Wow. Cooking with fire, in the kitchen, and on the drums. Steve, your never-ending quest for knowledge and new ideas - and your joy in sharing those discoveries - is such a gigantic gift to drumming. THANK YOU!!
To get a private lesson from Steve? Ok, I'm tear'in up right here. His techniques are so freak'in smooth! This one of the greatest drummers of our time!! Thank you for posting - from all of us out here.
the ever amazing Steve Smith.. even with just a couple pieces set up in his kitchen, you can see the passion this man has for his craft.. truly inspiring.
It's amazing. I remember my older "aged" jazz teacher telling me that I, and other drummers, who spend our youth playing R&B, Rock, Funk, etc. But once we got older, in our late 30s and 40s, we would start playing Jazz. Here, Steve Smith was known for his Rock drumming with Journey, now Steve is constantly playing Jazz... Quoting Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, etc.
Smith was playing jazz and fusion way before Journey. This is a great video he made. He has amazing drum technique. Good as it gets. He's a swingin machine!
Wow its crazy you say that. I sit here all day playing drums Im 44 im not in s band i just play. And all of the sudden im finding myself swinging and comping just trying to achieve that comping independence.
Steve, you are so great both as a drummer and as a human being. An example to follow, a very loved guy in the world of drums, not only your professional peers, but all of us who love this instrument. Thank you for so much, hopefully one day you will come to Argentina, greetings!
It is a great opportunity to contemplate such a talented demonstration. Game intelligence, technicality and extraordinary feeling. I loved at 1'50 "the use of sticks as brushes. Thank you for this transmission of your" musical philosophy "and the multiple and varied exploitation of the sounds of a drum set. 👍🎶
