I have seen so much musical theatre and I have realized you can have the best voice in the world but if you don’t have enunciation it really doesn’t matter. The fact that I can understand EVERY single word she says is just incredible to me.
I think that you have just explained why we are going to see a LOT of Broadway Musical stars KILLING it with rap performances. Take a look (listen) to Katherine of Aragon's song, "No Way," in "Six."
Just mind blowing and heart wrenching. And it’s not just her amazing voice and perfect enunciation it’s the subtle nuances of her performance where she conveys so much in her eyes. We the audience can feel the torment, the longing, the confusion, the pain, the mix of joy and anguish all of this conveyed with perfection by the amazing Renee. She is a theater goddess.
One thing in the performance that I like that I haven't heard anyone mention is when Eliza kisses her on the cheek. She continues singing "...she'll be happy as his bride..." with that distraught look on her face and it gives that sense that she's a million miles away. These thoughts are running through her mind while she's at the wedding, probably just zoned out and going through the motions enough where people don't even notice her pain.
Maybe it's not perfect, but when she goes up there for "to your union" at the end, I always get goosebumps. Not to mention that there are lines in this song I can barely say without tripping over my tongue much less consider singing...she's flat out majestic.
This scene, from the very first time I saw it, struck me as the perfect storm. Amazing vocals, excellent songwriting, and fantastic choreography\blocking all work together to make this song so powerful.
The choreography, the lighting, and the whole essence of this song is just a masterclass in musical theater!! 🎭 🤩 😍 Lin Manuel Miranda is able to do SO much through so little, simple genius!! ♥️
I watched the Hamilton stage performance movie, and Satisfied was the point at which I knew that this was more than a good show, it was something that was going to influence an entire generation of theater hopefuls.
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this, and only just now noticed that right before Alexander goes to talk to Angelica he pushes Lafayette out of the way 😂
Those were "all of the soldier boys tripping over themselves to win our praise". Also love how (at 4:21) when Angelica says "now that is why I introduce him to Eliza"...Alexander is facing Angelica and all of the soldiers then turn him to face Eliza.
July 2020 I was blown away by Hamilton on Disney+. 1 year later I loved MDP's reaction. Probably the most accurate description of the song. Nov 2022 I finally went to NYC and watched to show 2 times in one week (omg dreams do come true). I was worried if they could deliver this song fully, and I have to say they delivered. My hat off to them. But Renée's version is timeless. The way she raises her glass and sings in the end gets me every time.
This song is a forever classic! Edited to add: I watched the entire first run through with a smile on my face and tears streaming almost from her first note. As if I haven't heard this song 100 times. Such a powerhouse
My daughter loves this! We just watched it again tonight. It’s also a go-to soundtrack for her and she is 9 lol. She loves trying to belt out this song. Also, I think this song is brilliant…with the gift of being able to rewatch this show, you see the details of this rewind.
The song was one of the best from the cast album, IMO, long before I saw what happens physically. It’s the song writing, the music and the vocal performance that makes it stand out, aside from the clever staging.
Love watching you react to these Hamilton songs again, Marc! I pay for Disney+ every month just to watch it whenever I want to. I realize this song is outside of reality, but what do you think she is regretting about that night? That she didn't try to keep him for herself, or that she introduced him to Eliza, who was then ultimately devastated by his infidelity? I know there's no real answer, I just think about it. 🙂
@@charlottecunningham2141Agreed. Though he may not have even done so if he had he married her. Not that he didnt love Eliza; but in many ways it feels he and Angelica were a true soul match.

Marc, have you seen Knox Hill break down Hamilton? He is a rapper, history buff, and listens to the tracks for the first time over three live streams. Obviously, he was blown away. I would highly recommend!
All rap isn’t fast. Under the umbrella of rap is a large array of styles and types. The rap in this show fits the themes very well with lots of call backs to classic rap songs. Great job all around!
If you see all my comments you’ll notice how I just discovered your channel and have been watching video after video. I’m also listening out of order. I’ve now heard you say your patreon has over 100 reactions, then over 200, and on this one 250…
I remember watching an interview with Daveed Diggs where he said he's actually rapped faster than "Guns & Ships." That blew my mind. (I'm not too familiar with rap.) But, the enunciation in this song was fantastic!
For the same reason, Satisfied is both the best and most frustrating song in the show. The real Angelica was likely the complete opposite to the way she’s depicted in this song. She eloped because she didn’t think her father would approve of her marriage. So it’s frustrating that as one of the only two female leads in this show, she’s given a well-worn “unrequited love because of Society” trope. But the song and performance is also just undeniable. The rest of ‘Hamilton’ very often feels bogged down by the “it’s a History Lesson” vibe and there’s something so freeing about Lin putting it aside for a bit and focusing on telling a good story.
Love the video but one correction: Renee did not stay with the show for years after everyone else left. The entire original cast left between April 2016 & December 2016. The first to leave was Jonathan Groff & the last was Oak Onaodowan. *Renee left in September 2016.*
Please react to songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies. Songs like - * Till I Hear You Sing * Beneath A Moonless Sky * Once Upon Another Time * The Beauty Underneath * The Phantom Confronts Christine * Devil Take The Hindmost * Love Never Dies * Ah, Christine
The production team should have retired the play for at least 10 years after the last original actor, just to put some distance from the original to current.
I think that everyone is great! Cudos to Lin-Manuel to include the women in this kind of story, which is usually told from the main protagonist’s perspective, and therefore add another level to this musical. And yes, the actresses delivered on point.
I have seen so much musical theatre and I have realized you can have the best voice in the world but if you don’t have enunciation it really doesn’t matter. The fact that I can understand EVERY single word she says is just incredible to me.

Hands down one of the greatest songs and performances of the 21st century… What a gift for Renée to be immortalized in such an iconic way. WOW

I still get chills when I hear this song. So beautiful and sad.

I was to. I knew I would never see it live, and had loved the music when the soundtrack was released years before.
This was an amazing performance! Renee Elise Goldsberry was amazing AnD then she did Its Quiet Uptown. She’s great!
She gave every word justice! ❤I fell in love with words hearing her sing.
She ATE this. It's ridiculous 🤭😂
This song is a forever classic! Edited to add: I watched the entire first run through with a smile on my face and tears streaming almost from her first note. As if I haven't heard this song 100 times. Such a powerhouse
For some reason I hear the voice of Jasmine Cephas Jones over the rest of the cast in this song and this song only 😅 she has such an angelic tone ❤
She’s f-ing amazing. Amazing.
Even after watching nearly 100 times I still get chills at the opening of this song.

Perhaps she regretted introducing him to Eliza, but I seriously feel that she wouldn’t have tolerated Alexander cheating on her like he did to Eliza

Like a dream that you can't quite place
But Alexander, I'll never forget the first time I saw your face
I have never been the same
Intelligent eyes in a hunger-pang frame
And when you said "Hi, " I forgot my dang name
Set my heart aflame, ev'ry part aflame
This is not a game
You strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied
I'm sure I don't know what you mean
You forget yourself

Nice going Angelica, he was right, you will never be satisfied
Thank you for all your service
If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it
I'll leave you to it
I know my sister like I know my own mind
You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind
If I tell her that I love him she'd be silently resigned
He'd be mine
She would say "I'm fine", she'd be lying
But when I fantasize at night, it's Alexander's eyes
