This is a hard thing for starting actors to understand. Good acting really isn't a skill that some have and others don't, I think it's more of a state of mind, that can only be reached by practice and exposure. Take acting classes, get in uncomfortable situations, learn about people, and have experiences. For example someone who’s experienced trauma or death already has the capacity to be a great actor if they wanted, they’ve felt some of the realest, most painful, eye opening emotions any human can feel, that shit changes you. The only way to act truly realistically is to lose yourself in the scene, so you're not reciting lines from memory but rather speaking out of impulse and emotion, you begin to really mean what you say and actually form a mental connection with the character you're playing. This is where the most brilliant improv moments happen. You gotta fill in the blanks of your character, make a backstory for them even if they don't have one. It's a really fascinating process and craft
No, theres level of emotion that can only be potrayed by great, genius actor or actress, the mindset to lose yourself and act is very hard to achieve and even if you achieve that when compared to others you can see the difference between your motion, tone ,voice and subtle movement. Trust me when you compete with these kind of actors you will understand that even loosing yourself is a talent.
This makes me think of the visualization practice I’ve started. I sit for 40 minutes in a dark room and visualize myself acting out a certain scene in my mind, and try to imagine what the characters would say, and what I would say, while having a sense of the room, space, and so forth. I wonder if actors sometimes do that to practice?
i agree altho id say it depends on trauma, my trauma has made me inable to show emotion that what i was thought for my whole life don't show or talk about emotions or you're weak, im so traumatized that I don't know how to yell, I don't have the courage or ability if you told me now that i have to scream to save my life i couldn't, i also haven't sang at all in the last 4 years not even in the shower or along to a song i just cant
Confidence is key. You can be amazing in your room, but if you can’t in public, than it doesn’t matter. I’d suggest enrolling in my *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* the-actors-academy.teachable.com
Here’s some words of encouragement for you... EVERYONE feels awkward when they’re acting with other people, ESPECIALLY if it’s a dramatic scene. However, if you’re willing to do it and go over the top to portray the emotion, no one will look at you like you’re weird, they will see you as a great, risk taking actor 💅
Same!! I consider myself a very good actress but at first I was very shy to show it to the rest of my drama club, but eventually I got more comfortable and now I get compliments all the time about how talented I am in that aspect (sort of sounds like I’m bragging-low key I am jajaja just kidding) but yeah, I see you posted this a year ago and I bet you’re a lot more confident now and I bet you get compliments about how good of an actress you are now :))!!
Pretend that you’ve suddenly become the character, it’s not you so you don’t have to be embarrassed. What would your character think or say, how do they feel, what’s their backstory, mannerisms
It's for certain roles he does this and it's not all the time when he speaks. Depp mainly does this for Jack Sparrow because his character is always seemingly tipsy and is on a boat all the time so rocking back and forth is natural. I believe it's called ship legs or something? And he leans forward and backward while talking so it's a back and forth thing Good observation though!
I dreamed about acting singe I was a kid (like 6 or 7 years old) but at some point I thought "I could never be an actor. Nobody would want me" so I threw that idea away. Now I'm 15 years old and I never really stopped thinking about acting. I love the fact that for a small amount of time you can be someone different and life a different story and just let yourself be yourself. So now I I'm in a drama club in my school (we are 12 people) and we will do a theater show in 3 months. My teacher told me that she thinks that I should follow my dreams because she thinks I have the potential to become an actor. I am still not really sure that I can do it (mostly because I am not a native English speaker. I also want to be in english speaking movies.) But I want to try. I want to follow my dreams. I just feel great being on the stage while rehearsing and I know I want to keep doing it. I think the hardest thing in becoming an actor is believing in yourself. But I want to try to believe in myself.
I think Theatre and film/television is different. I think Theatre requires you to be more dramatic (it is pretty animated lol) while film/television acting is more subdued and realistic because actors tend to reflect reality in their fictional characters.
Can I ask what it is that makes you want to act? Have you ever done any acting before? The reason I ask, is because it’s hard to know you want to do something professionally if you’ve never done it before. Getting an agent would mean you would be trying to pursue it professionally, but you should try it out before you make that decision. That may be in the form of going on auditions, possibly getting something in a play or film, or taking classes. Just try it out first before you decide to do it professionally. Honestly, I’d say to sign up for my *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* ... If you decide that it’s not for you, you can return it at no charge and get your money back. I have a Christmas special going on, which is why I mention it to you the-actors-academy.teachable.com

My problem is that when I say lines (for film acting) they just sound so fake and rehearsed and I have nooo idea how to fix it! You’re not alone in this, I’ve met many actors who felt this way; which is why I created the solution in my *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* Our goal should always be to portray ourselves believably, whether that be on stage or on film. When actors begin their career, they don’t always consider both spectrums. It can end up being a ha it for some to always bring their stage work to film or their film to stage. That’s the truth to it man. It’s a very hard an tough business. That’s why I always suggest actors pursue it along with something else. My biggest suggestion is pursuing acting while attending a university. That way whether or not you make it in for years as an actor, you will have earned a degree in that time. Lots of pros and cons to weigh when wanting to become an actor. *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* the-actors-academy.teachable.com
I plan on majoring in musical arts and minoring in education, that way if all else fails, I can fall back into becoming an instructor of some sort who can still work with the arts whilst helping others pursue them as well
Recall last time you were sad, then recall a scene from a movie or show where someone died or was very emotional, now try to becoms the brain's state of the character at that very moment..... Them you'll probably get some goosebumps but you are ready to go.👍
The aim to portray the character like a real person. If you do something that you wouldn't do normally, it's probably not natural unless it's characteristic to your character.
This is a topic that usually in the end comes down to personal opinion (type of role, Actors in the project, whether or not the story resonates, etc.) these all have an effect on our decision. In general we have a consensus on who we deem to be great, but there would be others who will not agree with that consensus. So it comes down to this. Find which actors are talked about in this manner of being great (Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper, and so on). Preferably sticking with your own gender is best. Watch their films and find who resonates with you. You’re picking these big Actors because you *know* their good, so it’ll then come down to your personal opinion. Once you find which acting style/actor you prefer continue watching them and use them as your own models. Hope this helps/makes sense, let me know if you have any other questions :) *The Actors Academy*
Id say i am an adequate actor who can play with a good amount of conviction. Also, I think i have a style, i have certain mannerisms, expressions and characteristics that i integrate into my roles. Though, i am afraid this style will lead to all of my character coming off as the same.
I do Tik Tok and i noticed that alot of them do that and so do I .I have to keep doing the video over and over again .This really me helps thanks for sharing 🔥🔥💯
Whenever I tried out for a tv commercial I tried my best with the reading,I was able to remember word for word but realized my voice grew silent when I annunciated my lines, due to that I kept cutting myself off bc I wasn't happy with it, I watched this video and took into account that most of these points are exactly what I was lacking in.realizing I knew my roll and lines but I need to learn from these moments is that has broadening horizons
Yes, so the voice thing was kind of something I was struggling with. I worked a lot on my voice and making it more like up and down and less one level. So that was a big struggle for me learning how to just make my voice sound natural. I didn’t notice it myself. Someone had to put it out to me, which was really funny and weird.
Thank you for the tips buddy. They all seem like very easy pitfalls to find yourself falling in without realising and it helps to be aware of this, so once again thank you.
One big unrealistic thing (especially in theatre) is walking around while talking, like many steps back and forth back and forth. Still find myself doing it sometimes
My theater teacher always told me abt this she would call it "dancing" meaning your walking back n forth with your feet as your talking on stage making it look like your nervous or something
I tried my first little bit of acting the other night and I thought I was delivering my lines just as I would in real life. Boy was I wrong. It was terrible. It sounded like I was just reading the words off the script. Cringe worthy.
Good on ya. You took a brave step and more importantly got vakuabe feedback. Well done it'll be better next time and the next time and so on. Keep it up! Well done 👏

@@rosalindamenoza6833 shoot I don’t consider myself experienced enough to be giving tips😂 but just being prepared by studying your lines is so helpful. I’ve been in a few films and I can tell you my first one I went in with little knowledge of my lines and I was terrible at my delivery cause I was to focused on what I had to say. But my most recent project I knew my lines and it made my acting so much better cause then I could just focus on my acting
I really want to start acting, and I've done it before (unprofessionally) and I want to continue professionally. The problem is, my parents, don't want me to. How do I convince them to let me get an agent, or even go on the casting call website?
why do I feel like realism has to more with getting into character and treating it like you are that character reacting to everything around you rather than knowing ur acting and focusing on things for realism
every single word you say is gold and true! :) I wish we would have actors in austria and germany(maybe in whole europe) that would listen to this! I hear a lot of common things that you read in stanislawski's book about acting in general. You always have to know what you say and do and it must be logical for oneself. And that is really not easy. I also agree with the mirrowing gestures, thats what I also do. I think this is one of the rare videos that really give a good helpful advice
When I try practicing monologues and such, I LITERALLY CANT get my voice to have waves and movement. Its so difficult my voice is so dull. I try voice exercises and just talking to family and friends. Do you have any tips?

Lots of pros and cons to weigh when wanting to become an actor.

I plan on majoring in musical arts and minoring in education, that way if all else fails, I can fall back into becoming an instructor of some sort who can still work with the arts whilst helping others pursue them as well

I think I was really born with the gift of acting I can feel at my young age
My problem is acting sad roles. Any tips?
Papphase pay attention to your body, your shoulders must be lower, your eyes should be looking down
I found that the most heartache you go through in life, it becomes easier and easier naturally.
Recall last time you were sad, then recall a scene from a movie or show where someone died or was very emotional, now try to becoms the brain's state of the character at that very moment..... Them you'll probably get some goosebumps but you are ready to go.👍
That's funny my problem is acting happy roles lol
@@karunasharma8315 yes!
Damn really made me think Benedict Cumberbatch was the one talking about it 😂
So basically I just have to stop being unrealistic, Thankyou

I’m not actress and I don’t even know why I’m here but this is so good.
The aim to portray the character like a real person. If you do something that you wouldn't do normally, it's probably not natural unless it's characteristic to your character.
Tip:
Act along with music.
"You got to relax your hands"
Crying in Italian.
Excellent video. I am curious about suggestions that involve good actors and bad actors, and of films that include either or both.
Hope this helps/makes sense, let me know if you have any other questions :)

Id say i am an adequate actor who can play with a good amount of conviction. Also, I think i have a style, i have certain mannerisms, expressions and characteristics that i integrate into my roles. Though, i am afraid this style will lead to all of my character coming off as the same.

Different conversations bring about different tone and feelings..
I have an audition for Disney today so I looked up how to act and found this video and it was really helpful so hopefully I get a good role
How were you able to fix it? I have a monotone voice as well.
this video really helped me! thANK you, my acting has improved tremendously.

@@laylahttps1542 yea mine calls it stomping out the energy because the words u say lose themselves and meaning/energy with the walk.
Nice video!!! Thank you. This will definitely improve my acting
:)
thanks for existing sir you are doing great
I tried my first little bit of acting the other night and I thought I was delivering my lines just as I would in real life. Boy was I wrong. It was terrible. It sounded like I was just reading the words off the script. Cringe worthy.
Good on ya. You took a brave step and more importantly got vakuabe feedback. Well done it'll be better next time and the next time and so on. Keep it up! Well done 👏
I got a first degree honours in acting... But I still clicked the video to see what's up...

Knowing your lines makes a world of difference. You can focus on your acting instead of worrying what you have to say
@@rosannamenoza2337 well yeah there are definitely moments of “what’s my line again” speaking from experience 😂
@@teddy_westside81 I have seen that alot do u have a good tip on acting scripts that u weren't given enough time on?
I love acting but I feel like I’m awful at it and I want to improve and I’d love to do it professionally
why do I feel like realism has to more with getting into character and treating it like you are that character reacting to everything around you rather than knowing ur acting and focusing on things for realism
Thank you very much, I do drama classes in school and advertising on tv so this was a huuuuge help 👌 Thank You 🙏

I like the fact that this video is not unrealistic.
I hope I can be an actress one day☀🥺
What I try do is pretend that I’m in that situation in real life and how would I react. How do I feel about the person I’m talking to
That was so helpful man, thanks 💙
Im a little girl and i love acting thank you it helps me so much.
every single word you say is gold and true!
