The first football match I ever watched. Didnt know anything about football or which teams were the best, but fell in love with Utd after that Hughes goal.
As a United fan, Oldham have not been the same since, and as for Sparky he was the only one who could have turned the match around with a piece of sublime skill.....
They weren't bad, they made it to two league cup finals and a couple of FA cup semi-finals, not to mention being in the Premiership. Hard to imagine seeing where they are now.
I’ve been saying that what seems like all my life, so close to the final I was at the game can still remember the coaches pulling into the services a sea of blue and whit an the banks what a very distant memory and that sharp miss wasn’t his worst another ball passed him lat in the game in front of goal. But to slow to react and he went on to do us more damage as manager bloody sharp hate him not hughes
They were lucky in the fact that Sharp did not have his shooting boots on and that there was an offside in the build up to THAT goal. And yes, this is before the ‘not interfering with play’ rule came in.
I still remember going nuts at 9 years old when Hughes scored that goal. I miss this United
The goal that made me a United fan

Remember watching this on telly. Ecstatic when the equaliser came.
How we miss these sort of characters and leaders on the pitch for United now!
hail sir mark hughes
I love everything about the 90’w

1 league cup final wasn’t it?? 1990 against Forest.
One lg cup final
Glory Glory Man United 🔥 ❤️ 🔥
I am an Oldham fan. Oldham will never play at that stadium ever again. I have supported them all my life
SamTheNiceCat_OAFC Well it was demolished so...
@@shanet5604 I know
Never say never Come On Oldham👍
EFL trophy?
1 league cup final m8, were one of the most feared sides back then
Glory days! Joe Royle legend!
Simon Wildbore
You can't help but feel bad for Oldham, the fact this game sent them spiralling out of the football league to non league.
oldham till i die
I think that Killed Oldham of that goal, that season. Got relegated from the top flight and never recovered since.
I am curious why would in those days a semi final be at Wembley?? I know replay was at Maine Road which makes sense.
More money for the FA.
I love Motson
here's hoping for the antidote tomorrow night OWTB
Hughes scored difficult chances more regularly than sitters
Was actually Nicky butt to mclair to Hughes.
interesting, oldham were actually a decent side back then.....
Who were relegated one month later...
The late goal in this goal knocked the stuffing out of the team. They didn't win any of their last seven games and went down on the final day.
@@DShamen They also missed a sitter against Wimbledon late on, which would have kept them up, if converted.
The moment OAFC club died!!
classic alex remember:)
❤️✌️
"They didn't get the ball away, Oldham".... simple but on the money commentary.....
Worst day of my life this. Hated M*** H***** for years for that... when the real culprit was Graeme Sharp. How on Earth did he miss that?
`he missed he must have been pissed, Graeme Sharp.........Graeme Sharp.`

i was at this match. great day apart from the lucky equaliser
It’s desperately sad to see where Oldham are now. Government legislation is needed now along with regulation. How long do Government need ???
Robbed as always
As fan back then I was gutted, that in the last minute, we could lose out to yet another lucky Manchester Utd goal
zander469 Yeah, United's goal was "lucky", but Oldham's of course wasn't.......same old rubbish from the anti-United brigade
Gypsy Slagwagon luck??? It was a belter
