  • Joining Dr Louise on this week’s podcast are US-based Kristin Johnson and Maria Claps, authors of new book The Great Menopause Myth: The Truth on Mastering Midlife Hormonal Mayhem, Beating Uncomfortable Symptoms, and Aging to Thrive.
Kristin and Maria share their own menopause stories, why they wanted to write a book to help others and why menopause can be the best time of your life.
The pair also share the four things, besides hormones, that can help women during this time:
    1. Education
    2. Exercise
    3. Nourishing your body with the right foods
    4. Managing stress

I did not have hot flushes or night sweats, either, but 20 other horrible symptoms.... At 52 I had no clue what PERImenopause was. I thought I was always athletic, slim, non-smoker, non-drinker and well-informed, but I was just desperate because everything hurt and I could not sleep anymore. In a very demanding job I almost gave up.... but then I found Dr Newson and she saved my life with her information. I am so so so thankful to her. She is my hero....💕

With hormone therapy being something that many of us have to strongly advocate for and many of us paying for out of pocket, it's going to be a tremendous burden on lower income women who already have many stressors. We will need to unite to help ALL women and put a safety net under those who don't have financial means to have optimal health through these hormonal changes. Love what you all are saying and I will definitely be a voice so the younger women don't have as many struggles (I'm almost 60 and just started hormones 2 months ago). Balanced hormones have changed my world! 💥

I try to spread the word to anyone who cares to listen. Let us become "an army of women"... 💪 Best wishes from Germany 🇩🇪

      Hallo Nicole,

@@joycehennequin8469 Thank you so much for your lovely words of support. The Progesterone really helps me fall asleep and even though I still sometimes wake up quite early I am so much better rested... Brain fog was so severe, also put things in the fridge that did not belong there, constantly searching for things, words, names. Wanted to get a dementia test. Now have my brain back (managed to get even a small dose of testosterone- but that was a struggle to get it prescribed)! Such a shame we are left alone and failed by most of the medical system in these difficult times! It takes quite some time, determination and tweaking of routes and dosages. I studied so many podcasts (and had to find my way through often conflicting information) and had to become an expert myself... but the quality of life I got back was worth the struggle...♀️

Menopause is a disease even if its etiology is “natural” the symptoms are real and most women are suffering & need help.

Menopause isn't a disease. It's a hormone deficiency. Just because there are symptoms, that doesn't mean it's a disease. Words matter.

Hi Louise, why is progesterone available OTC whereas Estradiol & testosterone are highly restricted by prescription only and most doctors are unwilling to prescribe them even if the patient desperately needs them?
