I don't like how they removed the stars for victory day for the current intro. The stars make it seem... patriotic... Sounds odd coming from an American.
The red star is one of the symbols of communism. After the end of the soviet era, they were considered a bit undesirable in the public media sphere for a while, and using them in the Intro of an official news program was not acceptable.

In view of the greatness of the Russian musical tradition, it is hard to imagine more boring music as an introduction to the show (before "Time Forward").
The Sviridov theme is the only one that makes me think of a proper news program theme, one that would grab the viewer's attention and prepare him/her for the day's news. The early ones sound like something suitable for a quiet tea party, and others seem like obscure national anthems.
It's amazing that News program last from Soviet Era to the Russian Federation. Время went from news in which the Soviet Politburo told those journalists what to cover and free media coverage. It was the nightly news of Russia at the time and still going on today.

Those intros from the 70s are a bit avant-garde, particularly the slightly wonky piano. They're like those weird cartoons from Czechoslovakia that were strangely popular with European TV stations. I think 84 - 86 is the most stirring. Before Gorby came along and ****ed everything up.
