The AT-ST is good, actually. I'll explain why the AT-ST is a good walker for once, and why it worked well within the Galactic Empire's Military, on today's Star Wars Lore video!

In tha AT-ST's defense when it comes to the Battle of Endor:
1- Ewoks are not the apex predator of the forest moon. They are used to leading, tricking, overwhelming, and trapping far larger opponents. That's why their traps worked against a walker.
2- Even with their traps, tactics, and sheer numbers, the Ewoks and Rebels were loosing the fight. The tide didn't turn until after a walker was commandeered by 2 Ewoks and Chewbacca, and was then used to ambush and rout the rest
Wait, they are the apex predator if they hunt another apex predator
@@thessop9439 The Ewoks are one step down from "apex", as they have natural predators, but are able to fend them off with weapons, traps, and tactics. "Apex" would be more along the lines of the Gorax, which have no natural predator, but consider all other species, including Ewoks, as prey.
@@arthurbrandonnielsen Oh they just fend them off?

AT-ST: is impervious to small-arms fire
Also AT-ST: gets destroyed by logs hitting its sides
Embarrassing incidents like that aside, it really is an impressive platform.
It actually hit the munitions, a death sentence for even modern tanks.
@@corrat4866 True, crushing the concussion grenade launcher would set off its munitions and cause a chain reaction into the vehicle.
Corrat Unless they have blowout panels, then you saved the crew and the tank. Also in order to set munitions off, the weapons ammunition need to be very unstable if it gets set off by blunt force (unless they got crushed). Not saying you’re stupid as I agree with you. But those things gotta be armored car or APC worth of protection if logs can flatten it that well
Also, we're not talking about the AT-ST in Mandalorian? You know, the one they turned into a movie monster?
Yeah but... They can be destroyed pretty easily with the tactical deployment of logs 😅
Looking at today's military equipment, there are all sorts of weapons designed to take out armored vehicles. Star Wars never showed much of that. An entire galaxy with high technology and they use logs and cables.
Plot armor is strong in ewoks

The AT-ST is a decently armored walker with heavy blasters. It's hight allows it a large view of the battlefield. Combine that with infants who defend it's main weakness (it's legs) makes it quite a deadly tool.
The chicken walkers doing so much better in the Mandalorian makes more sense when you consider exactly how they got taken out in the film. Smashing them with giant swinging logs crumpling thin armor designed to resist blaster fire, or dumping them in pit traps (good luck trying that in a city).
Love the AT-ST, always found it weird that it was only in 1 or 2 very quick shots in ESB, especially as they would have had to have gone to the trouble to design it

This touches on probably the true battlefield for mecha/Walker's. Urban sprawls are becoming battlefields these days and any scifi setting is going to have them to. Mastery of street to street combat is difficult for many conventional vehicles, but a mech/walker takes those disadvantages and converts them to advantages.
Dont expect mechs to conquer open ground combat as they would be easy targets for anything resembling a tank, but in dense cover environments where there are many obstacles on the ground a mech can step over them and use the cover to mask to obscure its tall profile. We might make fun of the atst walkers on endor, but they were the only useful way of bringing heavy firepower to that battlefield.
In battlefront 2, At-St’s are extremely op, they have no counter on the rebels team and it just shreds through anything in its way. It’s just unfair.

To be fair. The AT-ST wasn't haven't problems with Endor's terrain at all, it was the traps which the Ewoks used which messed with it. From the heavy logs swings that crushed the command modual and the rolling logs which knocked it legs out from under them. Other than that, the AT-ST was perfectly suited to dealing with the problem.

I just LOVE the sound it makes when firing. I use it in battlefront 2 a lot and it's really fun you can feel the power.
90 km/h is not something I can see this vehicle doing and is just another unrealistic number thrown at us by the same people who said Turbolasers have megaton yields. I don't accept it.

Walkers speeds comes from imperial sourcebook, much older then saxtons numbers. I'd love to see it running like ostich on open plain. Some EaW mods gave them canon speeds and it looks like Benny Hill, but with diferent walking styles at higher speed they might work somehow. Robot Chicken got it with AT-AT drag race. :P
When i Was a child it always looks me cool because the head/cabin remember me the german halftracks from ww2
I personally think the at-st is one of the only good vehicles/ships in the empire
Not true. The Tie Interceptor was a beast, the AT-AT is waaaaaay underrated and Star Destroyers easily outmatched rebel ships. Only thing is that they lacked smaller ships sometimes to escort ISDs
they didnt lack smallee ships they just didnt bother to take them with them
I completly agree. That things was my worst nightmare on battlefront 1 as a rebel scum. My brother and me even get it a surname: "The hell's chicken" . Or in his original version "Le poulet de L'enfer".
I still fail to see how any of the points you mentioned couldnt be accomplished in a wheeled and or tracked vehicle.
Now im not saying the atst is bad but again I see no real substantial advantages to the atst over a more conventional wheeled and or tracked vehicle that has the same equipment.
Other than it having a raised weapon platform there isnt really any major advantage. As a lover of mechs I will admit they're mainly for looking cool in sci-fi settings. Mechs are something we dont have in the real world so they're cool to have in fiction.
Only it's hight as weapon platform. Defensivly it doesn't ass anything. AT mine would rip off leg easly making it completly useless, even if crew would only get small concusion, while wheeled/tracked vehicle could still fight immobilised.

The problem with the AT-ST is like the Bradley during it's production: it's trying to do too many things at once. It's trying to be a scout, but is too big for the role. It's trying to be an infantry support vehicle, but lacks the armor and firepower. It's trying to be a rapid response vehicle, but again it's size makes it difficult to use outside of an open field. It even lacks basic countermeasures like smoke and advanced sensors seen on modern tanks.
Which brings me to a point. Rather than making a poor jack of trade, just focus on one aspect: support. Give it more armor such as spaced armor, more weapon implacements, give it countermeasures, and have it operate in packs with infantry support. Viola, you have a better vehicle.
Violas suck
No no no, dear god that’s untrue, the Bradley was never meant to take anything more than 50 cal, it wasn’t meant to be a APC but a IFV, it had missles for better anti tank capabilities. The military also was working on a improved Bradley. Also fun fact, Bradley scored more tank kills than Abrams. The Pentagon Wars movie should not be seen as a documentary and the book is a absolute bad book made by a man that legit wanted to replace Abrams with M48 Patton’s for better survivability.
Sorry for the rant but I’ll send you to a link why the Bradley is not as bad as you think and why you think is wrong. Not calling you stupid but misinformed on the situation.

This should go into more depth about the Bradley.
I love the thumbnail, title and intro.
I love AT-STs. They smolder well in the crater made by my y-wing
Favorite quote from Allegiance "Can I be the Thumb?"
Yes, the AT-ST is good for urban environments and even a typical battlefield, but I think that Endor really showed that they're not suited for countering guerrilla fighters, and that's why I didn't appreciate how it was used in The Mandalorian. Can it take out an entire batallion in many circumstances? Yes. But I was not impressed when a supposedly badass Mandalorian with a grappling hook in a dark forested environment with the element of surprise was afraid of it.
You can be badass and still be afraid of things, especially if said thing is a walking tank that can evaporate you just by looking your way
@@hyperx72 That's fair. But it doesn't stop me from being unimpressed by the solution Mando came up with for dealing with it. One simple solution for the scenario would have been to pull a Chewbacca, which would have significantly shortened that conflict. My point is that the solution landed upon is inconsistent with how the Mando has been built up as well as how Mandalorians have still been portrayed in the new canon.
@@micaiahgrossmann8058 Ok what's pulling a chewbacca?
possibly my favorite at-st moment in all of Star Wars was in Rogue One when Saw's rebels were creating chaos in the city and at the end of the scene, the camera just shows an at-st coming around the corner in the distance, firing at stuff. it's a clear signal to the audience how dangerous it is by how quickly the rebels ran away once it entered the picture
I remember a couple old d6 WEG games. Thermal detonators or pounding away at it with an E-web, while being a sitting duck were your options to take one out.
The atst is one one my favorite walkers. Really good at taking out infantry and light armor and well as airspeeders. It is quite moble and has high grade sensors making you practically the opposite of blind. Has all around decent armor against light laser fire. It is highly modular too, as eck said. Obviously it has weaknesses, and its not a tank destroyer, but its great against what the rebellion army usually had. atst and S1 firehawk heavy repulsortank are my favorite imperial ground vehicles...
6:57 my brain heard "the walkers legs are weapons themselves" which while true has a totally different meaning lmao.
0:53 Duuuuude. I JUST bought a copy each of Allegiances and Choices of One a week ago after hunting for copies without the Legends banner (so it better fits on my shelf with my classic EU novels). Can't wait to dig into them, missed them when they came out.
Me: Spawns as a rebel assault trooper.
AT-ST: You must realize... you are Doomed!
It's a good intimidation and patrol weapon. I actually wish when it showed up in Rogue One it was shooting OVER a small building to show why it's used.
When i was a kid and i played the 2015 Battlefront game, I never liked playing survival mode because I was terrified because the AT-ST was so powerful, nowadays it is my favourite star wars vechile
played the original Star Wars Battlefront games on the ps2 a lot over the years, (still do from time to time) and going up against an AT-ST in either one without tanks, is basically a death sentence.
those things could wipe out multiple squads before they even knew what hit them.
piloting it sure was fun, destroyed many an army of infantry and tanks with those metal chickens.
it's a thing of beauty when the AT-ST is on duty.
I remember reading in TFU2, it said that for every person that mocked the AT-ST's appearance, a dozen more fell to its guns or were crushed beneath its feet.
I'm glad to see the AT-ST getting some love, it always seems remarkably under-appreciated. It really is an incredibly useful strategic asset in most situations. I'm so glad that we get to see an AT-ST being threatening(and a little frightening) in the Mandalorian.
That opening shot was perfect Star Wars squadrons is literally exploding my free time I have a f in chemistry and a c German becuase i play to much
A video talking about my original favorite walker in a good light? YES! THANK YOU!
Like the Krennic line you used in the thumbnail.
I'll take the trade federations spinny wheel vehicle and day of the week. It had the most bad ass missiles not just in any star wars film, but in any cinematic film i've ever seen...PURPLE!
All Hail the AT-ST the mechanical terror bird
I have read the first chapter in the heir to the empire and I really like the book mostly how Thawn takes advantage of the weekens of the attackers leader’s species and wins the battle so easily
These walkers can even be outfitted with smart rockets that can track aircraft. I will however state that it is a poor idea putting them against heavy tanks as their height actually works against them there.
Edit: Unless of course it gets close enough to hit the actual top armor of the tank so that the laser cannon howitzers can properly puncture through the armor as it would not be angled.
I love the design overall but I'd like them to explicitly confirm that the drivers can close the "eye" ports and rely on viewscreens or something like that, because having them always open is a huge vulnerability
In the Mandalorian the raider AT ST closes its eye ports to defend from the pulse rifle blast.
They should put a blaster proof clear material there
Timothy Zahn is like Shakespeare of the sci-fi novels
I've always loved the AT-ST; it's like an imperial guard sentinel but more heavily armed. It was bloody terrifying in its episode of The Mandalorian
On an unrelated note, speaking of cheating videogames as a kid with level codes.... who remembers the PATSUX mission in PS1 version of C&C?
Star Wars fan: eh I don’t like the AT-ST.
EckhartsLadder: it’s treason then!
Radio sounds: uhm we have a chicken walker on the battle field kshhhht
More radio sounds: where was it spo- PEW PEW PEW PEW
A Fury (Fray Bentos) style novel/film about a singular AT-ST and its crew across a campaign or gruling mission would be awesome.
Ah yes the AT-ST. The Go To walker to win your kill streaks and be a force of terror in Battlefront games.
I remember crushing these AT-ST's like paper in the Force Unleashed
I always knew this Walker had far more use and purpose than what it is shown in episode 6!!!
ALWAYS LOVED THIS METAL BEAST!!
Centurion.. mand or unmand . guarding and patrolling places like ERIA 51..of the grid.Raptors have to stick to the roads
#askeck You should do a video about the synergy of all the walkers fielded during a given time frame (republic and imperial) to show how while each vehicle had their strengths and weaknesses, when properly combined to support each other they were a much stronger force. For example, 2x AT-AT + 4-6x AT-ST + 2x AT-AA + 2x SPMA/SPHA could dominate almost any other force (combined arms or not).
I still remember calling them "Chicken Walkers" back in the day.
