The Hawker Hurricane Bulman Edition is a cool vintage inspired quartz chronograph watch with a unique multi-layered dial featuring a combination of sandwich style arabics and stick indexes as well as subdials that are modeled after aircraft instrument gauges.
Is this the best flieger under $250? It's totally unique style makes it a strong competitor if you're a fan of vintage aircraft.

Great review, you captured the feel of the watch imho. I enjoy the AVI-8 watches, as an aviation enthusiast I feel like the watches are fun to wear, remind me of great aircraft and their pilots' dedication and what we owe to them. I feel like the watches give a lot for the price, so wonderful to have them in an affordable price range. I'm very happy with the one i have, expect more will be coming to my collection. Thanks!!

Wow, for the price offered, I think is a very fair price and nice watch. Thanks for sharing this review.

They definitely make some fun watches. Lots of interesting details on this one. Great intro btw with the flight footage!

Thanks, I kind of lucked out, it came in the mail a few days early and arrived the day before my flight so I was pretty happy about that.

Nicely done. Very interesting design and a lot of thought put into it. Much more then the last AVI-8 I had. Can't wait for the Polaris.

Yeah, that Matador was a little much, don't think I'd really wear it often, but this ones a lot more tamed down but still really interesting. Pretty good balance.

Great review! Interesting watch, really wish this would be a mechanical piece (but price would shoot up). That dial is very cool! Keep it up my man.

Yeah, an automatic would be sweet, but I don't think AVI-8 has ever done an automatic chronograph, and if you had to lose those subdials you'd also lose a lot of character as well.

Just the Watch - Maybe they should put a seagull movement in it and sell between $400-$500. Guarantee that would be a hot seller!

@@SoCalWatchReviews That would be a really interesting package.

I'm a pilot and wear a 12 dollar Casio. Nice job. Thumbs up! Forgot to mention, cool intro music. It's now stuck in my head

RUclips's audio library keeps getting better. Which Casio is it? I'm trying to get some more awesome budget Casio's on the channel, maybe I can review it. Thanks for watching!

I like everything about the watch, except the distressed bow tie on the dial. I looked over their website and saw that they have several versions, such as flat black bow tie or a blue dial that looked pretty good to me. I appreciate the chrono complication in the aviation styled windows and the vintage strap. All are nice features.
The price (w/ coupon) seems reasonable for what you are getting, but a sapphire crystal would make it a lock.
Nice review with a little history about the company and the line of watches.

Check and see if you can find other pictures or reviews of the other colors before you buy, I think all the dials have the same scratching on that section but it doesn't show as much in the official photos.

This watch is quite beautiful. I enjoy the simplicity of the design. The Seiko and Citizen aviation watches are very busy and distracting in my opinion.
    Great review!

I have the Citizen Nighthawk, and I really enjoy it as well as this AVI-8, two really different styles of Aviation watches.

By far the nicest piece they've made so far- their other designs are a bit too "out there" for me (nearly 50YO). Still think the text speak name is a bit naff, but I guess I'm not their target market. I like this one, good review, Cheers 👍👍

Thanks man! Yeah, I really like the balance they struck with this one, very interesting but tastefully done. I'm pushing 40, so I'm not too far behind you!

Wow, you fly in Japan?, over here the TSA molested me so often I just mail myself to my destination :'(
That dial is too strange, it looks like it's covered in hay and I'm glad they have those plain versions.

This was actually my first domestic flight. I live in Japan but I usually only drive or take the train. This watch came in the mail the day before my flight, so it worked out perfectly to be able to take some footage of the watch in the air.

I can't accept misaligned hands even on a $50 watch. Sometimes it's the hands themselves, that can be fixed, sometimes it's the markers on the dial, that can't. For a price of 200+, this definitely is a deal-breaker for me.

The AV8 company has zero connection with the Royal Air Force or pilots. I find it galling that long dead heroes are exploited to market watches without permission or benefit to their families or to their chosen service, the RAF. BTW, the "target" logo represents the roundels that have identified RAF aircraft since 1918. Unlike some of AV8's other messes, this watch looks OK, but they have made numerous strange dial choices. I understand there is something you call "stolen valor" in the USA....though it won't bother many, to me, this is in the same vein.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  5 лет назад

I can see how that could be off putting. I think the emotional impact is somewhat deadened for me, being an ignorant American without much knowledge of British military history.

I don't mean to imply anything nefarious about AV8. My thumbnail photo is me (2014) in a DH-82 Tiger Moth just before takeoff. It's a WWII RAF biplane, a trainer with an illustrious past, first flown in 1931. Many were built by DeHavilland Canada and used by our RCAF. I'm 72 years OLD....my father served in England from 1940-45, so this history means more to me than most. Watches have long been an interest, but aviation is my passion. AV8 is not evil, but I don't much like or respect them.
