those ribbon curls are so pretty!
marks of such a high skill level producing such artistry.
This guy is over here making the worlds most beautiful washers and we'd just be happy to have a couple of those lathe chips framed and hanging on the wall.
Even the swarf is beautiful!
I never seen a washer look that good before! Thanks for sharing this Chris.
It's a pleasure watching you make these things. Beautiful work!
Now you're just showing off with those shavings!
I love how Chris still uses HSS tools to work his magic, joy to watch him make things.
I mean what's the historic alternative? Case hardened tooling?
Are you sure the round tools aren't carbide button inserts?
@@Leadvesthigh carbon steel, oil quenched and lapped perhaps.
@@jblack3761given he's done a few videos on making form tools with O1, including button cutters I suspect it's either HSS or O1.
Looks like a cone for a bicycle hub!
These videos always make me want to get out in the shop and make stuff, thanks!
Without that high lustre, it just wouldn’t be Clickspring. 👍
Your work never disappoints, you make it look so easy to pump out flawless looking part lol, amazing!
Beautiful work, as always, Chris!
I love how this guy makes a video.
Can’t even call those chips… everything is just so perfect.
Thank you, stunning video and project.
Beautiful!
Stick a pipe cleaner in a Dremel and you can even bring the inside surface to a glossy polish 😂
After a long 12 hour night shift and spending 3 of those fighting to get my machines running smooth again, its fantastic to come home, chill out and watch a master at work.
Wow, that brings back frightening some memories! I feel for you and hope your next shift goes without the same traumas.
Shiny!
You're up early this morning Chriss!
Where can I purchase the deburring bit you used in the video? Thanks - Phil
That's a jewellers burr, try the jewellers supply houses - Cheers :)
G’day Chris,
Can you tell me what the pale blue material is that you use when polishing your components, please ?
I seem to remember reading that it was called “Dialux”, and so ordered some from Amazon, but what I received was a sort of wax-based polishing compound, which is similar to what I used to know as “Tripoli compound”, used for polishing with a calico mop, on a motorised polishing spindle, and that doesn’t appear to be the material that you use . . . .
Have I missed something ?
Lighten my darkness, please !
Kind regards,
Steve A.
Hello mate - I use a wide range of polishing materials depending on the material and how far it needs to be taken in terms of the finish. In this video its abrasive paper through to (i think) 7000 grit. Other polishing materials I use are the various dialux compounds, traditional tripoli, diamantine powder, all grades of diamond powder etc - Cheers :)
ohh, shiny
👍😎
May i ask you one question please. How do you conserve the polished steel surfaces againt rusting? I tried with wax, but that makes them dull.
I suspect these wound up being heated to blue temper in a bed of brass chips
Polished surfaces don't need much treatment to protect them because they're so smooth there's no place for water/dirt to grab on and start rusting. That's why everything on an old ship was polished brass before the days of 316 stainless.
If it's part of a machine then it's normally oily enough to not worry about it. Shock absorber shafts, 3D printer linear rods, hydraulic cylinders, even the little struts that hold up the boot on a hatchback or SUV. They're all polished steel surfaces with only light oiling that last decades.
If you want a decorative item that people will be touching, make it from 316 (surgical/jewellery grade stainless steel). Even 304 stainless rusts if you touch it. Ask any Delorean owner. If it needs to be steel and sit around without being oily, like an ornamental sword, then try spray on furniture wax.

👍👌👏 again and as always.
It's like jewelry
At first l was thinking spherical washers.
