    This seems like the sort of product that you'd see on an infomercial, with an Esteban style pitch man telling you how it's a great gift idea for your grandkids for 3 easy payments of $49.99. Sending this out to actual guitar players with strong opinions was always going to be the wrong plan for a product like this. And thinking that the threatening emails weren't going to get out is pro level ignorance.

      Esteban has integrity compared to this product's marketing; sure it's cheese but you are not being deceived, it's openly cheesy, they embrace the cheesiness and maybe even celebrate it a little. And that's okay.

    i hate the whole mindset of “learning an instrument sucks, our product helps u skip that as much as possible” that people use as a marketing thing. i learned several instruments when i was younger playing in orchestras and now i started self teaching bass this year and the process of getting the hang of it is some of the best feeling stuff. of course it’s not easy but there’s this wonderful sensation of each time i pick up an instrument feeling more confident and better sounding that time than i did before and i think skipping that, aside from just not being how learning works, would make it a worse experience.

      Probably the same kind of people as the ones that cheat in video games. People wanna be good at stuff, but they don't want to put in the effort, which is sad, because learning an instrument has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things I've ever done.

      Reminds me of some alleged interaction between a musician and a fan.
      “I would do anything to play like you.”
      “Have you ever picked up the instrument and practiced?”
      “No.”
      “Then you wouldn’t do anything to play like me.”

      But I'm pretty sure that most people find practicing an instrument to be a boring activity, I once saw a statistic about music students and 80% of them are at a beginner level and most of them never get to a higher level cause for them practising sucks. I think most of those who get to higher levels get there cause they really enjoy the physical activity of playing an instrument, Steve Vai was once asked that he must have been very disciplined as a teenager cause he played the guitar 10 hours a day but he said, No I just loved it so much and when I was doing other things I thought, I could be playing the guitar now.

    Back in 1998 I started practicing on my sister's nylon string without any guidance. I then got some chromatic exercises from her guitarist friend and just sat down and practiced them for hours. That burning feel of my fingers and seeing how I started taking control of my fingers was the best feeling I have ever had in my life. When I see these kinds of products, I'm immediately turned off as these completely ignore journey and the pleasure. No thanks! :)

    Side note: I’ve taught over 20 people to play bass over the years; if your fingers are hurting when you’re learning, most commonly you’re pressing too hard. Make sure your bass is set up properly and it shouldn’t take so much force to fret notes. Stay loose, bass isn’t played rigidly - you’re in the rhythm section now!
    That is all, as you all were

    Gonna chime in here as a guitarist of 20 years. Pain in the tips of the fingers is something to be expected, not avoided. It helps build calluses, and strength in the hand. If an individual actively goes out of their way to avoid it, they'll never improve, nor gain the strength they need in their hands to be a proficient player.

      @castleanthrax1833 10 месяцев назад +15

    • @kassemir
      @kassemir 10 месяцев назад +18

      It's unclear if they're talking about building calluses, or if they're talking more about like joint pain. Which some people probably legitimately have. But, in that case I'd probably rather try extremely light gauge strings, rather than that plastic monstrosity.

    • @TheRockinDonkey
      @TheRockinDonkey 10 месяцев назад +4

      @@kassemir My brother had a guitar synth years ago that was similar to this, the only difference being that the "fretboard" for lack of a better word, was a piece of molded rubber with the "strings" molded into it about an eighth of an inch tall. You would press the "strings" and strum the strings to play chords or even single notes. It even had a whammy bar that would do pitch shifting. It was neat, but not very easy to play and, like this monstrosity, you couldn't bend (but you did have the whammy bar).
      It was marketed as a toy and I don't know what my parents paid for it when they got it for him (this was in the late 80s/early 90s), but it sure as hell wasn't equivalent to $600 in today's money.
      This smells like some kind of scam, probably tax fraud.

    I think its funny that people still think there is a "life hack" or a way to bypass practice and learning. As a multi instrumentalist in my early 40s... There simply arent any. Either you enjoy the musicianship part of the artform or you dont. If you dont then I recommend going out and finding another artform that suits you (no harm done really). They all require lots of learning and time spent but one will eventually come along that speaks to you where the labour of learning becomes the "fun" and instead of wondering for how long you have to practice you will wonder why you always seem to lose track of time when practicing.

    The way this product is being marketed is incredible, it’s like they’ve invented problems and are trying to sell the solution. The guitar is already one of the most accessible instruments out there in that you don’t need to study music theory or learn to read music to be a reasonably proficient player, and because of that fact it is one of the most fun instruments to learn. Learning theory and improving your technique is completely up to the player and how far you want to take it. Some people are perfectly happy strumming a few chords and playing a few riffs and that’s cool. At the end of the day, you can’t beat that euphoric feeling when you finally nail the song/riff/solo you’ve been practicing and you actually sound like the record. The finger pain is absolutely nothing as well, you get over that in like 2 or 3 days. The price tag on this piece of garbage is also highly amusing, $599 means they actually think this is a serious product, where it actually looks like a kids toy that should be about $50 max. This product will sink 100%.

    Making a video sharing what you believe is interesting is working pretty well 🤠
    As for overdrives the BD-2 is a pretty nice overdrive into distortion as the Ibanez 850 overdrive is an EHX Big Muff (?) clone and basicly a fuzz. Then there is the RAT, DS-1,DS-2 and then I loose track and interest other than the OD-3...and that is about it.
    Modulation I can watch one video after the other...same with reverb 😂

    Glad to see you be upfront and honest rather than compromise your integrity for some easy cash. This reminds me of when every guitar RUclipsr out there was shilling the Jammy MIDI guitar, and credit to them because I fell for it and almost bought one myself - but then I came across Rachelf giving it an honest negative review and I'll forever be in her debt for that.

    • @Aeduo

      I honestly was looking at the Jammy to have a MIDI guitar, and I may have even gotten one if they were in stock while looking at them. Then I read about them not being sent to buyers. My understanding was that it was pretty good for what it was supposed to be though. That is, not intending to be necessarily a guitar, but not really advertizing itself as one. I ended up getting a jamstik though. I'm not at a skill level where it's noticeably dropping notes or anything, but I could imagine tracking won't ever really be perfect for such a thing, especially for someone who plays real quick or with a lot of subtlety. It certainly seems to work better than the aeroband where reviewers have it sounding notes just by touching the thing.

    When I was learning guitar back in middle school, all the guys would show off their calluses to show how much they were playing haha. Fingertips getting callused and hard is a rite of way I feel like. It just comes with the hobby. Luckily, once your fingertips are done adjusting, you never really have to worry about it again. I used to teach guitar to students during covid and they all loved seeing their fingers get used to the instrument.

    Complaining about finger pain when learning to play is dumb. The only cases where this is a valid complaint are people with certain skin conditions or some types of physical impairments on their hands. But there's far better solutions to any of that than that aeroguitar thingy. Thin gloves/tape on your hands can make a huge difference for example.

In the right hands, it can sound far from boring but I get that RUclips guitar drama is what gets the algorithms cooking. Every popular guitar channel is doing their video of why they didn't review the product in question. That was way more predicable (boring?) than a decent overdrive pedal review, like Elmo Karjialainen and the likes do.

    The most major hurdle when learning is moving from chord to chord. This product effectively bypasses the one thing that requires the most practice. I'd say the biggest hurdle after that is learning legato, then sweeping after that. I think, for anyone struggling, that other things like chord memorization, vibrato, rhythm, and coming up with ideas, are small bumps in learning. This product is worthless and is only one step above air guitar.

    I can see someone coming up with this idea as a high-level concept without thinking it through and deciding it was a good idea. It's sort of like how some e-drum kits have built-in teaching tools in their software. The calluses thing I sort of get (doesn't take long for that to be a non-issue, if it's an issue at all for the player), and a lot of beginner classes do some things that mainly focus no strumming with little fret work so I can kinda see there being a case for having a less/mode like that. And the app could be updated to have full lessons and courses. Depending on how well their sensors work, they could also include things like letting you know if you're muting other strings when playing chords.
    That being said, if you think through it even just slightly more, this product doesn't make much sense. Depending on software updates, you could use it to learn some concepts potentially (you could learn scales and chord shapes on something like this) but aside from that it's just an expensive midi controller. If someone wants to play guitar, they're still going to need to buy an actual guitar on top of this and start dealing with fretting actual strings. And it's way more expensive than just buying a cheap beginner guitar plus an amp or audio interface if you want to run into a computer. You could get all three for that price pretty easily. And they remain useful after you learn to play.

As a RUclipsr, he has an obligation to his subscribers and those who view his videos. He can't state that there's a dodgy product/promotion going around but then refuse to tell what or who it is. That is unethical. So, he expects unsuspecting people to crowd fund Aeroband? How can a buyer beware? At least Eytsch, KDH and SixStringTV did the right thing. Andy didn't. If he can't give critique, he shouldn't be a reviewer.

      Have you watched Andy's video?. It's primarily about the control the company wanted to exert and the threat of litigation if he didn't follow their rules. It wasn't so much about the product itself. It's hardly 'unethical' to want to protect yourself. It was quite clear to anyone watching and reading the comments what the product was. He's a gear reviewer and even though it was paid promotion and that's how he earns a living, he refused to do it. Seems pretty ethical to me.

So if there's someone here still with that problem you may try it, IDK why should it work but it did for me.

    As for that 'played it 'til ma fingers bled...' nonsense occasionally heard in pop song lyrics, alluding to the preposterous notion that we 'paid our dues' when learning to play, whilst it is true that when starting out years ago, some of us had cheap steel-strung acoustics with actions like a cheese grater - which did hurt our fingers a bit - but most of that was down to not fretting chords cleanly, thus not sounding right when strumming, and so pressing down really hard, imagining that would solve the problem.
    Even then, we're talking about a few days of sore fingertips, which is hardly some heroic battle wound worthy of a Purple Heart. Or even a mention in a song lyric for that matter, especially these days when there are so many pretty decent starter guitars for not much money and a stack of youtube channels showing people the right way to play so they probably won't experience anything other than a bit of minor discomfort for a day or so. If anyone ever was truly put off learning by potentially having that, they were never going to have what it took to stick at learning in the first place and no psuedo guitar is going to help them get past that either.
    Regarding marketing of this thing, they probably should have gone for contacting light and fluffy 'influencer' youtubers/tik tokers and pitched it as an interactive 'guitar hero-esque gaming device with a nod to some learning', rather than youtube music/guitar channels, because the thing is certainly more of a toy as opposed to a learning tool. But as either of those things it's taking a serious conceptual nose dive between two stools, because it's way too expensive to succeed in either role. When it inevitably flops, that'll be nothing to do with 'bad reviews', it'll simply be because it isn't a financially viable product. Frankly, it's a shit idea which would never have got backing from a serious investor, which is exactly why it had to get going with kickstarter, because to be honest, that place is all too often the home of pipe dreams and wishful thinking.
    When it finds itself in the bargain bins or on ebay for not much money, at a stretch it might just conceivably be worth a punt if you want to control a VST synth via a MIDI guitar interface.

    I saw that item come across Kickstarter and I took one look and said "no". Part of that was "I am not a guitar player, I am an audio engineer", and the second was "why are we trying to learn real instruments on fake instruments?" One thing I did notice on observation was "probably no way to do alternate tunings and no way to bend notes". Your point is quite valid because you can buy a real guitar for not just a little, but a LOT cheaper than this thing.

    I'm closing in on 70 years old. My first guitar at 6 years was an f-hole arch top huge bodied . . . SILVERTONE?? Some brand like it. Black Dismond coat hanger gauge strings 3/8 inch off the neck at the 12th fret. Finger killer. A pharmacist my mother worked for gsve me TINCTURE OF BENZOIN to seal up my bleeding fingers. Pain didn't stop me from learning. Point being, if you REALLY want to play, you can. My story of woe ended when I was 8-9 and sister (oldest siblings, I was youngest of 4) bought me a Fender Duo Sonic 2 and a Vibro Champ amp. I put Black Diamonds on it, still kinda hurt my fingies. Complained to clerk at music store about the only brand that makes strings should make lighter strings. Asked what am I using. STEP OVER HERE . . . A wall display of brands and gauges. He tossed a set of Fender Bullets "TRY THESE ". My complaining stopped. I see bad reviews on guitars that cost between $75 to maybe $150 that by standards aren't as good as the big companies but would sparkle like diamonds as a first guitar for someone determined to play. This Aerofart product is plain ridiculous.

KDH hit the nail on the head when he said they were looking for promotion of the product, not a review.
