    I grew up in Bardwell and Paducah Kentucky from 84 to 05, Paducah tried to save 2613 but we couldn't raise the money to save her. The price what she would bring as scrap felling sorry after the fact that they scraped her they gave us 1518 with the understanding that the money we had raised trying to save 2613 was to be used for upkeep of 1518.

      @rivitedrailfan  Год назад

      Yep. Too bad Paducah and the KRM failed at saving it, but I must admit, 1518 is a really nice locomotive as well, and I am glad it was preserved.

      @@illinoiscentralrailroadfan6015 that’s not surprising, they probably want to make sure it won’t get vandalized. Lots of railroad places have had those problems. That’s awesome that you got to get into the cab of 6017 though. I got to get in the cab of 1011

    2542 is still around in McCombs, Mississippi. She was built or rather rebuilt in 1951, I personally plan to purchase and restore this engine as she'd genuinely be the perfect candidate for it. And a 2-10-0 is a decapod. A 2-10-2 is called a Santa Fe.

    What a true shame that Illinois Central 2613 was scrapped along with all the other 2600 class 4-8-2 mountain type locomotives and none were preserved for public display. The IC rr 2600 class 4-8-2 engines were among the largest/ heaviest Mountain type locomotives that were ever built and I wish that at least one example of those locomotives were preserved at some type of museum.

    • @rivitedrailfan

    This excursion star really should've been preserved because this is an Illinois central icon, hopefully in the future an organization will be formed to bring back 2613 from the dead aka building it from the ground up like the t1 trust.

    • @rivitedrailfan
      @rivitedrailfan  2 года назад +2

      Agreed! It would be a good cantidate to be built as there are no running IC steam locomotives at this time. Though I see usually they make new numbers for the built locomotives, ones that weren’t used for that class before. But it’d definitely be nice to have IC steam return to operation in the future. 2613 did deserve better.
