The Skid Factory Put a Ferrari kit on it and LS Swap it. Or chop the bootwall out and use all that extra boot space to chuck a 1UZFE and keep it Toyota.
The Fiero wasn't a horrible car on paper, but with beancounters and poor management getting in the way, it never really achieved its original design potential. Typical GM - too busy with infighting between it's own internal brands to bother with actual competition in the marketplace. :-P
I love how Woody opens everything slowly with his fingertips so as not to disturb whatever venomous creature might be lurking in there after all this time. Very Australian.
I reckon the engine building departments of each manufacturer had pool tables in their areas, and the poor losers of matches would throw the eight ball at the winners, but kept missing. Those eight balls kept turning up in the strangest of places until found, years later. 🎱
Plus one for Al commenting! Hilarious and way better than the random breaks with you both standing in front of the car telling us what you're doing. Plus an awesome opportunity for Al to impart his knowledge at key points!
Lol nah his older brothers MR2 has been on the channel in a build review before. Fun fact though Woody has driven Marty's MR2 as well. If you watch the Skid Factory Injector pump episode on MCMTV2 you'll see them driving around in that SW20. I think Al does mention that he's not a fan of the MR2 even then lol.
The way this episode started I thought we might be in for a Primive Technology inspired episode... Al's voice-over more than made up for when it turned out not to be the case- put me in mind of Layland Brothers narration! Clear & concise with no hype but plenty of dry-humour sprinkled in- love it, such a relief from everything else about lately... Thanks for sharing once again!!!
Al has gotten so much more comfortable with the camera work. So cool to have been here from the beginning. Is this the first time Al has done voice? I laughed so much with this episode. You guys are legends.
7age just isn’t worth it IMO. The long rod/stroke and the weak block are just really limiting. You’re better off building a 4agze. Or stuffing a beams in.
Good to hear Alan on the other side of the Mic and camera for a change. His quick wit and dry humour is what this build needs. Woody does a great job of the editing work too. Great team work fellas, the banter and humour is just a bonus, and I laugh harder when my so called mechanic mates don't get the joke.
The red aw11's were notorious for fading something shocking. The paint looks alright for a car thats sat outside for so long. That is the factory spot for the ecu, its meant to mount firewall side of that boot. Fun fact that around 160 the engine hatch floats almost fully open in the air. You boys should have some of the Aw11 anonymous guys that live somewhere around your workshop also.
„Number 2 bearing shell presented in kit form...“ ....sorry but I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard... because I have been there, done that.... I like the builds Turbo Yoda hates even more because of the comments!
Nice little Adub, I knew a couple of the previous owners and it was always the tidiest and most rust-free. Glad it went to a good home. This series has given me motivation to fix mine up again.
This is the most excited I've been for any build on any car RUclips channel. Woody, hope you turn this into an AW11 for keeps. She deserves a good home. Props for keeping it NA
Full rebuild, turbo, happy times. 👌. I love these things. Had a Matchbox one late 80's early 90s in white. Thrashed the shit out of it. The 4AGZE was a beast too. Had one in a Corolla!
Wow! Why have I not seen this channel? Where have you guys been all my life!?! LOL these guys make a great duo. The grumpy and logical older guy. And the young trying to find the bright side of things. Haha
It's great to see a mid-engine/RWD car on the channel. This is arguably the best drivetrain layout of all time. And if you need help, I hear Marty is a pro on MR2s ;-D
When I was about 15 I remember seeing a yellow one of these with a roof mounted intake scoop. It was the coolest looking thing I'd ever seen at the time. One of those unicorns you never see again.
They're actually not terrible, I've got a few things I use fairly often and am not easy on n they've held up well. I just got em cos I need it then and I still have em
Went and brought me one of those 3\8 12v ratchets after watching you guy's using it all the time , really Happy with it works great so Handy should of got one years ago.
Whoever did the mixing on this did a great job. That sound-stage was so wide, the clicking on the left channel wrapped around the earth and snuck up behind me.
I have a weakness for these cars. I learned how to drive a manual in an 85 model back in highschool. I absolutely love the 4age platform as well. They are especially good when you mate the 16 valve bigport head to a 1.8 7afe block and throw some boost at it.
Yaaas! I love the AW11. Def one of the best interiors IMO. I have an 85 and started work exactly the same as you. Cleaning out a disgusting trunk! My engine was also toasted. Though, it will be getting a more unconventional swap. Your car was def a basket case. Lot of poor past work. Will be awesome to see you revive it properly. Can't wait to get back to working on mine too. Have fun dropping the fuel tank if/when you get to that! :)

I know the owner before woodies brother
How are you guys finding the tool pro cordless power tools???
Al what happened to your neck?
Put a K24 in it and tell Woody there's a flashing "cock gobbler" sign on his upper lip.
Loved Al's commentary on this one. Would like to hear more from him in the future
"if only there was another place to earth on a car made of steel"
Was going to post the same thing. More Al voiceover please.
Sorry guys tin hat on leave the voice overs to woodrigoss
"Boost ants" :D
You can tell by even just his body language he’s way more comfortable in front of the camera
"We then lifted the Toyota X19, to roll the engine out from under the Fiero."
Well played Al.
agreed.
Those are far better than fierros.
The fierro is possibly the worst turd gm ever squeezed out. (And gms best is still trash)
The Fiero wasn't a horrible car on paper, but with beancounters and poor management getting in the way, it never really achieved its original design potential. Typical GM - too busy with infighting between it's own internal brands to bother with actual competition in the marketplace. :-P
aussiebloke609 It did..Right at the end
@@meteor5452 no fieros were pretty hot back then, they caught fire a lot
How stoked is Al to be commentating, lol
I really like his narration style, reminds me of How Its Made
Al is awesome in this vid
He is 😂 and simultaneously bored to tears with the car already !
REALLY channeled his inner Leyland Brothers for the narration- hope he does more!
@@bleeksbentbits3150 lol, yes exactly
I love how Woody opens everything slowly with his fingertips so as not to disturb whatever venomous creature might be lurking in there after all this time. Very Australian.
I don't blame him. If you ever watch the nature shows with the 10 deadliest this or the 10 deadliest that, half of them are always in Australia.
We consider those animals pets. Pets that you don't want to have in your backyard or look at or go near.
Number 2 bearing shell, presented in kit form. 😂😂😂😂
"along with N°2 bearing shell, presented in kit form" 😂😂😂
My cats have NO idea why I'm laughing so hard instead of preparing their breakfast.
It's cool to hear Al doing commentary on the video
Yes, the Al voiceover was such an unexpected, chill surprise. Also the sassy Fiero/X19 was pretty funny
Danny Hickling I was like “yehhh Al!!”
Was about to say exactly the same thing
I can’t believe woody convinced Al to sit down long enough to record the damn thing
The fact Al keeps his shop so clean and woody respects this, makes me like them more every episode.
Al had his extra surly pants on today.
rake may love it....al sure don't
I love Al's contempt for poor engine building, great stuff as usual
That poor 8 ball has seen every corner of the shop by now. 😂
Love Al's sarcastic comments and voice over, we need more of that. :-)
I reckon the engine building departments of each manufacturer had pool tables in their areas, and the poor losers of matches would throw the eight ball at the winners, but kept missing. Those eight balls kept turning up in the strangest of places until found, years later. 🎱
Great to see it again !
It isn't the same ball. There is a whole pile of them out back.
Plus one for Al commenting! Hilarious and way better than the random breaks with you both standing in front of the car telling us what you're doing.
Plus an awesome opportunity for Al to impart his knowledge at key points!
I'm impressed that the various plastic and metal body panels all faded the same.
80s red Toyota's uniformly turn pink.
That's the camera fooling you under the lights, the car is faded in various shades of red, which is how you feel owning one...sometimes.
" The coolant and oil are then drained, then Woody drops the exhaust on my head" hahaha
Missed by thiiiiis much!
I love the banter between you two. You've both become so much more comfortable on camera and we get to reap the benifits!
woody "my older brothers got a sw20 with a 3sgte in it"
me "since when was his older brother Marty"
Lol nah his older brothers MR2 has been on the channel in a build review before. Fun fact though Woody has driven Marty's MR2 as well. If you watch the Skid Factory Injector pump episode on MCMTV2 you'll see them driving around in that SW20. I think Al does mention that he's not a fan of the MR2 even then lol.
Nathan Kong true. AL is very kind to remind the viewers on many occasions on how much he dislikes the mr2. This is gonna be a good one 🤣
The red one with SLOW plates
Everything about this episode was backward, mirrored the car perfectly. Loved it.
December 2024. Rewatching all the old episodes because the world was better then. Loved the poor man’s Ferrari series back in the day.
“Found an ECU” 😂😂😂 “Just leave the ECU sittin in the boot. What could go wrong?” That gave me a laugh 😆
Marty would have coursed laughed and then cry afterwards.
A series with Moog and Al would be interesting. All that irresistible high energy colliding with the immovable low key sarcasm
Brillaint episode. AL’s dry humour presents brilliantly in this format
I love Al's calm witty voiceover
Need more of that in the future!
The way this episode started I thought we might be in for a Primive Technology inspired episode...

Knowing the bottom end is toast and that it's got the 20v head and quad throttles c'mon 7AGE with higher rpm cams!
You know you want to Woody.
7AGE would be more work than rebuilding the original engine
7age just isn’t worth it IMO. The long rod/stroke and the weak block are just really limiting.
You’re better off building a 4agze. Or stuffing a beams in.
@@Binford2500 3's are pretty heavy/complicated to fit. A 2zz-ge pretty much bolts in and is lighter than the 4age.
People are making massive power from 7agte's. So 7ag platforms are far from weak.
I'm a 4ag fan of 25 years now. Love the 4ag! Awesome motor.
Big Papa agree with you, the 2zz is pretty much bolt in (few mods) as I put a 2zz in my corolla witch also had the 4age before
Turbo Yoda commentary is BOSSSSSSS! more of that please!!
Al’s sarcasm is seriously priceless. Hahaha.
I can’t wait to see what unfolds. It doesn’t matter what car with these guys, every episode if awesome. We are so spoilt having these guys.
Mate, the voice over from Al sounds a really calm sound book😂 love it!
Great narration Yoda! Please do more. Big fan of your work.
"Pontiac Fiero without the mullet and trucker cap" is exactly what they are
Watching this series during the pandemic. It fits. Perfectly.
You watch Al's attitude change during the process, by the end he'll like it for sure.

😂🤣😂true!👍
Cool wheel, tire and flair compo. Perfect real street stance 👍
"Red Rat" is its name now (05:11).
'Extra clearance for more horsepowers!' cracked me up, as did 'Mr. Baring, he no here.'
It looks like a Silvertop sprayed black, one way to tell is the size of the throttle bodies, 48mm for silvertop and 52mm for black
nah it looks like a BT, it has the 3 spoke exhaust cam pulley and it has the hydo timing belt tensioner
Al's enthusiasm for this is epic

Use the silvertop rods while you're at it. They are the same rods in the later 4AGZE
Love Al rippin Woody's "Ferrari" to shreds both literally and physical.
Fiero. 😂😂😂.
Keep up the good work boys.
Al, keep on shreddin mate!
I'm surprised Al let you sort out the boot in the shop. My brother would've made me do that outside, preferably off the property, lol!
So many classic Alanisms in this video, "If only there was somewhere else to find earth in a car made out of steel." Love it!
Gahh, I've finally lost my first place on the Patreon list *shakes fist* 😑
On another note, it was great to hear Al as the voice over 👍
Change your name to AAA Aardvark Aaron Cutts.

Al- Why do u always bring me Junk ? 😂
CP_FPV Nice little Gas Monkey reference, was brilliant
Loved Al’s narrative and the backing music was 👌. That’s the most I’ve laughed during an episode in a while. Spot on lads.
Another MrPoo lol, Call Marty to help
Aw11 the original Mr2.
The poo barge came after it. Haha
Voice over gold Al , your disdain is projected perfectly
I’ve fond memories of a mates mk1, especially the time we got stopped by the cops and they asked if it was his mums car 😂
I love the Ronald Finger references. Really nice of you guys to shout out a little guy like that :D

Al's dry humor voice overs are great, Woody. You boys just keep getting better with these vids. Cheers
"has it ever been on a hoist?"
Missed opportunity for
"Bro, do you even lift?"
I've seen 10 seconds of this video and it's already my favorite build series.
Knock knock knock... Al: Brah that’s enough!!! ... the most concerned I’ve ever heard al 😂
Love it when alan does the voice over. Great episode. Always fancied a mk1 mr2 of some description. Cant wait to see how the build goes!
Lols "then Woody dropped the exhaust on my head"
Al please keep commentating for all future videos! This is absolutely incredible!
Man this car has clearly had a sordid past.
Al: How does this thing even run?
Me: How has this thing not burnt to the ground?

You do a brilliant job putting the show together Woody, well done fella keep up the good work.
For some reason I feel the need to get some “toolpro” tools ... lol
And some lemon squash.

Al's deadpan jokes really made the episode, and Woody havin a bit more banter was great to see too. Brilliant as always lads.

Al's commentry made it feel like watching Fletch on Classic Restos.
Marty is gonna love all the hate Al has been throwing towards mr2s 😂🤦♂️ .. or mrpoo
not really sure Marty was too fond of his example. a few telling put downs during his fight with it. that example has nearly put him off them I think.

Best part of this vid is Defo Al commentating the whole time, the guy is brilliant 👍
It needs a turbo for safety!! Should be in law.
High rev NA is equal to safe-T.
Needs a v6 with a safety turbo, I've heard several times that camry motors fit with minimal persuasion
I think thats done on the sw20 and not the aw11 ,i think
I can honestly say this is one of my favourite shows.
Thank you for taking the time to educate us!
We found where COVID-19 originated from, that boot 😂

Woody's voice overs are top notch, but I really like Al's voice overs too hopefully we get more.

Loving the new style of filming, music and voice over.
