DIY Arduino Rain Gauge - Measure RAIN with Arduino

  • In this video we will build a rain gauge with Arduino. A rain gauge is an instrument that measures the amount of rain that falls in mm of height. The rain gauge consists of a funnel that collects rain and a piece with two "spoons" that goes back and forth when a certain amount of water passes through. This movement is detected by a Hall effect sensor (or magnetic sensor) connected to an Arduino.

    Nice work! Just wondering if we measure water height of a cylinder by a liquid level indicator would be any benefit? After some research I got this information, your design is good at lighter rain and floater type is only good for heavier rain.

      You can do that, no problem, but your problem will then be to empty the cylinder every time it fills up
