Real gamers BUY games and casuals only buy a few. Gaming is not like TV. Gamepass was never going to be the standard no matter how much broke fanboys wanted.
I’m a real gamer, I have about 900 or more digital games on PlayStation from over the years and 220 platinum trophies, but I still like Xbox much more, specifically game pass ultimate. I don’t have to keep buying games at full price like you do on PlayStation, I’ve been playing Indiana Jones basically for free, same thing with call of duty, Black ops six and a lot more big AAA games coming out. You can even use your Microsoft rewards points to pay for the subscription itself like I have for a few years. PlayStation is just overpriced.
Its a glorified rental service. Physical media has some drawbacks too. but thats still the superior way to play and own your games. Im happy this happend. Great news.
It also didn't help that Phil Spencer killed exclusive games. Started with Scalebound. And then he hyped up crap games like CrackDown 3 and Sea of Thieves. He killed alot of trust for XBox gamers. It's time for Microsoft to end hardware and go strictly software. They don't have what it takes to be in a console market anymore.
@Adamtendo_player_1 Agreed. But the reason why the 360 was their best console was because they had Peter Moore at the helm. Dude fought crazy to help the XBox brand be a major player with exclusive games and getting heavy hitters like GTAIV on the console day and date with the PS3. He as the only one that actually took the fight to Sony and was winning....until they quickly abandoned the platform in favor of the XBox One and we all know how that turned out....lol
Nothing is changing. You still have to buy gamepass games if you are on PlayStation. Also, Sony put MLB the show on gamepass for the last 4 years. ($280 saved). Sony likes gamepass money
@ps5blows317 playstation isn't short sighted enough to do something as damaging and stupid as gamepass. It helped kill xbox yet all xbox fans don't appear to have the intelligence to understand that, either that or dumb pride prevents them admitting it

The last 30 games I bought in under 2 years time maybe less were all for PS5 because Xbox went gamepass and pushing digital I will not support not owning what I paid for
@@bradleylea8460 Not currently for me. I prefer collecting physical games, so I'll do so until/if they just stop producing them. PC for me is for work and a few games that aren't on consoles, that I have no choice but to buy the digital version of.
Well, to be fair. If the new major Xbox console does allow STEAM game library, then you really wouldn't need a Playstation either. As near all Playstation 'exclusives' are timed and eventually go to PC via STEAM. So the new Xbox would have access and play these very same games. But the Playstation will get former Xbox exclusive games, so there is that.
Tell that to all the people that get to play Indiana Jones basically for free instead of paying $60 for one copy. Same thing with call of duty Black ops six, I did not have to pay $75 on game pass like you do on PlayStation five.
@@Johnny_Ohioyou don't even see that gamepass isn't helping xbox become a better platform its only teaching its subscribers to NOT buy games, meanwhile people with actual money and don't mind spending it will buy games on playstation
@@JaiRoccasGaming I own 900 digital games on PlayStation, I bought all the big games on PlayStation over the years, the god of war, all the uncharted, Detroit become human the last of us and so many more. I even have 220 platinum trophies. But that shit gets expensive on PlayStation, I would much rather rent my games for $20 a month or less on game pass then buy each one separate for $60. PlayStation is just overpriced and going downhill.
@ not everybody wants to buy full priced games, I’ve done that for many years on PlayStation and wasted so damn much money. Especially at 52 years old, I don’t wanna own a whole bunch of games just to sit in the cloud where 900 of them are. just like Netflix, people would rather just rent their movies on Netflix than buy a bunch of DVD movies.
DCGuy I’m going to give you the perfect example of how Gamepass affects games. Just maybe in the last week, a game called Insurgency Sandstorm a military shooter by an indie studio just got delisted from Gamepass. A lot of Xbox players while it was on Gamepass started playing and it had a surge of new players but now that it’s been delisted most of those same players are now angry and vowing not to buy the game even though at this point they merely have to pay 13 dollars to own it. That’s the Gamepass effect in a nutshell. When games are put on Gamepass to get more attention it’s fine but the second they are removed Gamepass subscribers abandon the game and move on to another free game and in that scenario the only one winning is MS and their first party games because they’ll never take those off Gamepass. This is why ultimately a lot of devs don’t trust MS or Gamepass to actually help them in the longrun, and in fact as with the anger towards MS for removing the game is showing the whole Gamepass thing can backfire on the Devs.
Gamepass was never a good deal. You buy the expensive part, the console and lease the cheap part, the games. All the good games on gamepass are $20 to buy but you can get them for $2.99 on a steam sale. Then you own it forever. No need to buy it again with the next console because it's a PC.
Xbots were calling us Blockbuster while they thought they were Netflix. Little did they know, the game of economics is about “being the first to arrive”. Nowadays, subscriptions are HATED!
Is it really fine? They only do 'well' because of the acquisition that was paid with money made from entire different business sector. All their big releases are average quality at best, with Indy maybe as an exception
I knew Gamepass was done when a lot people were asking when Baldur’s Gate 3 would be added. That’s the core base of GP: people that don’t buy games. They buy subscriptions instead. It’s like those people that buy ‘Best of’ music albums… you know who you are lol
Microsoft has been trying to get rid of the Xbox brand since the Xbox 360 era ended. This is not new news. Microsoft has been struggling with the Xbox brand for quite some time.
I have never rented a game in my life at 62 years old. I have been a avid gamer since "Pong", but I love the feeling of investing in a new game purchase, then enjoying it when time permits. I have nothing against "Game Pass" & feel it's a fair resource for gamers on a budget, etc. Most of my gamer friends prefer buying physical games as well, & even some of them have "Xbox Game Pass".
I'm 66 here and agree with everything you've said. I have thousands of dollars in video games on my shelves from the Atari 2600 to the present as I'm sure you do too. With GamePass and Digital games, after you've played, you have nothing. Kinda like Hot Wheels collectors who'd just snip out pics of the cars they'd like to collect, from a magazine.
@jimimack7298 It's wonderful & rare to see & meet another gamer my age or older! I have my own modest YT channel, but sadly haven't uploaded anything in a while due to unfortunate health issues.
I know I don't speak for everyone but I certainly don't appreciate games when they are free. I've paid for game pass for the last 3 months and I've only played call of duty campaign on it and nothing else. I've been paying for playstation plus since it released on the PS3 and I can count on my nutsack how many of the free games I've played, and I've redeemed them all.
Xbox is an example of an American hyper-capitalist approach to competition. Instead of making a good product (which requires taking care of workers) they monopolize the market. This strategy won't work because there was no to have a military/cia intervention. lol
If Sega could rise again by making console with the next-gen console system, then it would certainly be the toughest competitor for Sony and Nintendo. I really miss Sega making console again, but... yeah, I know that it won't be possible 😥😭😭
Gamepass is the main reason why most devs stay away from xbox and Lamepass shills dont even recognize it.. Rockstar laughed at xbox for assuming they could write Rockstar a check to get GTA6 on gamepass day one 🤣🤣 Nope xbots it's not going to gamepass YOU GOTTA BUY IT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY IT 😬 now go cope and seeth and punch at the air
That’s the big reason why I went over to Xbox and enjoying the hell out of game pass, I don’t have to pay $75 for call of duty like people do on PlayStation or Indiana Jones or any of the other big AAA games coming to game pass day one.
@ I probably spent $20,000 or more buying games on PlayStation over the years, that’s more money than I ever want to put into buying games. I would much rather save money and rent the games. If Xbox or even PlayStation ever goes out of business worst case scenario, I just watch Netflix or movie streaming services through my TV. i’m getting older now where I don’t care about games like I used to back when I was in my 20s.

Just to counter this weeks usual "xbox is dead" video with actual facts about Xbox and Game Pass.. Based on relessed Xbox revenue reports last year was £21bn to PlayStation's £27bn (Nintendo was £12bn), that's a 30% difference in revenue. When you factor in hardware sales from that revenue which is next to no profit at all, the overall revenue from games and services are near the same for xbox and PlayStation. Meaning, whilst Sony has twice the userbase (more if you include those still on last gen), per person it's actually on Xbox where people spend more money on games and services. Instantly debunking that Xbox is in trouble, or Xbox player's dont buy games because of Game Pass. If anything its PlayStation with the issue because hardware sales aren't resulting in software sales. Game Pass last year made £4.5bn, Xbox confirmed £1bn of that is paid for 3rd party games. Leaving £3.5bn in revenue. In order for xbox to earn that same £3.5bn from selling first party games they need to release 4-5 AAA games each selling 10m copies a year. Sony barely does this each gen, and Sonys overall profits on playstation (which is 4%) is also lower than the profit Xbox is making with Game Pass alone. Xbox making this kind of guarenteed money means they don't need to rely on hoping they sell first party games when Game Pass guarentees that money. Xbox is far from dead, they just don't need to rely on hardware to get people into their ecosystem like Sony does, and Game Pass model is perfectly sustainable and profitable.
It still makes sense. If Microsoft is moving to be a publisher, there is no need for a XBox division, but rather a Microsoft Games one. No hardware required.
I renewed in July last year just before the new changes went active. Only able to stack 13 months, price increase etc. If you got 3 years of gold or core as it became you could upgrade using 1 month of ultimate and it converted to 2 years worth of ultimate. If correct that's not possible anymore, or it's not worth it as you can only get 13 months of core which would give 3-4 months of ultimate. Cheaper judt buying monthly instead at £10.99 or whatever the new price will be.
GP doesn't make sense for most people. It's cheaper to buy games on sale. Or most players play the same thing for months at a time. Just buy it, don't sub for it. We just don't consume games the same way as movies/tv. Games are much longer and require more time investment. GP doesn't make sense for AAA devs. It eats into their profits just to get a lump sum up front. Great for indie devs to get a guaranteed pay check, but that is subsidized by AAA losses (mostly MS studio losses).
It’s a shame as the Series X is a great piece of kit but after two years it was clear I was wasting my time glad I sold It when I did doesn’t sound like anything will improve
Dude Satya even stated in the interview that the main leader of this ecosystem is the Xbox console because it's the main distributor for gamepass obviously 🙄
@@ShadowWolfQc don’t believe Microsoft if you want, but believe numbers. Look it up for yourself, there’s a website that displays the amount of gamepass subscriptions and it details what percentage is on console and PC. And BOOM! Majority was from Xbox consoles. Who’s the fool again?
Yeah some people seem to like game pass because it’s a low monthly price and it has a lot of games to play. Microsoft seeing that gamepass isn’t doing well because they have to realize that a lot of people actually prefer own and buying physical games. Game pass is just renting games and those games don’t even be there for that long on game pass
I feel like the largest benefit of a service like Game pass would be what blockbuster of yore once offered us, a way to try specific games without having to fully purchase it. I've heard that Steam does give refunds under very specific conditions, but those are the same conditions I had with blockbuster, when I was able to say rent several PS3 and Wii games back then, and this is when both systems released, and if I found a game that was horrible, which was common during the early days of both of these systems, there was no commitment, I just returned it after a week, and I could play it for as many hours as I pleased, and even beat the game, and blockbuster didn't care. That is where a service like this can thrive. And as a Linux PC gamer, I find services like the EA Pass useful to test compatibility before say purchasing a game that just won't play, or has too many issues due to the Windows compatibility layer. If done right, these services can work.
Console gaming in general is in the mud. PlayStation can’t even afford exclusives anymore. They all go to PC really quickly now. Microsoft putting their games everywhere and making more money is a smart business move. I own all the consoles and honestly the only ones who still have exclusives and recoup the costs back are Nintendo. They know how to make incredible games on less of a budget.
He's correct game pass is a lose lose tbh ...u don't own the games and the company doesn't profit if you're only paying $1 for access ... For it to be beneficial to them they'd need it to be adopted by majority of gamers
Xbox stopped making good games an started giving away mediocre games...and that's why sony is loved so much people will buy a super expensive unnecessary console. When you make great games you control the market. Period
Whats soo curious about the Xbox situation is they are attempting to do 2 major changes for the gaming console market at the same time: 1. Obviously, Game Pass being 'consumer friendly'. 2. Its efforts to 'stop exclusivity'. Microsoft/Xbox perhaps is wearing themselves thin, attempting these 2 things together at the same time. Perhaps they should focus on 1 thing, than when they are happy, invest and attempt the other.
Idk how many people say oh I own a PlayStation but I still like Xbox better. I really wonder if they even have a PlayStation gamertag? Yes I own a multi pcsXbox PlayStation switch and even steam deck. To tell you the truth Xbox to me dead. They have games now but the quality of the games are no we’re on par to triple a pc PlayStation or even Nintendo game. The only game I’ve seen I can’t rate it yet because I haven’t played it is new 🆕 jones game. That might be a good game idk been burnt buying Xbox games so I’m not going to buy it now maybe after price drop I will but to the point of this is if you guys like Xbox better then pc better then PlayStation better then switch why is the question? Is it the community well they got discord on both PlayStation and xbox. You can’t tell me it’s the games because there game are now going everywhere so no need to buy a Xbox. My point is I always see these comments saying I played PlayStation but like Xbox better for what reason gamepass? I mean Xbox is dying to me died back in the 360 era. The only people who care about this is console warriors screaming about hold the line for Xbox. I got to say the line has been held for over 20 years now and Xbox still isn’t going to get back to the popularity of the 360. I know what I say make people mad but only people who care about the xbox is not kids well kids who parents loved 360 back in the day and got them one and old ass grown men acting like Xbox is still in a war with PlayStation. They aren’t people grow up or take your 💊 because your crazy thinking there ever going to come back to the 360 era.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Xbox got lucky with Xbox 360 because PlayStation fumbled with the PS3 early on, but when they got their shit together, so The showed Xbox, who was the boss.
I think there is also something to be said about ownership. Actually owning the game. A lot of people like owning the physical copy. Also giving the dev and game that you like, money so they keep developing games instead of jipping them with a small subscription fee.
Things would probably be better for them if they didn't just focus on game pass but also make physical games and not halt games unless they can work on the series s as well
The major issue is that gamepass is a huge issue I’ve been saying that for years and years movie and music and video games are different and what I mean by this is that movies make there money from the box office music artist make money from there concert ticket sales video games have sales and that’s it they need the full retail sale to make there money back you have dlc or adds and that’s it!!!
Before closing the entire division could they not try replacing the leadership? How is it Phil Spencer's still there? They were literally considering pulling the plug on the whole thing but the head of Xbox is still there? What is exasperating to me is they spent all that money on studios and ips yet seem happy to just sit on them and do nothing with them. Most notably Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
If Nintendo had a similar service, we would ALL plunk down that money. Like you said, the difference is the games, and there is nothing (besides Indiana Jones) that seems enticing on my end from Xbox. But If I got a big Nintendo release EACH MONTH (And an extensive backlog), I'm pretty sure I would never play anything else.
The concept of Game Pass could have worked IF they were able to put out content for it. The plan was a new triple A game 4-6 times a year with indies and 3rd party games filling in the gaps. If Xbox were actually able to do that, I think people would subscribe and stay subscribed. The problem is, Game Pass was just old Xbox games for years and years and years. They'd get the occasional big 3rd party games, but there just wasn't much new getting added so people gave up on it and built their libraries on Steam, Playstation, and Nintendo instead. Now it's too late. I think the brand is too badly damaged to recover. Even with all the studio acquisitions, we still go months with nothing big getting added and still have very sporadic first party releases. Remember that Xbox live stream where every game shown was going to come out in the next 12 months? Almost none of them did. That stream was like 2 years ago and we're still waiting on some of those games. Xbox has a development problem. They can't get games out the door. That problem damaged Game Pass which then damaged the entire brand. Until Microsoft fixes their development issues and is able to get games released in a timely manner, they'll continue to struggle. Then again, it's likely too late. Even if they released 6 big first party games this year, it may not help them much.
Those development issues are a hard to solve problem. Almost every AAA studio had them. The ballooning cost and development time of next gen gamrs was grossly underestimated or not even estimated at all.
Gamepass lost its original identity. I still love it. Paying a sub for 100s of games, or 75 for one, is a no-brainer. With all of the studios they have, they need to buckle down and give them the time needed to make their games good and ditch the xbox everywhere thing. No exclusives (or good ones) mean no meed for an xbox.
I love it! Especially with high speed Cloud! Its groundbreaking and works for me! Just get the best affordable thing that works for you at all times! Its evolution of the industry! In my view cross platform availability is nirvana!
I’ve still got my series S and I use it a lot. I’ve had two series X and I got rid of them because I didn’t need it. I don’t have game pass I’ve tried it. It’s not for me. I’d rather buy a game which is why I’ve now got 1086 digital games across two accounts. I don’t even have Xbox live or core anymore because most of my games are one player.
Why people still watch the xbox series s and x console sales? There is no sense for xbox consoles to be higher that ps5 in sales. And the reason is simple: PC ! When the pc owners have access to xbox store , epic games store, steam why to care to buy one more device? Only in my case: the pc I had in the end of 2020 was average/ now its outdated gave me the reason to buy a series s and a ps5.
The thing is when people speak on xbox there always talking about Microsoft and all the other parts that are Successful. from what I have witnessed its only when someone speaks on xbox they constantly state Microsoft and tab the word xbox on the end because if you focus on xbox the console anyone can see why it failed.. Have yet to see any other product statement like the community do for xbox just to stay Relevant
The sad part is Microsoft we get into Gaming. Microsoft & Games DO not = Up at all this is why giving an IP for a Game to Microsoft should be next to going to the Emergency room. Because Microsoft gets Mounts of Money but it Doesn't come from any Game.
As a console, the Xbox became irrelevant and pointless when Gamepass and releases on PC became a thing. At that point, the PC became a better Xbox turned to Ex-Box. No need for it. Nintendo will always be Nintendo-successful. Playstation has managed to keep winning despite the PS4 undermining the PS5.
I mean as a person with a gaming pc, 2 technically ones older mostly for servers, multiple handhelds including 2 steam decks 1 oled, switch, all the PlayStations, and every xbox before this generation. I have 0 interest in game pass as I want to own the game I play and don't think I will ever buy another xbox as historically i buy them for 5 games and then never touch them again. Those games are now on pc and funny coming to ps5 now.
This is like 3 years old right? i swear Gamepass is making more billions for Microsoft every year... XBox are hard to find in Europe recently too. Kojima is developing for XBox... we known this for years.... they wanted to end the XBOX brand after the Launch of the XBONE, it was Phill Spencer that "saved" xbox. He didnt manage to turn xbox around, he didnt save it, he just prolonged the death and in fact shift the death into becoming a streaming service and becoming the largest 3rd party Publisher................. but the console is dead and has been dead. turning it into a streaming service is not a bad idea... but #1 XBOX is notorious for its low output of games, #2 they are notorious for alot of flops and lackluster games #3 Very few and even fewer exciting Exclusive games #4 the internet infrastructure just isnt there for alot of people to have this type of service #5 for core games, you are forcing them to have digital rent and time limited libraries, and core gamers want to have physical copies #6 the numbers arnt and have never been there. The money needed to opperate this type of service is impossible, the subscription numbers arent there. And for devs its not worth having their games on there. this gamepass thing would have only worked if Sony Playstation was dying/failing/and losing it all. if M$ would have first defeated Sony and had it in a really bad hurt position, then gamers would have had no choice but to get on XBOX Gamepass because they would have also seen devs leaving support for Sony and getting on M$ side. But instead M$ put this out during XBOX worst era while SONY Playstation was at its best.

Its a glorified rental service. Physical media has some drawbacks too. but thats still the superior way to play and own your games. Im happy this happend. Great news.
Too late. They put all their chips into gamepass
Sea of Thieves is not crap
Xbox hasn’t been very good for 10 years and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Xbox 360 was a fluke.
Why can't people just buy their games physical or digital ? I mean, come on guys it's not rocket science! Nobody needs gamepass its trash..

Game Pass is great for indie studios. Not for the big ones.

Also remember gamers. BUY YOUR GAMES!
Lets get things right, Microsoft gaming is fine but the console will go from niche fanbase to just eventually just death

This strategy won't work because there was no to have a military/cia intervention. lol

Then why did they confirm next gen hardware?

If you got 3 years of gold or core as it became you could upgrade using 1 month of ultimate and it converted to 2 years worth of ultimate. If correct that's not possible anymore, or it's not worth it as you can only get 13 months of core which would give 3-4 months of ultimate. Cheaper judt buying monthly instead at £10.99 or whatever the new price will be.
Real gamers don’t buy an Xbox.

My problem with Gamepass, is I like owning my games instead of hoping it’s up there long enough for me to play and beat it.

If xbox wants to be in the black needs to get rid of gamepass and bring game buying back.
PlayStation is the only other one offering exclusive outside of Nintendo with their IPs like Horizon, God of War and ratchet and clank.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 Not really exclusive when they all end up on PC my dude.
Period
Compared to a quality gaming pc it's not even that expensive.

Yes I own a multi pcsXbox PlayStation switch and even steam deck. To tell you the truth Xbox to me dead. These news are old, these news are from 2021
This was years ago
The major issue is that gamepass is a huge issue I’ve been saying that for years and years movie and music and video games are different and what I mean by this is that movies make there money from the box office music artist make money from there concert ticket sales video games have sales and that’s it they need the full retail sale to make there money back you have dlc or adds and that’s it!!!
Unfortunately it didn't go your way !!
Microsoft still has the PC space. So if Xbox goes away, they still have that.
Microsoft should focus just on hardware or software but not both.
Negativity Guy is at it again.

turning it into a streaming service is not a bad idea... but #1 XBOX is notorious for its low output of games, #2 they are notorious for alot of flops and lackluster games #3 Very few and even fewer exciting Exclusive games #4 the internet infrastructure just isnt there for alot of people to have this type of service #5 for core games, you are forcing them to have digital rent and time limited libraries, and core gamers want to have physical copies #6 the numbers arnt and have never been there.
Phil just continued what Don Mattrick started. Trying to "innovate" and that stuff but their ultimate goal was, just like Bill Gates,to force Sony out of business. Fortunately and thankfully they failed
