@@TheFODRunner yeah funny with these barriers but 19:55 this week feels so much better than just the 15 secs to 20:10 last week. Well done on your HM yesterday. We were actually quite close as the crow flies although with the wind might not have been as straight as normal.
Happy birthday Tim and very decent effort yesterday - surely a confidence booster. I've seen Mayock's name pop up on parkrun results and often wondered if it was him i.e. from 90s/00s athletics. Good to see he's still running well.
Yes it was thanks and I did wonder myself about John Mayock until saw him in Nick Bester's London Marathon video earlier this year that I showed a clip of.
Thanks. Sadly though far from trouble free but an element of managing the discomfort and being careful to have more days off than I normally like to. For 5K I can just about get away with it.
Thanks! It seems trying to "race" myself fitter is having some effect. It usually about getting used to a higher pace than what been able to manage and at least with 5Ks you can do them a lot more often than say marathons and still feel can try hard.
@TimGrose no chance of that with my son's sudden interest in parkrun, he's particularly nocturnal-but we have managed to get our local by 9am just for the last few weeks to his credit
@@alfdickinson1971 I am usually the same but something quite nice about having done a hard run and a warm down all by about 10am. I never get up early to run unless it is a race/parkrun.
@@SagasuRunning parkrun is increasingly less about traditional clubs but the front of them are mainly club runners. I have observed a fair number of decent runners who now only do parkrun. It can be quite obsessive. Games like position and seconds bingo and alphabet for different venues. No Z in the UK though and don’t think there is an X anywhere.
I realised I managed a clip of Nick without actually seeing him! Was also thinking like MARM & you be good to “win” one again which not done since 2019. TBF I never would have done so only running 19:55 on a fast ish course like this.
I grew up in South Yorkshire where John Mayock & Jon Brown (Olympic Marathon runner) used to dominate the age category older than me. I also witnessed some of the sessions John did with Peter Elliott at Rotherham in the early 90s, they were brutal.
Thanks and yes handy to everything in a fairly small space. I do wonder though if it would struggle if gets much past 300 runners it normally seems to get because mainly as the car park is quite small and then I guess have to find a nearby side street. As it was, it was full up when I left and somebody was waiting to get my space.
Sub-20 done 👊. Wish I could be at Battersea with you but all the best for that event. Scope to go quicker for you but as you know it’s all about the pacing. All the best
@@sagsdothedu yeah and I always go off too hard at those Battersea masters races probably because I still think like I did when could run way faster and should be getting to the front. Last 3 weeks has shown a more even pace with something with a slight pick up at the end feels a lot better! You would think I would know this after now over 40 years of racing :)
Good to see you having a decent run again, Tim. I'm also having Achilles problems so haven't managed a sub 20 parkrun for a few months. I'll be interested to find out how you get on with an Insta360, it's been suggested to me too. 😊
Yeah I fejt I had to “contrive” a video around my parkrun due to so little footage. I am not normally keen on wearing any type of hat (unless raining) though so will see if might work on my chest
@@misterbelll wow good to hear of others with the exact same birthday. What is her name? Am sure my Mum will be interested. I recall she said it was quite cold back in 1966 and some snow about. Guess no different now although none done here in London/Surrey border where I am.
Good to see you're good with being You:) Will be interesting how you get on with the Insta 360. Always been curious about that camera, mostly because of the miniscule form factor.
@@robin29991 yeah I had to “transition” into a slightly different narrative as figured more footage but me doing say a 20:01 would have had me a lot more down beat. Keen to see what I can do with the Insta 360 3S and having essentially a lot more relevant footage gives voice over potential. I just don’t normally like wearing hats so will try if can still work say on my chest although Andy says bounces around too much.
I remembered it at the time but John Broom reminded me and thought would be one angle to make up for lack of actual run footage. Sub 19 might be a stretch but I was sub 18 end of 2019 so hope for me yet although think might need my final "sprint" for the whole way for that pace.
Those 3 turn arounds on grass definitely would slow you down a bit. Nice to see you've managed to protect your fitness this year given all the injury setbacks.
Yeah that thought did occur when I was saw 3:55 first K then a 4:03 and as the 2nd K included the tree. At least it was not a dead turn and anyway parkrun is not a "race" :)
If you're going for a consistent streak of sub 20 parkruns I would advise maybe finding a flat coastal out and back course. I have heard they're pretty good for pushing your limits over consecutive weekends 🤣👍 Great running Tim. 😎🤘
Hi Tim Running did exist before the Power 10 😂 None of my times from the 1980s and 1990s are on Power 10 as I can’t be that arsed to gather evidence from 30 years ago. JM was a class act of the time 🎉 Well done on sub 20 .
If say you were better than about 1:52/3:50 and so UK national top 100 level, those times should be in British Athletics annuals. I have most of them back to at least mid 70s and long before Power of 10 I contributed to it which is largely why got times to that level back to about 1989 so we ought to have most of John Mayock's best times. If you were to that level, I can have a look although bit hard to get those books right now due to building works!
I have never experianced a park run (though I registered a few years ago) , never run a 5k and have only raced a 10k twice (local Chorley race.. A fun race but not for people chasing PB's) , so its always fun to see these park runs , especially with great middle distance runners of the 90's/'00's.
Ah so you do only race long distances? As my friend Phil says with short races, they are over quicker and I feel you can string some back to back and actually try and race yourself fitter which I think I have done last 3 weeks and one more to go.
You'll find the Insta a game changer for race footage. John Mayock has life membership of Barnsley AC due to being an Olympian. For a bonus point can you name Barnsley's Olympic rumning medalist?

@TimGrose great, look forward to seeing the stats. I haven't done a massive amount of different parkruns, 17 maybe, but quickest was hove Prom and slowest courses bevendean down and drumchapel up in Scotland
