Definitely more pantry and freezer clean outs. It’s inspiring me to do the same. For those pancakes, I would have mixed the two bowls of batter together to make the not so great one taste better.
For your frozen bananas: peel and break them into a bag BEFORE freezing. They are great in smoothies. And, you can still make banana bread if you want. Less messy too.
Definitely begin with the perishables in the fridge. When the pantry is a "mess" (overly filled or not) I often put an emphasis on opened and partial packages or containers with the goal being to reduce the number of containers. In the freezer, sometimes I start with the item(s) that fall out and hit one in the head as the door is opened; newest or oldest, getting hit on the head takes priority. Then I start looking for the ugliest items, the things whose wrapping looks worst and take at least one out of the freezer to thaw. This generally puts a freezer item in the fridge which looks back to clearing the fridge of perishables. Depending upon the freezer stype or where the old items may be lurking, sometimes I work my way to the bottom vertically or to the back on one shelf until I reach a freezer wall; then I do a mini-rearrangement on the hunt for the oldest and ugliest packages or containers.
Make 3,2,1 banana bread..... 3 mashed bananas, 2 eggs, and 1 box of any flavor cake mix. Mix all, bake in greased loaf pans at 350 til toothpick comes out clean. Easiest and best banana bread ever. I also add nuts and/or chocolate chips. For the corn bread I add drain corn, jalapeños, and cheese
Your walking through the grocery store and you get this on sale or you notice that and you buy something. Then all of sudden 2 months go by and you haven't touched whatever. Our freezer in the garage is SOOOOOO helpful with keeping tabs on this stuff. I couldn't cook without it. Every New YEar's Eve; this is what I do. I go through the fridge, freezer, cabinets and anything that's dated a bit----comes out or to the front. That's how I spend my New Year's.
I would LOVE to see you spend less than $20 for the whole month of October, only buying ingredients you need to go with meals you've planned from your pantry. Keep clearing it out! I think it would be most satisfying.
I love it how you're on a constant mission to clean out your pantry and freezer because you are also on a constant mission to stock up on low cost grocery deals! Lol, the cycle never ends. I'm working on it... today I stocked up on pork for $1.50 a lb and a 10lb bag of chicken for $7.90. I keep getting discouraged about grocery prices going up but if you just focus on the good sales you find and then do your own personal edition of "Chopped" every night it's not so bad.;-) And beans stretch chili in a very awesome cheap way while also tasting delicious so in my book chili always has beans!
Pantry Clean out idea: buy nothing and make due but toward the end assess what you ran out of that you need to stock more of and what you never ran out of and need to buy way less of. For me, I find I need to buy a lot more shelf stable high vitamin fruit and veg options example roasted peppers, pineapple and way less canned tomatoes and pasta anything. My family actually hates pasta - why do I have any? Frozen Banana idea: Banana/ chocolate/peanut butter shake = 2 frozen bananas 2 tablespoons peanut butter 2 table spoons dried milk 2 tablespoons cocoa powder- grew up eating that for breakfast and I crave. You could add some kind of sweetener but I think it’s perfect with the over ripe banana sugar.
Thanks for the motivation! I have just restocked my kitchen freezer with stuff from the deep freezer. Pantry is half used up too! The last month has been pretty successful for us.
I finally did it this year!Got all the meat used out of the freezer before we got out NEW beef...lets just say the younguns got tired of beef tounge and liver...and the dogs enjoyed some ...our neighbors gave us some too and i didnt relize how much was in there...which we never do remember what all is in there
Chili with beans✅ Great to hear you're adding recipes on your website woo hoo! BIG YES to continue cleaning out food videos, inspiring to keep all on track Gonna redoing my grocery list now cause yeah we have enough in pantry & freezer!
Hey! It is always a good thing for the cupboards to not seem like there is less. That is Gods provision. I pray and the Lord provides. With prices as high as they are just be glad they don’t seem to go down. Sometimes I go separate some things from the fridge and freezer and pantry to the front and try to use those things first because of how long I have them or try to create a recipe from what I have but I am always glad to see that for some reason there always seems to be at least one more meal or more that I could make. Thank goodness!
I'm working of eating out of my freezer and pantry too! My stand up freezer is stuffed e with beef and garden produce!! My basement is full of onions, potatoes, squashes and garlic from a local farmer... My plan is pretty much to do a no spend/grocery month
One of my favorite ways to use up salsa is a Mexican casserole. Use precooked shredded chicken, 2 cans of cream of chicken soup and a jar of salsa. Mix that all together. Sometimes I add a little water if it seems too thick. Crush up some tortilla chips and then pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Top with the chicken mixture and then top with shredded cheese. Bake at 350 until hot and bubbly. Got to watch it so the chips won't burn. For whatever reason some brands do. Serve with sourcream ! It's delicious and a family favorite.
When my daughter left home I made it my mission to see if I could use up everything in my freezer and pantry etc without going to the shops for anything…I used up everything I didn’t buy anything for 8 weeks it’s amazing how creative you can get. I actual forgot I need need to buy milk during the week. You should try it
Beans in chili. Always. Also, we also deep freeze rolls of sausage. Just started instapotting the sausage rolls directly from the freezer. Yep. In The Package. On a trivet, maybe 20min? Use trivet to remove to cutting board. Use a knife to remove the plastic packaging. It will be thawed or slightly frozen in the center. I have a better chance of nice slices to brown in skillet. Hope that helps.
We do no beans in chili. I realize my choice is controversial but I make it how we like it. I do every month like it is a pantry clean out and we do pasta once a week and we still have a ton!
beans in chili are a must..the more the better...I purposely buy more bananas than I will eat..slice them on parchment paper on a large cookie sheet...freeze and put in snack bags...dump in bowl and let them thaw about 30 seconds...like eating banana ice cream...
Loved the video! As a side note…you and your husband seem to have very well matched personalities lol I feel like one is always much more quiet than the other but y’all seem very similar and fun!
I use grated carrots to sweeten and cut the acidity of tomato based dishes 🙂 and I always add beans to chili (to make it stretch further, more budget friendly).
Have to thank you for telling us to shop Smith's early in the a.m. to get the deals (it's been a while since you said it, I know, but I started driving across town because of you). I have saved so much money on meat in the past 2 months!!! Thanks for that tip. Have a great week.
Love this typ of contact, eating from the pantry and freezer. I've been trying to but things as cheap as possible but find that I still end kup forgetting things in the back of the cabinet. Found 2 bags of over date food in the cupboard today cleaning it out.
Love the clean outs! Would love a month where even though you buy things (because, deals!) you put everything new in a certain spot and don’t use any of it, and work with only what you had prior?
Pantry clean out month is actually our favorite because it makes us get creative and we almost always end up with a couple new recipes to carry on the rest of the year. A realistic goal would be to at least use up everything expired (or close to expiring) before you end your challenge 🤷♂️either way I’m super loving it 🥰
Clear out the stuff that's nearest it's end date and continue eating fresh. I love how you put everything together and everyone loves it - I try that and everyone goes hungry haha
I had a hole in my banana freezer. I was so proud. Filled it with shredded zucchini. That’s okay. I’m making muffins every week for hubbys breakfast. It will go eventually. 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🧁🧁
So, here’s a conclusion I’ve come to about September. September is not a great month for a little to spend month and pantry clean out. Especially here in Utah but I even noticed it in Texas. In Utah It’s full of big sales including case lot sales bigs it’s declared “Emergency Preparedness” month. The last 3 years I’ve failed epically try to do a low spend month in September ( March is a particularly bad month too!) so I’m going to focus my efforts in October for sure from now on. The first couple of weeks in November too to make room for Holiday food! But seriously, you’re doing great and obviously using what you’ve bought!
It's just me and my partner but we're moving in a few weeks and I'm trying to use up everything in our pantry and freezer as well. These videos are fun to watch!
Yes more clean out vids, I’m in the process of the same, it’s amazing how many things you keep buying just because they are on sale, then they go,out of date or get freezer burn etc and end up no good and in the bin. Oh can we also see around your garden please, I would love to see what you have growing 😊
Any pantry/frig/freezer videos are helpful. Maybe q and a from viewers to learn how lots of people keep theirs. Any ideas would be helpful to perserving and using up food so it doesn't go to waste.
I would love to see you not buy any food for one month. NOTHING. And show us what its like to live off what you have in case of emergency. What money you didn't spend you could double up the followiing month to restock.
I don't think she could do it! Those stores call to her, the clearance tags speak to her, the thrill of getting something for less is an endorphin rush!!! Plus, October has 31 whole days! No way could she do it!
Look at 6 figures under, at the beginning of the pandemic, she did this for like 8 weeks. She eventually ordered a few thingsike yeast and peanut butter but for the most part she bought almost nothing
I love breakfast for dinner. I had gravy and toast with a spoon full of jelly with it . Yum! Speaking of chili, I plan on doing that in a day or so. Where I'm from we put elbow macaroni in our chili. I don't like just beans so I use refried beans so I get the flavor of beans just not whole beans. Of course we use seasoning n alot of mild cheddar over the top! Yumo! Love you guys! Indiana fan!
Definitely more pantry and freezer clean outs. It’s inspiring me to do the same. For those pancakes, I would have mixed the two bowls of batter together to make the not so great one taste better.
Me too !
Or add some of the massive amounts of chocolate chis she keeps in stock
Yessss love getting the ideas
There's nothing you can do to make Krusteaz taste better. Trust me on this.
That was exactly what I expected her to do.
For your frozen bananas: peel and break them into a bag BEFORE freezing. They are great in smoothies. And, you can still make banana bread if you want. Less messy too.
I slice mine when they reach the color I like..freeze them..then eat the slices..like eating banana ice cream
Good point....they are great for smoothies.....
She does ALL that. Dave got a HUGE box so that's why she still has them lol. She's so funny.
Oh yes, prep them before! I only made the mistake of prepping them after once. : D
YES!! I didn't peel them before freezing once, NEVER again! Peeling them after was 😩
Yes my chili always has beans. Thank you for all the fantastic ideas!
Yes, we def need another 1-6-12 months of clean out content from you! You're the best!!!
Did you know 🤓 you can cut celery up and put into baggies and put into the freezer. You never run out. It is awesome never running out. 🥰
Definitely begin with the perishables in the fridge. On board for more pantry challenge meals. I’m wanting to do the same to save money for Christmas and clear room for Thanksgiving leftovers 😋
Stoptober! stopping at home and clearing out the pantry! 🤣😄

Haha personal edition of Chopped

I loved that really big pancake. One of my most favorite books when I was little was Eric Carle's Pancakes Pancakes. I loved the artwork too.
I finally did it this year!Got all the meat used out of the freezer before we got out NEW beef...lets just say the younguns got tired of beef tounge and liver...and the

We did beans!!! We also did chili in Crockpot, so it could cook all day. Second day we had it with cornbread.
Yesss please continue pantry/freezer clean out videosssssss

You seriously have so much food on hand, girl! Saw the recent freezer full of beef, etc, in addition to the full pantry.
Yes to beans in the chili! I love just adding whatever I need to use up into it! Peel the NANNERS before you freeze 'em! 🍌🍌🍌
Born and raised in Texas…absolutely no beans!! 🥰🇨🇱🇨🇱
No Beans! Born and raised in Texas also
I use grated carrots to cut the acid in tomatoes instead of sugar.
Love clean out videos. I love cooking and using up. Planning a trip so saving money is the name of the game. Thank you for the inspiration.
Yes! Yes. More pantry clean out videos. Agreed.

I could really do with a pantry clean out, I'll probably do a lot of slow cooker type meals, to make things easy.
Loved the video! As a side note…you and your husband seem to have very well matched personalities lol I feel like one is always much more quiet than the other but y’all seem very similar and fun!

This is so satisfying! Pantry clean out videos are my favorite 🤩

Beans in chili growing up, but I use them about half the time. I like beanless for chili dogs the next day.
Any pantry/frig/freezer videos are helpful. Maybe q and a from viewers to learn how lots of people keep theirs. Any ideas would be helpful to perserving and using up food so it doesn't go to waste.

Thats actually really smart idea we all stock up what we think we would need but actually doing it would let us know what we are missing
Maybe you could do that
@@khope2580 Oh my goodness, I've tried!! And failed miserably. My hope is in Frugal Fit Mom to show me it's possible.

A good bean to add to chili is Ranch Style beans. The sauce in these beans goes really well with chili. They are hearty beans
Yes please your meal prep videos are my fav!
In the UK we will have a rise in energy costs 1st October...so pantry clean out it is for me sighhh
I am in the process of using up what is in the deep freezer. I’ve been making a weekly meal plan for dinners.
Love beans in chili! They’re a must!
Beans all the way! Though I have never tried celery in chili.
We love those dehydrated potatoes for camping trips. They are amazing!
I’ve never seen them before! 😊 Do you find them in the grocery store and if yes where would I find them? Sounds perfect for camping!
