"spectacle" Why the harsh judgement.?. Are you a professional conductor? Are you an organist? Have you ever had to accompany a choir (as organist) seated at an organ console a city block away from the choir relying on nothing but a rear view mirror (or a cctv monitor at best) to watch a conductor.?.
As a retired choir director, (and far from being the be-all, end-all authority), I'm still a bit amused (bemused?) at the choirmaster's "wind up and pitch" when conducting the final descant. Really? I was always taught that less movement (well-placed and well-planned) is almost always more. Just my opinion. The choir sounds lovely, and the organist is certainly quite talented.
Beautiful, but seriously what's with the choir director and the moves?
He's learned from Stephen Cleobury of King's College Chapel. He too directs like a whirling windmill. Lots a "English" in those cues!
I know I'm just an organist. But isnt he supposed to be facing the congregation?
Landon Durrant He is directing the choir not the congregation.
He's directing a choir, not 'performing a spectacle in front of the altar of God'.

For Christmas, why are vestments purple/violet and not white or gold.
Could it be that being 20th December this Carol Service of course is taking place in Advent (not a Christmas Eve Midnight Mass)?
