Fifth post on my GS9 : I attached both a chain tensioner and a chain guide. Unfortunately the chain guide I couldn't mount the way it was designed because the chain ring has a protecter on the outside of the chain ring. I thought maybe I could remove it but sadly the protector is an integral part of the crank set up. So I compromised and turned it around and mounted it just behind the chain ring set up. It rubs a little in certain gears but the sound is barely noticeable. At some point I'll buy a new crank setup and then should be able to set it up proper. The good news is it works and I'm not having any chain drops. Took the bike out on some rough terrain, full of roots and bumps. Chain stayed put even when not pedaling. On a side note the front shock seems to have little rebound damping. Works fine taking bumps but if I try to wheelie over a log I'll hear a resounding "clunk" when I lift the wheel. Doesn't do it too much but I hate noises like that. I'll be shopping for a replacement fork If I can't fix this. Still need to figure out how to stop the rattling inside the upper part of the down tube. After I get a few more rides in I'll be taking it to a LBS to see what they can do for me. In the mean time this bike is still a hoot. So far I've not had to take it out of eco mode ( #1) when on dirt trails even when climbing. Taking another ride today on one of my favorite trails I haven't ridden in years that happens to have three hills that I was never able to ride up all the way when on a standard Mt. bike. ( Note ' the noise in the front of the bike might be a problem with how the front shock was installed or a problem with the battery connector inside the upper down tube. Likely I'll need some professional advise from the LBS once I get a chance to drop it off. ~ ~ ~ Just finished the ride on my favorite trail. I had forgotten just how many really big hills there were on this trail. The bike did very good, climbed every hill without stopping. Had to go to level 2 on the most steepest / knarly ones but other wise I stayed in level one most of the time.
I just bought one of these. Haven't yet taken it on dirt trails yet but there is a short steep snippet of dirt single track ( ~ 200 ft long.@~ 20-25° incline ) just behind the building I live at. On level 2 assist it takes me up this without any problems with just moderate pedaling. My rear shock makes no noise but it is brand new. Hope to get a ride on some real dirt trails this weekend. I weigh about 215 lbs. So far my biggest beef is not with the bike but with the display operation manual which does not give details on how to adjust the advance settings. Could really use a good RUclips tutorial on how to access all the display features. So far I know how to turn it on / off , turn the light on / off , change the assist levels ( 5 on mine ) and can operate the cruise control. I agree with the reviewer; this bike should be fine for moderate single track ( no big drops ) but I kind of figured it would be like that when I bought it. I'm in my late 60's and just wanted something that would get me back in the woods again without killing me on the hills.
A most excellent review! Thank you so much for NOT playing music while you were doing the uphill test. By doing that, it allowed me to kind of get an idea of what noises the bike makes in terms of rattle, squeaks, and creaks. In this particular case, the Paselec GS9 had a very squeaky rear shock! Good to know. *
My 4th post: Took my bike on one of my favorite single tracks of past years. Most of the time only used the #1 eco mode. Even that was too fast when in tight spots but otherwise worked well. I do have one major worry. I'm afraid that when going over small logs that the logs ( or rocks of same height ) might hit the down tube that extends almost to where the front chain ring is. I definitely do not want to damage that tube because that is where the battery is. I need more time to be able to tell what's safe to go over and what's not. In the mean time the major issue at the moment is not so much the rattle I mentioned before but the fact that the chain bounces off the front chain ring really easy if you are going over a series of fast bumps without putting tension on the pedals. In the two and half miles I rode during this test run the chain came off the chain ring at least five times. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! No way can I ride my regular single tracks with the chain popping off every couple hundred feet or so. To address this ( before my next ride on single track ) I have a chain-stay chain tensioner on order from Amazon. However I may need one for the top of the front chain ring as well. I'll wait to see how the first one does before buying a second. In the mean time I'm going to wait before addressing the rattle I mentioned before since it has no impact on the ride it's self but do plan to get that fixed within a couple weeks. I should mention that I was able to climb a short baby head strewn hill all the way to the top without stopping, something I've never been able to do on my regular mt. bike. If I can fix this chain problem ( and stop the rattle inside the battery tube I'm going to have some fun. If I can't fix the rattle myself I'm hoping the bike shop that said they would help can fix it for me.
I had the G9 for just shy of 2 and a half years. Put 4500 miles on it. It was my daily commuter to work 5 days a week 10 miles round trip. Minus vacation and rides here and there etc I live in buffalo NY. YES In the snow and salt daily! Bike was amazing no issues ever.. but it got stolen last week from target in Cheektowaga NY on Galleria drive.. black and green one with cargo rack on the back I bought separately. However one thing I told myself though when I originally when I bought it is if I buy the bike again I'm getting the full suspension and hydraulic brakes for sure. I hope karma sets in for that person that stole it. And I'm gonna order my new GS9 right now
This is my second post. Today I took my GS9 onto a few miles of single track. Switched over the flat pedals to SPD's. Sadly I had to keep using the standard seat since my old Mt. Bike seat / seatpost wouldn't work on the GS9 since the post is a different size ( I have a shim on order but won't have that for weeks ) The standard seat on the GS9 is fine if just on flat ground. However it becomes dangerous when descending on any steep hill because you really can't slide back on the seat like a narrower mountain bike seat. Otherwise the bike did fine on most of the trails I rode, even when going over parts of the trail that had some dangerous looking rocks. Going down one moderate hill I came upon a section at the bottom where there was a lot of sharp looking rocks. Finding the right line to take was a tough choice and this is where using the electric assist modes can be dangerous. . Dangerous because if you are in a higher assist mode it could cause a crash if the power kicks in at the wrong moment. This is because if you stop pedaling, the power assist continues to provide power to the rear wheel for about a second. If you're in a tight spot and trying to weave through rocks this could throw you off course. ( You can prevent this by quickly tapping a brake lever but this is not instinctive ) This almost happened to me so I know now to be a little more careful if trying to dodge obstacles. Going up hills however was as expected, a real joy. I did notice a noise coming from the front shock a couple of times. I might need to adjust the setting on the shock. I thought this was an air shock but I see no valve that lets you add air.. There is an adjustment knob on the left side of the fork so perhaps that will help. Tomorrow I may just have to take off the comfort saddle and replace it with one of my old Mt. bike seats. I have an old WTB seat that's not being used so likely I'll just swap seats. Now, last but not least....I can't stand the handlebar grips that come with the bike. Those I will have to replace ASAP if I want to use this bike on dirt trails that have technical features.
My third post on the GS9; Switched out the comfort seat to a more normal ( narrower ) bike seat. Makes a big difference when it comes to handling on downhills and tight areas. ( I can now slide WAY back on the saddle which is great! ) After about five rides on the bike I noticed a rattle coming from the front of the bike. This I found annoying and so I knew I had to get this fixed ASAP. At first I thought it was the front shock but after careful testing I discovered the noise was coming from inside the upper part of the down tube where the battery is housed. Thinking it might be the battery rattling I removed the battery. Nope, that wasn't the issue. Up inside the down tube I could see where the battery connects to the wiring. My guess is that that particular part is loose or the wiring is banging against the inside of the tube behind where the connector is. I ran the bike down to the LBS and asked if they would be willing to work on the bike. To my utter surprise the LBS said they would not work on a bike that had a throttle!! WTF!, I said. After I've bought two bikes from that particular shop ( costing a bit more than $4000 for both ) not to mention money spent over the years to have various overhauls done on many of my bikes as well as various items bought from them as well. That said I took it with a grain of salt and decided to look elsewhere. Luckily I found a shop that said they would work on it . Looking forward to seeing what they can do for me. In the mean time I plan to test the bike on trails this weekend. This time a longer ride on trails I am more familiar with. Could be I'm getting use to the rattle but at least it doesn't effect how the bike handles. If I wear ear buds and play music I can't hear the rattle so I might do that tomorrow. Last but not least I did replace the leather-like grips with a set of bolt on handlebar grips. These give much better control when on trails. Thing is the grips had to be 120mm long. Most grips are 130mm long. Luckily found a pair of 120's on Amazon and so far they are working great although I wish I could of used 130's. Oh, almost forgot, someone mentioned this bike has no water bottle mount. This is true. I took an old water bottle cage I had laying around and used some pieces of old bike tubes ( for padding ) and then bought some extra long Velcro straps ( with buckles ) to hold it to the down tube. Seems to work just fine but if the plastic buckles on the straps break I'll use zip ties next time which should be stronger. I'll re-post when I finally take it to the shop to see if they can stop the rattling.
Lol, omg that bike sounds like someone is banging it out on an old metal bed frame with springs. But I guess people will know you're there, no need for a bell!
I bought this model 3 months ago. Overall, the frame, motor, shocks, brakes, and wheels give a solid impression, but I found the following drawbacks: a) The controller wobbles loosely in the frame, causing noise on bumps. b) The display is blinding at night, even at the lowest setting. c) The controller displays Error 26 (overheating) after about 20 minutes of uphill riding - you have to wait for it to cool down. d) Replacing the battery from the bottom can be inconvenient when you can't charge it through an external socket. e) The rear shock is very stiff and seems to work sensibly only for people weighing over 120kg. f) The controller's bike configuration is very basic (only 3 available configurations: km/mile, wheel size, and speed limit) with non-removable nonsense, such as significant power around 200W even for PAS=1 - I eventually replaced it with a reliable LCD3+KT set, which has many cool features like cruise control and gradual acceleration, and, most importantly, you can configure power parameters as desired and securely mount it on the bike frame. The only issue when replacing the controller is a different PAS element connection standard - a new plug is required. g) The rear light, pedals, and bike stand are of very low quality - I've already replaced everything. h) It's difficult to install a rear mudguard due to the softtail. i) The bike is for people up to 175 cm tall, or you have to ride with bent legs.
I got mine a few months ago to help me ride up to the top of the mountains around los angeles to deploy off-grid iot miners so not really any need for a built up bike, just one that can handle off road trails. On my first trip out the ecu died 2 miles into the ride with error 9. I contacted the guy who sold it and gave me Louis email at Paselec to get a new ecu, which came a few weeks later Fedx from China with no instructions but i figured out how to swap them out. Both of them are familiar with he ecu problem so I guess it happens often. The ecu was printed as last years model with a few different wire that I had to get explained to me what went where from Louis. Now instead of it going 28, it only hits 20 and takes for ever to get up to that speed.. I will be changing the front Chainring to a 32t so I can climb his easier since once my ecu I couldn't even use it to ride up a little hill.
so can i eliminate that horrid squeaking by replacing that rear suspension? I also noticed you hadn't mentioned much about the squeak or that it was that loud but in the video it sounds extremely loud. So I guess I am asking if it was really that loud in person or just because the audio picked it up so well?
I have a Paselec GS9 plus 750w motor 48v 14.5 amp battery 9 speed Shimano running gear and a throttle. Put it in pas 5 and use a pas and your Shimano running gear to make it easier on you , that's why you're riding a mountain bike/city cruiser anyway, am I right or just too far south. I'm from Georgia Smokey Mountain county and I live for the hilly dirt 👣 track roads. The 750w motor and pas 5 is what I live for. Right now I'm in Las Vegas Nevada and have never hit a hilly smooth dirt track hill that a pas 5 and Shimano gears with a little throttle wouldn't handle.
I recently got this bike I have to say I'm impressed for the price I paid about 1100 £ I use it for commuting to work and just general getting around the motor does the job on the hills you do have to turn the pedals a little bit but it does get you up them on the flat the speed is much better though I have hit 30+ miles an hour with pedalling and pedal assist and it's a very zippy bike it gets me from a to b pretty quick I made my purchase based off of this video and a few others so cheers for the video it did convince me to buy it im just trying to figure out all the settings like top speed etc.How do you increase top speed with the throttle?? Any info would be much appreciated
Hello. On the Paselec gs9 that you tested can you please tell me if on the non chain side between the crank and the bottom bracket if there is a cover there to prevent dirt or if it is a sensor for the pas? Mine has fallen off and I’m worried I’m missing a sensor for the PAS.
Two questions. 1) Does the rear shock have a lockout? 2) Can the battery be charged in the bike, or does it have to be removed to charge? Thanks in advance!
Did you try WD40 or something for that squeaking? Not sure what you mean by throttle "tied in" to the PAS. Did you change the settings to make the throttle-only speed limit 20mph? If you did not make this change, would the bike do better in the hill test? Wish you standardized tests by having same rider weight, perhaps having lighter riders wear a weighted backpack. Thanks.
bought one in May of 2022 buyer beware to major problems with this ebike first one the controller isn't mounted inside of the frame so it just raddles as you ride so after awhile it will fail you that means you just have a very heavy bike the second problem is the customer service will just play their games and give you a run around that's if you can get a hold of them what this means in my case is they won't honor the warranty so I spent 1,500 for one month of fun now I have a 70 pound bicycle !
yes, the ecu is the rattling noise, it just sits above the battery, I know because first time out my died 2 miles into my ride and then they will send you another but it will be last years model and your bike will only hit 20mph after you swap it out. Did you try contacting Louis?
Kingsly I think go to your settings number 18 you have a choice between 50 to 150 you put it on 150 48 miles per hour beware battery killer !@@keenefish
Anyones bike working but not accepting a charge? Bought a new charger the battery still has a charge an works but will not charge both chargers plug in and stay green but battery isnt chargeing at all
I've had nothing but problems with mine since purchased. Changes forks stem bearings, now the crank bb needs replaced . Chain snapped ,wripped the wiring harness an now more than likely needs a new hub motor smh
@@Collector10114 everything seems to be working now and that good because they are not accepting any 3rd party warranty's unless purchased from the company. But they squared everything up for me an it's working great as of right now and is a blast forsure. What display is on your unit. The linsu... I think that's what it is?
The assist engagement is very slow, slower than any cadence-sensor hub drive I've ever tried. Assist can take several revolutions to kick in and continues for about two seconds after you stop pedalling. This means the GS9 requires the rider to pay attention to power a bit more than comparable ebikes. For example, while navigating obstacles the rider can't count on the motor to supply power when he hits the pedals; the correct action is instead to hit the throttle. Or vice-versa if power is unwanted the rider cannot simply stop pedalling; the brake must be touched to kill power immediately. Me I don't mind the power management, but I could see someone with poor attention goofing up and ramming something, or not making it over something because they were waiting for power that came too late. This is probably a reason why torque sensors are popular, but I still prefer cadence sensors on hub drives. Also as a bonus to the power lag there's increased range as the rider has to spend energy to get the bike moving before the motor assists.

The sound of this bike was making me laugh so hard. Non stop squeaking.
Lol same! Never heard another ebike doing this kind of sound!
How can we fix the "info 3" indication on the monitor? The pedal assist is not working at all. Please advice. Thank you
Hello. On the Paselec gs9 that you tested can you please tell me if on the non chain side between the crank and the bottom bracket if there is a cover there to prevent dirt or if it is a sensor for the pas? Mine has fallen off and I’m worried I’m missing a sensor for the PAS.
Is this the gray color?
Two questions. 1) Does the rear shock have a lockout? 2) Can the battery be charged in the bike, or does it have to be removed to charge? Thanks in advance!
No and No
You can remove the battery, don't think the rear shock is adjustable
You are able to charge through the frame of the bike. No need for battery removal.
Czy bateria jest wyjmowana ?
Did you try WD40 or something for that squeaking? Not sure what you mean by throttle "tied in" to the PAS. Did you change the settings to make the throttle-only speed limit 20mph? If you did not make this change, would the bike do better in the hill test? Wish you standardized tests by having same rider weight, perhaps having lighter riders wear a weighted backpack. Thanks.
What stands out? That horrible squeak I assume coming from the suspension. Should of mentioned that lol
What is the frame size of this bike?
I FINALLY GOT MINE TO GO 17.0 MPH. IT GOES THE SAME SPEED IN ALL 5 SETTINGS USUALLYMAXING OUT AT 16.9. HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE CRUISING IN THE 20'S?
It doesn't sound as if yours is running correctly.
@@ElectricBikeReport that's all full charge and only has 100 miles on it
bought one in May of 2022 buyer beware to major problems with this ebike first one the controller isn't mounted inside of the frame so it just raddles as you ride so after awhile it will fail you that means you just have a very heavy bike the second problem is the customer service will just play their games and give you a run around that's if you can get a hold of them what this means in my case is they won't honor the warranty so I spent 1,500 for one month of fun now I have a 70 pound bicycle !
yes, the ecu is the rattling noise, it just sits above the battery, I know because first time out my died 2 miles into my ride and then they will send you another but it will be last years model and your bike will only hit 20mph after you swap it out. Did you try contacting Louis?
Kingsly I think go to your settings number 18 you have a choice between 50 to 150 you put it on 150 48 miles per hour beware battery killer !@@keenefish
@@freecitizen5917 did you get yours fixed? The ecu on amazon is only $30 or one close to it.
@@keenefish I'm supposed to receive a bran new bike today by fedx .
Would you recommend the bike or no?
9:40 What is this noise?
I was about to buy this but that squeaking would drive nuts
Rear suspension should be in the seat post, other than that very solid! Great test!
Seat post suspension is underrated in our opinion. Thanks for watching!
Yeesh! Sorry to hear it!
Where did you purchase yours ?
@@Collector10114 Amazon...?
@@-humveehoove-6106 damn got one yesterday seems ok not from amazon tho you might have been unlucky
@@Collector10114 everything seems to be working now and that good because they are not accepting any 3rd party warranty's unless purchased from the company. But they squared everything up for me an it's working great as of right now and is a blast forsure. What display is on your unit. The linsu... I think that's what it is?
Does this go 28 mph with throttle ?
Throttles can only legally go to 20
@@ElectricBikeReport the assist is mad XD haha
No hill climbing power. Terrible squeaking noise. Good price rite now. But I saw on Amazon it's a 750 watt motor. You say it's 500. What is it?
500 watt motor......
750 watt max
Bought 2 GS9 fatties here in UK. Absolutely love them but a bit too fast for my wife 🤦🏻♂️😳😂😂
There worth it then?
What is that squeaking?
Holy Crap
And here is the best example, why a cheap rear suspension is a real problem.
That squeaking is terrible
