I think one of the reasons your scrap blocks are so attractive in the bags, etc. is because you pull out the white as an accent ... I call that the focus fabric. Any color can be a focus fabric, but it sure does make your scrap bolts look more cohesive and less chaotic.
@@sunbeamfabricart I saw another quilter channel, they kept the Little scraps near sewing machine in a small container & would sew 2 pcs. B4 & after each current project, She called them leaders & enders. That way she could use scrapes & work on her new project
Great work. It is quite satisfying when we actually finish a project. I was chosing fabric for a crazy quilt I would like to make this year yesterday. In the process I opened a couple of shoeboxes and realized there was a bunch of blocks I had started for another quilt. Then I counted up in my head how many projects I started and did not finish, there's about 4 or 5. Not sure what that's about, but I am going to try to finish at least one project before I start another one. I think we just like to make things and the ideas keep popping in our heads. I don't know. I guess I need to learn to "power through" as you said. Thank you for the video.
It was very gratifying to find someone who does their scraps this way. The only thing i do differently is I cut 9.5 inch squares. I have made at leat 8 quilt tops so far and can make about 4 more. I am trying to get them completed so I can possibly sell them. I also have been making some backs with large scarps adding in random fat quarters. It is a fun process and i am so happy to not be wasting fabric. Thank you for your video. I am now a subscriber too
Great job! It's amazing how quickly you can make a roll of fabric like that. I do something similar and use widish strips of remade fabric down the centre of my quilt backs. That cuts down on the amount of backing fabric that I need. It is very satisfying to make new fabric out of what was headed to the landfill otherwise. Cheers! 😊
That's great. I've been working on my scraps for more than 2 months (weekends only). I have just been so overwhelmed by my scraps that I decided to put some quilt projects aside and sew some of my scraps up. I sewed up some like you did in your video but I also cut some to standard sizes and I've made 2 scrap quilts that I'll donate. The problem with scraps is you end up with more scraps after trimming them up - I make pet beds with those scraps. I really do feel like I can never get ahead of my scraps though. You did a great job and I enjoyed watching your process.
I started binge watching all of your tutorials today! I am so impressed with your ideas & way of thinking. I am hoping for some new incentive to start projects that do not tap into my perfectionism & actually completing projects instead of procrastinating for fear I may not make the quilt perfectly. Anyway, I love your ideas, your approach to projects, & your finished work!
I'm happy to hear this! ☀️❤️ I am not a perfectionist, although I do try hard on special projects (like my paper piecing). But I definitely procrastinate! I have so many quilt tops to get finished up by November! Looking forward to hearing from you again, Linda! 🌸
Oh wow! I love sewing with scraps, it's just so soothing to me. Great idea of making a "bolt" of fabric - going to work on this - thank you for your video!
Catching up on some of your earlier videos. 3-4 months ago I started sewing scraps together on foundation fabric (old sheet) and I thought 24" was a large piece, which I've already used. Seeing you create this LONG piece means I know I can create longer pieces and not think it's crazy to do so haha. Thanks for showing it's ok 😁
That's great to hear!! And guess what I have been doing this week!? Yes, clearing out more scraps! I will be sharing that video in the next few days as soon as I finish it up. ☀️♻️
Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve done lots of quilt blocks together with my scraps but I guess to make it into one big piece or several bigger pieces to make other things with and I saw your bags that you made with them and they turned out so cute they’re so unique.!!
Thank you for your sewing examples. I’m so happy to hear you call it Rubbermaid. It irritates me to hear decluttering “ experts “ call it all Tupperware when probably 90% of peoples plastic containers are not Tupperware. Whew! Glad I got that off my chest. Haha.
I think this video and "Turn Scraps Into Good!" video are the two definitive videos that have changed my thinking about my scraps - - I love them, but I am always behind. However, by watching your videos a few time each, I am finally seeing my weaknesses (which explain why I sometimes feel overwhelmed - - but ... not enough to stop gather scraps! LOL) anyway, when I get discouraged, I watch your scrap videos and get inspired to keep working at it.
Hi You inspired I made my own ... I used it for a Little project.... I will continue next year when i will finish the halloween and christmas ones. Now i am cutting men shirts and add more scraps... Sometimes i am watching this video to relax ... Weird ? Kisses from France
Beautiful, I LOVE this method, my favorite way to use scraps. For those who asked how long it took-this doesn’t have to be done all in one setting, get a designated container and quickly sew the scraps at the end of your sewing day or end of each project, or designate 15 minutes a day. You will still have the same wonderful results. 😊❤
I’ve just found you & I’m having a binge-watch. I also do this with scrap fabric (cos I like patch-working more than quilting!!!). I also do the same with my scrapbook papers when making albums by sticking scraps onto copy paper to turn into more sheets of paper; making use of every ‘scrap’!!!. Thank you for sharing. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 & 🐶Omega the Cavalier🐶
Thank you for the kind comments! ☀️ And the sub! I hope you enjoy my content! I love working with scraps MOST of the time. Currently working on a project I'm not really loving, but getting through it anyway! ☀️
Great idea! When I am done setting up my new sewing room I am going to do this. I have taken my crumbs and sewed onto tape paper but this is a way to make wider and usable. Thanks
I can really use this information. I'm finishing another project right now but I'm planning to do this just like you did. This is a great idea. Thank you
I just came across your video, I make 10" crumb squares and use them for backing. I put a 2.5 " strip on the sides top and bottom so they don't get to thick when sewing on my projects. I love how you made the bolt of scraps. I am going to do this . I have over 300 10" squares made. Question So if I take some of them and cut them down to 18" and sew the sqs together it would work like yours? Should I do any thing different? From now on I will make bolts of fabric, sorted by colors. Thanks again for a great tutorial.😘🥰
There is certainly room on this bolt for wider fabric, so you could make it 20" wide instead of 18", so you would not have to cut anything down, maybe. I am glad you found the video helpful!
If I missed it, I apologize, but about how long did the whole process take you? I would love to try this, but would like to know how much time I need to devote to a process like this. Thanks, and great job!! (Cindy Ratliff)
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your comment. I believe I spent a total of around 20-30 hours on this project, after work and one full weekend. Rule of thumb, the smaller the pieces you use the LONGER it will take! I used a combination of small and larger pieces in this bolt. It was so fun!
what kind of stitch do you use when sewing your scraps together, ive seen some people ovr lock and top stitch even, what are you using here? a zig zag or straight?
One thing I do to a little bit differently on Scrap projects, I sometimes use a larger seam allowance to make sure all those rough and wonky edges are caught up in the seam allowance☀️👍✂️
I really enjoy sewing with my scraps. This is an idea I hadn't thought of. This is the first of your videos that I've watched...do you always have such low volume? I had my tablet turned all the way up and I still struggled to hear and understand you. 🧵🪡

Agree! Thanks Mary! ☀️♻️
It was certainly relaxing to watch you do scrappy fabric. I find it messy, time consuming, but sooooo fun.
It really is! Thanks!
I’m glad you tube recommended this channel. I have 1 1/2 Laundry baskets of straps.
That is awesome! Welcome to the fun! ☀️☀️☀️
Hello, great idea for making "a Bolt" of fabric....I'm going to make "a bolt" of my low volume scraps to use as background blocks.. many thanks.
Oh nice! That's a great idea! Thanks for watching.
The small trimmings make great stuffing for draft stoppers. For windows or doors. Stuffing for pet beds too !

Would make the start of a great drape panel. Just keep adding more of these strips together to desired width and cut to desired length!
