It's actually his hometown coach. He just called him Dad in the story because he's been like a father figure for him. There are plenty of interviews with Karlos in bulgarian where he shares some of his personal life.
You're such a great ambassador for the sport of weightlifting! I tried my first clean and jerk yesterday. Looking at the footage, it was more of a clean and press, but these lifts are addictive!
As a Bulgarian I can say that Karlos is one of the best that we had in a long time. Weightlifting has always been a dark spot in our sports history and the problem with steroids is there for decades, but as you said working out like that requires something that can help you doing these massive volumes. In terms on program I do not think he is training like the supposed "Abadjiev" program. Regarding him, he has participated on many tournaments and never caught with illegal substances, except driving under the influence here in the country. I hope he can bring some joy to us as a nation, where weightlifting is something that always brought us happiness.

Naim is one of the best athlete in the game. I don't say that, wiki say these.:) He was only fifteen years old when he set his first world record. In 1984, 1985 and 1986, he was selected as the World Weightlifter of the Year. He was a three-time Olympic champion at the 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He became world champion seven times, broke forty-six world records. He went down in history as the only athlete to lift 10 kilos more than three times his own weight. He was named the best weightlifter of all time according to sports authorities. She was on the cover of Time magazine in 1988. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he broke the world record by lifting 60 kg and 190 kg in the clean and jerk. He was named "The World's Best Athlete" by the International Weightlifting Press Commission in 1992.
He should be compared to the -90's though. But yeah, he is a beast, last time we saw someone that talented/strong at his age was Ilya in 2005 and he ended up being a GOAT candidate and the best of his decade... Karlos will do the same if he can get past the testing.
hate how everyone always talks about drugs when discussing this guy as though everyone isn't taking. Where is the "drugs in weightlifting" segment when discussing podium winners? lol he's not even outlifting everyone severely and doesn't win international comps easily at all. The dude has looked like a 30 year old since 14. He also looked better than 99% of the population with barely any strict training. He's just a generational talent and has very elite genetics, along with the drugs that literally everyone is on.
Because he's the only one doing massive senior world records at age 18, and significantly more in training, in historically the worst country for doping? And he's lifting on the level of his predecessors who have openly admitted that their training relied heavily on doping? Especially when compared to a country like China where they have such a broad program for developing athletes and are far more successful than Bulgaria was, yet Nassar with far less resources in a nation that hasn't produced many notable lifters in the past 15 years is suddenly beating everyone as a teenager.
