This is one of the few games where moderate joycon drift can actually help. I've taken victories with it, especially with the Yoshi bike (it doesn't turn all that well.)

I enjoy how at the start people were constantly voting random courses as jokes. Then about an hour in you can see them begin to realise just how long this will take and they start voting properly,
I mean, after awhile it just stops being funny. Like wow we were on track 47 and you intentionally reset it!!! your sooo funny :/ like after the second reset i personally found it really annoying

Dan required us to use one of the 3 GLA cars, I myself was the blue shy guy in the dlc, blue yoshi in the first take and Toad in half of the 2nd take of the base game until I had to go
I was the light blue yoshi in the successful attempt on the base game 48 tracks; I was initially using the Comet bike until I realized everyone else was in a Mercedes and I knew what I had to do
I used to know RT, back in college. He was a menace in that damn tournament. He was an ungodly amount of fast… I remember being in first once and before I could even think about being the best, he was in front of me. “The Drift King” they called him, and they did call him that. Fear is all that’s as felt at the mere mention of the drift king. I still tremble at the thought of his speed…

The shell wasn't spinning, so it was being held behind a player who was invisible with a Boo. The player wasn't quite in the same spot as he saw them due to latency, so he didn't hit the shell. 🤓
@@leebydeebyyeah, MK8 online has your items only hit players if they get hit on their screen, unless it's trailed or spinning around you, then it hits them if it does on *your* screen
It is actually impressive for Dan to have stayed up as long as he did, especially when he’s talking constantly, falling off the road, and sourcing sporadically

People were actively targeting him, running themselves into walls or off a cliff just to hit him. Looks like absolute hell. In just the 2nd race, there's someone swerving into a wall while they're in 1st place, just to try to take him out. I commend RT for sticking with this nightmare as long as he did.
The real problem with dan's "the olympics but on drugs" is that at truly maximum output, and for only exceedingly small periods of time, the human body can produce forces it can't handle. If you truly remove the limiters on the human body it will result in dislocations and shattered limbs.

Shoutouts to Cheep Cheep Beach for somehow being the track to push Dry4Haz all the way down to 10th
Everytime they played Sunshine Airport:
1st time: 7:10
2nd time: 9:50
3rd time: 15:00
4th time: 36:16
And the fourth time was my only win out of the 48 races I played. Coincidence? I think not!

It's crazy how RT can have the entire open road in front of him and still somehow manage to hit the banana that was visible for the past 5 seconds... Truly something that only THE Drift King can accomplish

Tris from Take 3 is so good. They joined half through the tournament (they joined on Leaf Cup so they played tracks 25-48) but they got more than half the points of first place. If they had joined for the first cup, they could have realistically won. And that's all with motion controls.
Another fun stat: they got a point average of a little over 11 per race.

As someone who has 100% the whole game, three stars on every course, on every CC, and beat every Nintendo ghost trial, yes, this takes a while

i 100%'d everything like a week before the dlc was announced. i cried that day.

I didn't expect most of the tension to be on the course select screen.
I like to imagine that by doing this endurance test, Dan actually became the drift king, since he has had to play at least 150+ tracks, and that hopefully improved his skills.
Wii was my first MK, so seeing this end on Wii RR was so satisfying. that track is like the final boss of my childhood, especially considering how tragically poor the Wii steering controls were.

We literally just made one round be all 32 tracks and had the course selection be random.

There's actually a fairly recent strategy called bagging, where you purposely play badly so you can get better items
I think RT has done a great job using that strategy ^^
I'm pretty sure they nerfed bagging in the last update. I remember seeing something about that.

Haven’t even started watching yet and I can already feel how long this took. There was a nice point in time when my dad and I always tried to meet up once a week and play through the 48 non DLC tracks, it always took about 3 hours…
I am thoroughly invested in Abby’s journey.
The first 35 seconds of the video feels like Dan with a gun aimed at your head asking...no... *demanding* you choose a cup to race on
I liked when RT said "It's drifting time!" and drifted all over the track.
The blue shells kept hitting RT on the way through because they got confused why the Drift King wasn't in 1st place
Apparently, you can't have 12 people simultaneously completing the simple task of voting for the same track.
Which is exactly the reason I am afraid of doing this very challenge, much as I'd like to.
Dan desperately holding on to his college days (and pretending he's good at Mario Kart) is one of the funniest bits of the channel
watching ZFG play mario kart and the seeing Dry here is just next level comedy. Him beeing the reason the first gand prix had to restart was the cherry on top, great stuff.

43:25 watching RT lose race after race is giving me the vibes of the Olympians overthrowing the Titans. He was the drift king, but now he’s a god of old, no longer belonging to the power he’s birthed. Chat has taken the title by force.

I love how in the second half you can notice literally everyone trying to ram him off the road, with some people even lagging behind on purpose to hit him with things. just watch the track view and his peripheral.
I don't know why everybody is being so hard on him. In his defense, college for him was YEARS ago, back when you still had to peddle with your feet and your wheels were made of rocks
LOL! Quick thing about the Bullet Bill drop off. It does not care where you used it, once it gauges you are close enough to 1st place to not need it or enough time has passed after it was triggered it will power down for a split second then drop you off. What I always do, is when I feel I have used up about half its time, I start acting like the Bullet needs my inputs to turn. This ensures that if I get dropped off in a corner, no harm is done.

This brings me back to my college days of playing Mario kart. Some bastard down the hall always beat my ass, called himself “the drift king”. He never lost and it made the rest of us very sad

The fact that RT got disconnected right after he said he loved Daisy is just peak comedic timing. I can only assume that a Nintendo exec was actually watching the stream and intentionally kicked him.

That intro kinda made me think of how lucky/how im kinda jealous of kids these days LOL. I remember as a kid playing Double Dash with my sister and friends and we probably did each of those courses 100's of times, and while DD is great it did get kinda repetitive doing Daisy Cruiser for the 87th time. Having so many tracks all in one Mario Kart would have been a game changer.
The drift king has been drifting so fast he forgot about brake drifting which is literally crucial for anything 200cc
