205th street in the bronx off of the grand concourse. We didn't need no stinkin hangers we had Mikey Muller who was a small guy and we would hold his feet and he would fish them out of the sewer. Best part sometimes we made out like bandits and had like a 3 to 5 ball take. The sewer balls everyone knew because 1/2 the ball would be a lot lighter pink because of the sewer water and we called them sewer balls. What a great childhood, we must had had 15-20 different games we made up to play. examples king queen, off the stoop. 1st and 3rd, stickball, off the point, off the wall, errors, flys are up. etc. This video got my juices flowing and I wouldn't change that childhood for all the money in the world. I am talking early 60' to 70's
Spaldeen - a new release on Amazon by an author I’ve been following for a couple of years. My dad used to tell me about the little ball he played stickball with in the Brooklyn neighborhood where he grew up. …A novel approach to storytelling, but I enjoyed it and flipped my copy to my dad. I think he’ll like it.
Growing up on West 90th Street of Manhattan during the 60's, the neighborhood kids played many a stickball game with a "Spaldeen"...Handball and stoopball, too...
let me add. besides stick ball.. i t was a great handball... if the ball broke in half you could still play stick ball with one of the halfs.. best stick ball field in the city... 164st and 65th ave in queens playground
"When Every Day Was A Ball" 🙋♂️🧏♀️ With just a simple rubber ball/🟣 That cost twenty five🪙 cents/ We'd entertain ourselves all day/🫅 Fun the sole consequence😃 We'd start with a "Good🍲 Morning"/ Games we would🎩then create/ ⚠️On🚙 asphalt, grass,🌱dirt or cement,/ That pink sphere carried weight❗️ 'Twas🌤 summer camp for anyone/ It set childhood days free/ Just one Spaldeen bought good👍 clean fun/ So fortunate were we❗️🍀

Great piece! Are you the author of this poem?
@@stickballstreetplay Thanks. Indeed I am, and ,as I'm sure you know, it's completely based on our once fortunate reality!
