Just a little off. It's "and through the rust". "The last breath is spoken." and "through the wires." Could always be wrong but that's how I hear it.
Xin n I was going to make a comment pointing out the exact same things you hear. Now of course I could be wrong as well, but I have good hearing, a vast vocabulary, and a very high quality headset so it's not often I mishear lyrics. Would be nice if Bret would release a lyric video version that he provided the lyrics himself.

I've said it on the FiXT version, and I'll say it here again.
The melodies and that 'ahh' mixed into the final chorus at the end of the song. I dunno why, but it's just so frigging awesome to listen to. Definitely the most memorable part of what was already a killer song.
