“I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well, maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2016. However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also, thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self-confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.
One thing everyone needs to know about Demi.... Her story, her struggles, her family, they are everything she pulls from in these songs. They are the things that have tried to define her from since she was a little child and she had to go through the consequences of that. Her relationship with her father wasn't great and he died before she could ever reach a point to tell him or speak to him about it properly. He had a lot of issues, many of which Demi has suffered from too, so it's almost like she hates what he became and what he did and she doesn't like the fact she seemed to follow after him despite hating everything regarding it. She is so complex and her story brings a tear to your eye when she sings about it (Father, Warrior, For the love of a Daughter, Skyscraper, Sober etc) because nothing about Demi will ever be more real in her music than her pain. She's incredible and never given the credit she deserves and to see her healthier now is the best thing ever. Great reaction.

@@rva When we say she saved our lives, we do not mean it lightly. She shared her story with us and we try our best to give each other strength to keep going. That's why when she was singing Sober live she got super emotional when fans started to scream after the line "I'm sorry for the fans i lost". Lovatics are a family and over the years she has taught us many things. We appreciate people, their talents, understand their stories and we support them through their journey's. Also, I've heard she gives great hugs so you won't be disappointed at all.

Backstory:
Yes, this song is about her biological father, who died in 2013. And yes, she wrote it, with somebody else because she needed someone to help her make sense of everything and put it into lyrics.
Her father was a drug addict and alcoholic, and also bipolar (sidenote: Demi is bipolar as well). As told in her documentary, he used to rage and yell and throw things. It took a toll on the whole family, and even though Demi was really young and her older sister tried to protect her, she witnessed it. Eventually, her mum decided to leave. According to her, he had a big heart, but couldn't stop his habits for his family.
After that he tried to get in their lives every now and then. He told them things that weren't true, like he "had cancer" or "was dying tomorrow". Around the age of 15, Demi decided to break off the contact completely.
She once said that one of the reasons she did drugs was because "it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family". She thinks she always searched for what he found in them.

This is literally one of my favorite performances by Demi.

I've never really been a big fan of Demi Lovato's music, but from the first note alone my eyes teared up and I got chills.

Maybe I'm just emotional right now but she ripped the tears right out my eyes in minute 4:31 ! That was just pain release , raw pain release! I wish her all the best and a full recovery. Her voice is sorely needed in todays music. Lord this is beautiful and painful at the same time!

The first time I heard this song I started crying... in the middle of my classroom. It was too much for my heart, and everytime I hear her singing Father live, I feel the same way you did in this video

Girl, I cried along with you! I'm so sad that Demi has to fight all of those emotions and depression that she is going through. No one deserve those things, right? But still.. we are going through every single day, moment of our life.
It is so hard to love what you are in a world that no one knows who we truly are! But you boys and girls, men and women. Don't you dare to give up! There is somebody in this life who will bring brightness on our streets too! There is someone who can show us that there are great and good people in this world. I know that living with so much comparison amongst people doesn't really help, but trust me! We can do this, we really can! As Rebecca said: "No one can take who you are!"
She is damn right. I really hope that Demi is recovering, that you will get to love and know yourself better as you grow and.. don't stop fighting!

By the way yeah in case you didn't know this is a song written about her birth father who was schizophrenic and was very abusive. He died a little while before she wrote this song that is basically saying that she forgives him and loves him despite what he did to her

I met my dad for the first time when I was 18 years old. He past away 2 weeks later in a pedestrian accident. I got taken away as a baby from my family because my parents were on drugs. This song gets me every. Single. Time. He never got a chance. Demi is a goddess.

This song was actually dedicated to her father (Mr.Patrick Lovato) who was a drug and alcohol addict and Demi experienced a lot of bad things from his own father, I can really feel her pain. I hope someday she could forgive her dad and all the pain would be gone.

I never ever fall apart or get an emotional watching anything but this literally brought me to tears because it reminded me of my relationship that I had with my father in a way Demi is so strong I love how vulnerable and heartfelt her performance was and how she stripped it down and poured her heart and soul into that whole entire performance I really felt the lyrics that was so powerful and that was so moving only Demi can make me feel so happy and sad at the Same time that was so deep

I saw the worlds “best lip sync” come up.In case anybody is wondering if she was NOT lip-synching this, For some reason the music wasn’t synced perfectly but she was definitely singing live.
My father was away my whole life with the military. After his service he was never the same. He was eventually diagnosed with manic depression and after a few years he couldn't do it any more. He committed suicide. I've never felt a song lyrically more in my entire life. I am so angry at him for not being there and leaving me but I also love him more than anything and hope that wherever he is he is no longer in pain. X

I already had a tear running down my cheek by the middle of the second line. My dad is alive, but an asshole with too much money for himself. I haven't decided if I want to keep in contact after I come back from college in the UK. I'm not about to pour my soul into a youtube comment other than to say that I love Demi sm. Joke's on my dad because he helped me not be homesick at all besides my car and food :) I sort of needed a good sob.
