Is dating permissible in Islam?

What is the rule for dating? According to Sayyid Sistani, it is permissible for a man and woman to talk and even be alone in a room so long as they do not fear falling into sin. Expressing love to a non-mahram, entering a romantic relationship before marriage, or joking with a non-mahram is impermissible.
