yup, same here. Updated 13PM from 15.7.1 cause it was supposed to be "amazing". Honestly, the features are simply not worth the update, especially if you're not in US. Screen on/usage is still better than on 14/15PM, but a definitely worse than it was before
I hope there’s an update soon that will further fix this issue, I’m concerned thinking it’s just going to stay that way, in a way forcing us to upgrade. I’m trying to hold off until the 16 Ultra next year
I’ve noticed a common frustration with iPhone’s optimized battery charging feature. It’s supposed to preserve battery health by avoiding overcharging, which is great in the long run. However, it often results in my phone reaching a full charge way before I actually need it. I’m sure I’m not the only one facing this.
That's normal behavior. If in case of emergency you need your phone and are away from a power outlet all day, you'll at least have started the day at 100%. I've literally had this happen last month. My dad suffered cardiac arrest in his sleep near the end of the night, a couple of hours before my alarm was supposed to go off. We were able to save his life with CPR and we had to follow him to the hospital after he was rushed away. We ended up being away from home all day, but my phone at least started at 100% a couple of hours early so I made it through the day with no additional charge, allowing us to keep in contact with friends and family members. I know this won't ever happen to most people, but it's an example of exactly why Apple designed the feature to behave this way.
It's supposed to learn your habits over time. So if you always plug it in at 11pm and start using it at 7am, it will learn that and will stay at 80% until 6ish. The first few times you are going to do it though, it will just go straight to 100%, and if you keep unplugging it early, then it will assume you need it earlier.
It hasn’t worked at all for me since upgrading to iOS17, so I disabled all the settings that allow it to work since they consume battery on their own, and take my phone off the charger at 80% before I go to bed and put it back on when I wake up to finish charging. When I can finally upgrade to the iPhone 15, the 80% max limit is getting switched on and staying on.
@@HistoryNut-1701 Lol those settings won't consume any battery on their own. But do whatever works for you. If you're changing your entire schedule to accommodate this, my suggestion would be to just forget about it and put it on the charger whenever you want it and take it out when you need it. Doing all these optimizations might maybe give you at most one more month of extra in a 3 year lifespan, before you need to replace the battery. You decide how much of your time you want to spend for that one extra month before spending under 100 bucks on a new battery.

Under Settings -> Battery, I have been seeing "Camera" show up under the "Battery Usage by App" section even for 24-hour windows when I have not used the Camera. Right now, it is telling me I have used the Camera app for 5 minutes in the past 24 hours. Uh, no, I haven't! Has iOS 17.* added some feature that is accessing the camera?
I appreciate and love all your videos ! Yea I have back ground app refresh turned off and all push notifications for all email ( except one for work ) thanks for all you wonderful tips and tricks over the years.
iPhone X. 88% Battery Health. Running iOS 16.7.1. Yesterday, 1hr 45mins of screen on time and 19mins screen off time. I used 20-25% of my battery. Today is looking to be even better. I had weather widgets all over my Lock Screen and they were using a ton of battery. I was only getting 4-5hrs. Removing them made a huge difference.
I couldn't care less what anyone says about it, because in all my experience, immediately 'closing' applications _does_ reliably save power. I was curious, so I used my phone regularly for six months without ever 'closing' anything to determine an average baseline power usage over that time, then another six months always 'closing' everything immediately. I consistently ended the day with 5-8% more charge. Not too much, but it was very consistent, obvious, and reliably higher. This spanned iOS 15.4-15.7, so software should not have have any notable impact. I understand the thought process behind counter-claims, but I can't argue with what I saw firsthand. I would also like to mention that after I was finished with this test, I now use my phone in low power mode 100% of the time as it hasn't even sightly interfered with any of my use.
The battery on my 15PM is insane...idk what people are craying about. I wish i could post screenshots in here, i got 11hrs and 20mins of screen on time 2 days ago. My average is around 8hrs...
For notifications I keep my phone facing down this prevents screen from lighting up for notifications I have set custom notifications sounds for email, whatsapp, messages etc so I know what app is sending the notifications

recently I realizing that 15 pro battery consuming sooo fast, that didn't happen for 13/14 pro generations, over a night, its like 13-15% reduced, so strange, I even turned off the AOD, but still consumed very fast!
Dear Aaron if you ever come to Shenzhen, China please meet me :). I love your videos you makes fantastic videos about apple products.
Maybe one day!
Very useful information thanks bro
Awesome video
i have an iphone 12 and i was so scared to get this update, i got it yesterday and i'm so disappointed my battery life is so bad, i only use my phone 7 hours a day (mostly for school). and my battery goes down 1% in two minutes
Old school iPhone 13 user here. Ever since updating to iOS 17.1, I've noticed much quicker battery drain in general than with iOS 16.*.
Appreciate the video . Sort makes no sense having iPhone if you turn off all your suggestions
Right, I agree. I typically only turn off background app refresh, but this is to show you all of the different things you could do.
I appreciate and love all your videos ! Yea I have back ground app refresh turned off and all push notifications for all email ( except one for work ) thanks for all you wonderful tips and tricks over the years.
Thanks for the video, Aaron.
Can't we schedule always on display??
I can’t do it. I have a Pro Max phone and I refuse to turn down my usage

Don’t seem to have the Live Voicemail option yet in the UK
I just had a issue on my 15P max. where i get shuttersound when i take Portrait photos. but when i go to my album they are not there!
I hate auto brightness because it is sometimes for me to dark.
Wanna sort out icons missing on the watch scine update
Thank you for all your amazing videos. Do you keep your phone on dark mode all the time? Or just for videos?
It’s on auto
Thank you
I am facing battery drain issues since 17.0.3 on my iphone 13
same.
What is that app that shows the sunrise sunset
Edit: “Lumy” I saw it while you were scrolling through location services
I would also like to mention that after I was finished with this test, I now use my phone in low power mode 100% of the time as it hasn't even sightly interfered with any of my use.
my battery is great. all widgets on, location is on... usw... no problem here
I wish the limit was changeable like up to 90-95%
I keep my 15 pro max set for 80 % limit
Very helpful sir.
The battery on my 15PM is insane...idk what people are craying about. I wish i could post screenshots in here, i got 11hrs and 20mins of screen on time 2 days ago. My average is around 8hrs...
How do I set Low Power Mode to activate on 10 or 15% instead of 20%?
from automation
For notifications I keep my phone facing down this prevents screen from lighting up for notifications
I have set custom notifications sounds for email, whatsapp, messages etc so I know what app is sending the notifications
Halo! Disappointed for my iphone 14 pro max. By October 19, the phone turned 1 year old and the battery capacity was still 86%. I am using Ios 17.0.3 The battery drains quickly but when charging the device always stops charging and says the device is hot. I think it's due to recent updates.
What’s the point of having these features that apple advertises so much when you HAVE to turn them off because of serious battery drain?
yeah at that point its like whats the point
I agree. That’s why I give what Apple says and you can change them based on what you need
I literally got 13 pro max 2 weeks ago with 92% battery health and now its allready on 90% ??? wtf is goin on
Quick question, if I were to use WatchOS betas on Apple Watch, without using iOS betas, would that affect the battery health of the iPhone?
I know it will affect the watches battery health, and I am not worried about that one.
You can’t use watchOS beta without using iOS beta. It will cause problems and not connect properly.
