armor defined in this game as given by the actual Manuel is... "The effects of armour are on a sliding scale depending on the amount of armour worn by the target unit. Foot armour is of some benefit against muskets at long range, but otherwise armour is of little value against firearms. It is, however, beneficial against bows and other obsolete non-firearm shooting weapons." as vague as that is, i also figured out that you should be able to see said armor bonus while engaged in melee.as well as having armored units mixed with non armored units in the same group will not change there armor values. sos each unit retains its identity. so thats the best i got after a good look.
Well thank you very much for looking that up for me. I could easily be charged with the age-old "RTFM", although it was one of those things where everyone has a vague idea of what armor does, so there isn't enough lack of information to make me stop being lazy. But again, thanks!
A few things I noticed: *Fighting on friendly terrain caused additional reserves to join your army... and thank Khorne for that, because the numbers were NOT looking good before that point. Probably something to keep in mind for future strategic manouvres as well; The game gives defenders advantage by way of moar dudez. *The russian cavalry is VASTLY more numerous than yours... and you decided to split yours up. Might not have been your best move ever - for future battles, consider massing your cavalry on one flank, and compensate with a unit or two of pike on the other. Kinda like you did in that first tutorial-esque battle against the parliament, when you took their heavily fortified hill with minimal casualties. Heck, even when your cavalry IS superior, it'll likely still remain a good plan. *In this battle, you started out in a ditch... but so did the enemy. As such, the battle was fated to favour whomever seized the high ground in the middle. The russians' defensive posture favoured their superior(however slightly) artillery, but it disfavoured everything else. Additional advantage will be awarded for whichever side claims the west-hand hill, so I'd place the cavalry there. *The "correct" way to answer enemy horse archers is via foot archers, who have far more firepower, for less cost. Your cavalry units(armoured or otherwise) are PRECISELY the units those tatars wanted to face, as they are high-value, low-bodycount units without the means to engage them unless they f**k up. *The reason your right-flank cavalry ended up disadvantaged and broken is because they were massively outnumbered and surrounded on every side. Hills are good, but they aren't THAT good. Also, I never want to hear you say the term "hold" when refering to cavalry ever again. The correct term is "take". Do not forget, there might be a test. ----- *Ahem* so... other than that, it still seems you are winning by the end. Sure, your right flank got crushed, and the percentages look scary, but the right flank was never much to write home about anyway, and you now hold the hill with lots and lots of pikes and shots, while the bulk of the ruskie cav is stuck in the middle of bloody nowhere, chasing down some stray ponies while their unsupported infantry is getting blown to pieces, so... yeah. That whole thing should work quite nicely in your favour. Also, your far left flank is doing good work, and should be descending upon the exposed Russian rear shortly :)
I read in detail your full comment, and I'm glad you posted it before watching the battle. After it completes (very soon in the next episode), it would be interesting to get your opinion on how things fared, even though I didn't follow the points you have already mentioned. For instance, I wonder if you think some of your tactical advice is a more "one of a few valid styles", or still absolutely the right move. I'm not experienced enough at this game to know myself, but perhaps there is more than one way to fry an egg. In any case, thanks for the advice commentary!
Moved house and only had internet on for 60 seconds. Such a great start. Loved how you kited the enemy over to the hill. I'm glad you're a good player because campaign on level 3 will be challenging. Isn't it great when you start loving a troop type you previously disliked?
Moving, always "fun" (good luck with that). I would say that my improved understanding of light cavalry has been part and parcel to big leap in my gameplay. By episode 5, I'm still confused by the minor mechanics, but we'll get there eventually.
Maybe u just talk about what will happend next year with some cristmas themed song. and a game about or set under cristmas as backround or simply just you playing a cristmas themed game.
:) Btw have you played Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations before? Also on sale (and usually quite expensive). Used to play Fleet Command but this looks much more in depth.
CMANO scares me, frankly. It's up there with War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition. One day I hope to know and play these games, but God only knows when I will have the time to learn.
Definitely more complicated than Rule the Waves, which would be a very "lite" version of spreadsheet management compared to Aurora. RtW is one of my favorite games right now. If you have any interest in that era, and like the other games on my channel, it's almost a must-have.
Surprised the game called Terico units Pike and Shot units. Im assuming thats what the game title is based off of. the era where black powder weapons made a big scene but were still reliant on traditional techknowledgies. The marrying of the new and old tactics of war.
Hi Matt, I'm not an expert and barely even have amateur-levels of knowledge about this era, but do you mean "Tercio"? (It's not meant to be a pedantic correction, my knowledge is so poor there could be a Terico unit that I'm unaware of)
I kind of lumped the term Tercio to mean the combined arms unit of pikemen and musket men. Pike and shot. I don't have any special knowledge either but I learned the term reading about the thirty years war. It seemed appropriate since it's the style of infantry organization that became prevalent for over a century. In my comment I was just noticing that "Pike and shot units" was a weird way to refer to the actual unit style of pike men in the front, guns in the back, that was historically known as the Tercio. Can't blam the game makers for using the term pike and shot to name their game but a bit lazy when referring to the actual unit. Anyways I was basically complaining so pay it no mind, I wasn't criticizing your playing just re game itself.
I realize this reply is late but the game designers were not lazy. Tercio units are in the game, but from an earlier era. The Pike and Shot units, while containing similar elements, are arranged very differently and have different flanking rules.
TortugaPower I wish Tw had more competition, would force them to get back to their a game. I will watch the whole game play through when I have a bit more time.
@@melanoc3tusii205 what is the interest of such a game ? Panzer corps or hex of steel have so more possibilities. Even the landscape are so limited in this game ! Is is just charging enemy! No planes, no artillery, no boat, so poor gameplay

You have my respect and admiration sir.

I really like this game and ur let's plays. Hope u can do another series of this or sengoku jidai
I always wanted to do my next pike and shot series on Sengoku Jidai, although I'm a bit overloaded for the moment.
TortugaPower I appreciate the response! I'm subbed cause of this series so when u start pike and shot or sengoku I'll know and be super pumped.
I had a really good time with this series, had some great comments back and forth with people like JRedNose. Still, it may be some time off.
Sound cuts out half way through
I had some copyright issues with this one, as I recall (it's been a while). I think it's a couple minutes of audio removed.
Are we gonna get a Cristmas Special?
Of something.
Well Happy Holidays

Okay, I'll see if I can put something together haha :P

Nice just saw this on sale.
Yeah I bought it myself at this sale price :)

The spaniards were genius. Were they the first one to use tercio?
@@sayanorasonic Yeah but they took inspiration from antiquity (Macedonians, Romans) and the pike component modeled after swiss pike.
the music repeating over and over again is annoying.
Not only annoying, but it causes copyright issues! I know I turn it off at some point in this series.
I bet. Nice video by the way.
Hard to play these once you have played Total war..
Yes, these are very different styles. This is more tabletop wargame simulation, but there's a lot of appeal for real-time battles.
TortugaPower I wish Tw had more competition, would force them to get back to their a game. I will watch the whole game play through when I have a bit more time.
Only watch if it interests you. Our time is finite!
I like these games more. I can't click fast enough to control any decent-sized army in TW, unfortunately.
half-assed attempt.
I'll need a little more context to understand what you're referring to.
what a crappy game...
What a crappy existence...
