it all helps my friends....i'm going broke trying to get the boys moved into a house that they are actually gonna want to invite their friends to when they are all old enough to drive and smoke weed out of a toilet paper roll with a hole punched in it...
now i need that grill that all the brats are gonna get cooked on...and the cut up vegetables that get grilled with a little olive oil and salt inside the tin foil....you know what i'm sayin'...

Hey Tom, gods honest truth, I no sooner put my phone down right after watching this episode and my wife asked me to clean the solarium window in the kitchen. Inspired by your closing words, I got the ladder, glass cleaner and rags, without having to be asked twice mind you and risked life and limb to do as she asked. As I was finishing up she said “you really do love me”…❤️
…I can now spend the afternoon plunking on the ol guitar guilt free.

Morning from the UK .. I hope everyone is in fine fettle .
On the “pompous” reviewing of another guitarists playing subject .
To my mind that is what a mentor/teacher/educator does and to have someone of Toms level offer this is a real gift .
I have taught beginner to intermediate guitar for many years and the lessons have funded my life. I am nowhere near a top guitarist and know my place in the large scale of things but I have started many players on their journey and feel proud in doing so ..
To have Tom offer this on top of his normal Home skoolin content is a wonderful thing and I know we all appreciate his efforts .
Listen, watch and learn . We will all be better for it .
    Craig x

    Hey Buko.
Rockin’ Reggae with Stank! Very tasty indeed, my man.
To those who may choose to join the Home Skoolin’ community, perhaps this may help, perhaps not:
    The Rules of Skool.
    1) Do not tell knuckleheads about Home Skoolin.
    2) DO NOT TELL KNUCKLEADS ABOUT HOME SKOOLIN!
    3) If someone says "Stop" or goes limp, taps out, keep playing.
    4) Play only what’s right, leave out what ain’t.
    5) Where you end a note is just as important as where you start it.
    6) Vibrato is a privilege, not a right, so please don’t abuse it.
    7) Be thoughtful about the wang bar. Use it with love and emotion. Over use will grown hair on your palms.
    9) There is no rule 8.
    10) Episodes will go on as long or as short as they have to.
    11) Your volume knob is your friend.
    12) You know you have a true friend when you find yourselves finishing each other’s sammiches.
    14) This ain’t a complete list of the rules.
    15) If this is your first time Home Skoolin’, just act like you’ve been here before.
Hope this proves useful or entertaining and doesn’t result in me getting hit in the head with a tomato.
    Your pal in Boston, Darin

Sometimes the opposite of what you think is the most important. As a kid my cousin Graham Todd (Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton John) mentored me about my piano playing. The biggest thing he taught me was to practice how your fingers lifted off the note as much as on - and always with a metronome. This rings true with the practicing your time in the space between notes.

I’m 72 and guilty of over playing all these years. I recently had a fall going my photography and tore my rotator cuff all to pieces. Major surgery. I’m now in physical therapy and relearning how to play guitar. My right arm and hand has lost some coordination. No more alternate picking ever again. And most important is the phrasing and space in between the notes. Learn to BREATHE. You don’t have to play everything you know and can do all the time. And learn chords. That’s what I learn on this channel. More chords and voicings. Tom you always do a great job on chord voiceings. And you are a great composer/guitarist. That’s what I’m trying to do. Write good string based original music. My hat off to you. In Stereo is a journey. Takes you places. Damn good. Peace to you and Dreg on. 🎸🎸

Not saying he may not have nailed it, but it's a fairly simple ordeal to tempo map and adjust pitch to pre recorded music to fit with a
live performance. Infact those vehemently opposed to hard grid quantization will generally do a similar approach.
I'm sure that's what was done to Marshall's metal madness, a couple videos back. Infact I mapped out Marshall's tempo and did a similar video.

Maybe it was a guest on Mr. Beato who said a guitar player needs to take a breath like a sax or trumpet 🎺 player does when doing a solo. Pause sometimes. I expected my neighbor's spaghetti to be spicy, she was an old Italian and made it sweet. If I expected it to be sweet I probably would have liked it more. The next time I had it there I expected it to be sweet and I did like it more. I think sometimes we think what comes out of a Stratocaster should be a certain thing, if its not then???? Maybe it takes time to acquire a taste for the unexpected.

Don't be an ass hole, don't be an ass hole and don't be an ass hole! That was straight from Willie Nelson himself. Good rules for most any situation. 8) Love you guys, peace --gary

Anthony, you made an investment in yourself and showed courage by stepping out for all of us to see you receive feedback. And because of you stepping out, we all get to learn from it. I’m excited to see what you take from Tom’s suggestions as you will continue to get much out of your lesson for months and possibly years to come.

I too read the description. Other art forms are reviewed and given professional criticism. Take writing a novel there is a whole group od people that review and suggest improvements. Same is true for painting and the graphic arts. Could on a let us our big boy/girl pants and and not take things personally. Kudos to the player who shared his craft and music. Best lesson i got was on stage at a local jam and the house bass player walked over and said in my ear in the middle of my solo "Space is where the sexy happens" Later i found him and said thanks changed my playing from that point forward. He was helping me get better and i am grateful.

Tom genuine question that could be taken as me being condescending but I really don’t mean it that way. How do you go about picking favorites as far as fans and your comments section? I’ve noticed as with any teacher with a class that you tend to pick favorites as far as who you choose to comment back to or viewers you mention etc. Are the ones you engage with and acknowledge the most people who consistently donate or send gifts? Is that a factor? Is it based on the type of comments they leave and if you agree with them? If someone leaves a comment you don’t agree with or don’t like do you hold it against them if they leave a comment later that you do agree with or find funny etc? I know this might be weird but I’m genuinely curious. I’ve seen all your episodes and have noticed a kind of pattern but I could be wrong

i like wit honey....a person simply cannot be funny unless they are truly intelligent, you can't have one without the other, it's impossible.....
i can tell IMMEDIATELY when someone out there in comment land actually "gets it" by the words they write and the way they string them together

My main musical mentor was a guy older than me that invited me in as a youngster. He told me to “ play for people not at them”. Space was important.

As a fellow Old "guitarded" rocker like you Tom, bet you've done this 70's timing tip (or how we learned before the internet) I used to put on a record or better yet the radio. Already, knowing the Song, I would play along for a minute, then quickly crank down the radio volume to zero.
Then whilst continuing to play "along" I'd have anyone around randomly crank the volume knob back up! When you're still in the right place in the right time ,you know can trust the clock in your head, or your gut , (and sometimes lower.)
Or the real way i perfected my timing /meter (this is an unforgiving teacher) Lock yourself in a room 4-5 hrs with an old tape echoplex or memory man. Playing rhythm and lead lines on the beat, berween the beat (fake dotted 8th setting) add your own harmony parts on the repeats. Practicing with an echo is how I perfected my meter or inner clock. You learn real quick when you hear your mistake(s..s.s.s.sss500ms later, later, later..
Fellow Homeschooler's it works, works ,wor....
    On a more personal note..
I love you Tom ! Been playing 50 years! I think I'm hearing me talk to myself when I watch/listen to you. You're like a long lost twin brother I just recently figured out existed (one of our Mom's must know?)
Hey! I'll volunteer to be your assistant and go thru other home schooler's submissions. I'd even relocate to Nashville! I was just there for the eclipse. I tried to find you playing a gig that week. Nope.
You are the younger brother I look up up to! You turned out reallly good! Love to hang with you one day, both with a beer & our
(current favorite) Les Paul's in hand! Maybe I should send in my own homeschooler submission first? Or look me up on you tube so you know I'm 'as safe as milk'😇
    Love,
    Your "guitarded' older brother,
    Marc Bennett/better known as:
Jewy Hendrix (on stage & computer screens)

Looked up alcohol and arthritis, one thing it said was since alcohol is a diuretic it can lead to joint pain because of dehydration. So drink extra water to keep hydrated if your having some alcohol. Someone said that's why hangovers happen. Alcohol helps some people's arthritis and aggravates others arthritis. So you gotta figure it out for yourself.

Hey Larry, many years ago a great old guy i used to jam with told me to give equal attention to what TO PLAY as well as what NOT to play (when you lay out). He went on to say the notes you do play are equally important as those you dont. Time and space are what gives music its vital tenson.

One possibility for the online lesson/critique segment; You could demonstrate what you mean when you are giving them tips and advice. The first one was pretty straight forward. You've already talked about the trem' bar and how to keep it close and be able to play with it in "ready position." But maybe if you played the part where he rushed a bit and showed how to maintain pace/space there. Just a thought. Keep up the great work and I'll keep tuning in;-)

    Hi Tom,
I recently saw a video of you and Jed live . I really loved how your lead was following Jed’s vocal, in previous videos you explained how you listen to the singer and find the melody. I’m curious if that came to you n the moment? It seemed like Jed through a look to you like wow! Thanks for sharing the knowledge and wisdom.
