao
Great video! Can see where you got some of your inspiration from.
parrot dash what is a "wavedash"? you use this term at the start of the video however I do not know what it means.
when you press the jump button hard
It’s when you do a hyper dash midair to regain your dash during the hyper.
A hyper is where you’re on the ground and use a downright/downleft dash and then jump to gain hyper speed in the air. A wave dash is where you start from the air and input a hyper to gain hyper speed and regain your dash.
hi ru
ru what is a "dash"? you use this term at the start of the comment however I do not know what it means.
@@MagicianStevey you can get your dash back in a hyper normally as well anyway
me watching this video knowing i'm never going to be able to get close to something like this, but still being entertained
Awesome stuff! I was able to follow along with everything you said without rewinding too much, so that's a good sign. Furthermore, your editing was entertaining - especially the half frame joke was set up well.
I do wonder if people who are somewhat new to Celeste (i.e. those who don't already know a couple of advanced strats) would understand everything on first watch, but maybe that's not your target audience, I dunno.
Also, there was no volume warning at 10:18 😰
thanks! yeah looking back now this video for sure isnt perfect and there would be some stuff id change (including volume warning oops sorry) but yeah original intended target audience was people that knew about the room but not why it was so difficult, i still tried to make it as understandable as possible for people that just played the main game but that was quite difficult for something like this, im glad you enjoyed it though and thanks for the feedback !
I watched this, and had no idea what you were talking about 😂
Can’t even count the amount of frame perfect inputs, also a 0.15 pixel perfect trick is crazy
Why does this remind me of Pannenkoek2012?
Jokes aside, amazing video! Looking forward to more pixology.
definitely was mildly inspired by him so can make sense tbh, the wavedash.ppt for subpixel explanation was also originally the sm64 file select theme
me watching this video when i haven’t even beaten the game yet: mhm yes i could do this
Great video, I love that it's really fast
98 hours on a single level, holy crap. The longest I've ever spent on a level (so far) was just 2 hours, I can't even begin to imagine what almost 50 times that amount would feel like
this is crazy good for how niche the subject is
Cool explanation parrot man
Recently started playing celeste, and I want to play custom levels after the base game. This video has me scared and somewhat excited for custom levels with a good challenge
dont worry we also have many more custom levels that are a lot easier and or better than this lol
i couldve done it in 6 frames (im joking this is the coolest celeste video i've ever seen its shocking this type of difficulty even exists and nice achievement)
man beautiful video, great editing flow and everything. ON THING please take more time while you record your voice-over, there is no rush, there is no one that is going to kill you in 5 second. Take your time, don’t stumble on your word, try to say clear sentences. I’m telling you this because you got potential, it’s just really hard to follow the video, next before doing the video try to send the voice over to someone for review, because you can understand everything obviously, but a new viewer isn’t as custom as you with your accent. Even worse (like in my case) the viewer may not be from an english speaking county. Everything else was great and really interesting, overall good video.
Telling you this because I speak really fast too, and a lot of time people tell me to slow down
Good advice. I could barely understand what he was saying, and I'm usually pretty good at deciphering unfamiliar accents or unique speech patterns. I also like to think I have good hearing, and this isn't at all something I experience often on RUclips. No offense to OP but I think his audio in general needs a bit of work.
This is absurd. Great explanation!
Woah, this video got picked up by the algorithm lol, youtube recommended this to me. Great vid!
If I may give some advice, the music was often quite loud over your voice, and at times it was hard to hear what you were saying. Maybe for future vids, could you turn the music down a bit?
Just tried to watch the vid but had to stop around the 2 minute mark because I just couldn't hear/understand what he was saying. Completely agree with your comment & advice.
I’ve wanted to get into harder Celeste but this makes me want to stay back to vanilla for a while
there is also really good hard celeste maps lol this is like the worst example
@@ParrotDash yeah but definitely not ready for those until after c sides and farewell
this video changed my life
Wow I am a huge fan of this kind of video

things like this make me glad i'm not actually that great at celeste XD fun video!!
I meann you can be great at celeste witthout playing d1d7 no ones gonna force you, ty
SummoningParrot real?
Funny enough im stuck on the normal version on this room in the original 7D
normal version is hard honestly, back when i first played 7d it was one of the rooms i most struggled with
And he still beat the screen faster than I 100%'ed the game
This is a really good video, but no headphone warning at the end wasn't great.
im sorryyy, I though I lowered the volume on the clip at the end more than I did lol
after having suffered so much, he just wanted share some of that suffering with his viewers ;-)
I love this!!!! Thanks parrot
Then some speedrunner flickers through in 0.004 seconds and the viewers don't even see the room, "guess that room must have been easy or something?"
200k views! congrats
