      Interval signals with chimes were fairly common, especially in Communist countries, as a way to identify a radio station. East German and Cuban broadcasters also had a little bell tune played before sign-on.

      Thier not copying it, North Korea with the Soviet Union was fairly close when Korea became a free country from Japan. The Soviet Union gave them tons of stuff, and helped with the economy and during North Korea's first years and it was actually doing better than the south. Because of this, the North has a lot of things borrowed from the Soviet Union.

      No, other way around. This version has been in use for a long time but the NYC Philharmonic Orchestra used it since there aren’t many arrangements of the DPRK anthem for an entire orchestra.

    Well, don't know why but I used to receive Croatian TV for a long time, and it was like that. They had images of various places along with the radio broadcast and then it started with the anthem. Creates a sense of community and honestly I'd like much more to see something similar than news and pointless debates on Italian TV. Personally I learned a lot about Croatia geography with just that emission (some words too)

    I'm south korean but I like north korean anthem more. Ironically its lyrics are ideology-free, and constructive. I heard from north korean refugee that songs of each of Kim family are sung more often than north korean anthem.
    On the other hand, south korean anthem is composed by national traitor who gave himself to imperial japan.

      maybe the NKoreans dont watch TV earlier because they are at work/school, so why wasting energy for a broadcast which nobody watch. At the weekends and holidays the broadcast begins at 9:00.
