Condensed version: Become a "Hybrid" Network engineer. Someone who can use the CLI to config a router or switch but also someone who can program a network. He suggests the following... 1. Get your CCNA R/S cert. 2. Study Network Programming 3. Get your CCNP R/S cert. 4. Get the Cisco Cyber Ops cert. Then... The IT world is your oyster. Pick what field you want to specialize in. What interests you? What do you enjoy?
As a 30 year old college student trying to break in to the industry with no prior experience (I am the guy my family and friends goes to to fix stuff and I've stuck in retail for too long), I am practically in tears. I finally have a good track to follow. This is an invaluable video.
Thank you Kevin for such a great session, I'm a Unified Communications systems consultant/program manager. From last year or so I'm heading towards my CCNP Collaboration but right now working on the CCNA Collaboration. So I have bought both courses & of course they are your course. And today with this video I'm more aware of my direction now then ever so thank you so very much again
I felt like you wrote a great CCNP Route book. I read the whole thing. I see in the reviews you were knocked a little on the book hard to follow. What I did was I am a Safari subscriber and I bought the physical book. I have dual monitors. So one monitor is for reading, the 2nd monitor is for looking at the figure, and the 3rd is the hard copy book looking at the configuration. When I did that, the book actually flowed really nice.
Thank you for this. I've been a generalist for 30 yrs, had my CCNA in 2000 then joined a bank and knew a little about everything, servers, policies, routing and switching... The bank was sold and I've been out of the industry since 2011. I guess I should be on the same track you mentioned in the video to get back on track. Heck I'm 52 yrs old tho.
Hi Kevin, I think your videos are great, I love how positive you are in your profession and it's inspiring. I am currently working on getting my CCNA, I'm on Chapter 4. It's challenging but I know I'll be better once I get my cert. Thanks for paving a way.
Mr Wallace ,I am so glad with the way you are explaining how to get my CCNA and I been watching your video's for ccna ,you are the best ,due to lack of cash I miss out to get your full video's when you explain on how to kill fear for exam
Hi Kevin, Enjoyed the real nature of the video, especially the delivery guy turning up. :-) It does looks like the traditional engineer is evolving into a different type of engineer, the focus on Network Programmability seems to be the future for automation and more. Looking forward to watching Live Lessons. Many Thanks,
Thanks Kevin, great video! Ive been working in R&S/security for about 2 years now and whilst I’ve thought about all the different Cisco tracks I’d love to learn, the two areas I’m finding myself drawn to the most is python / cyber ops! So hearing you mention those is really encouraging. Thank you ..ps I didn’t catch the live stream, but I’ll keep a look out for your future streams
Thanks Kevin for the great advice. By the way your teaching videos are amazing. But one thing i would ask for in your videos is more exercises at the end of each major topic. Also i would love a course on CCNA Security or Cyber ops from you and looking forward to it.
I'm trying to reinvent myself. I'm focused on CCNA. I want to get MCSE for 2016 server in the future, is it worth to take time on this certification? or just Cisco certification?
Im currently studying for the CCNA and was thinking of going to Datacenter track, but now you have me thinking....lol I like the way you explain things. is it possible (if you havent done it yet) make a few videos for RIP, EIGRP, BGP. because I watched a few videos from other people and they dont explain it correctly to me. I still dont know why is it used, and what its used for and how to use it and why do we need it. I am already a PHP, Javascript, SQL, HTML5 and CSS programmer / coder. :) looks like im gonna have to pick up Python....lol
Hi Kevin, I believe it should be a good start for anybody. I have a question, if I want to achieve the CcAr certification, how should I prepare myself, considering I am a CCIE in Collaboration.
Hi Kevin, I am a big fan of you. Your videos help a lot. I am working in voice domain since 2.5 years and have ccnp voice level knowledge. But when i think about future and the way technology is changing i feel bit insecure about voice domain. Can you suggests what else can b done along with voice. I personally like voice collaboration domain but want to know what else can b done so that it can help in future. Its totally depend on us what we actually want to do but i would like to know the possibility about other options.. i am waiting for your valuable suggestions and guidance.
Kevin Wallace thanks kevin. But i do have 2.5 years experience in voice collaboration so i want to continue with that. So would ccnp route and switch required ? I definitely want to focus and continue with voice but what else can b choosen as a 2nd domain ?
Hi kevin, I'm wondering why do we need to learn Python if it already exist SDN from Opensources or Big comapnies?. Why we need to to create a script with Python if we can do the same with a SDN that has been code from a pure developers?. Wouldn't be better to know how to use the SDNs?. Thanks.
Thanks Kevin for the great advice, but when i go for your ccnp course it take me to some other pearson website.Kindly help to get your Free CCNP course videos Link.
You will get all those certifications and at the end nobody call you for interview if you don't have experience, then you need A+ to start as help desk :(
Hi, I have not any experience and knowledge of IT, what is your recommend atino for a person try to get an better jobs and want a new start! Thank you.
Completely off-topic, but the angle of the background (yes, the trees and ground) is really bothering me... are you on a steep hill? it seems a bit odd and keep thinking that you're going to fall over.
***HELP*** Great video! I am looking to get into the IT field. I just have one question. I have very minimal experience in IT. I mean i know the basics but i have no college degree. Would i need to go to college to land a job, or would I be able to get a job with only certificates ?
Great content it is very much appreciated. What would you recommend after CCNP R/S, CCNA Security or CCNA Cyber Ops? I'd really appreciate your opinion, thank you...
I will be 40 in 2 years, want to get my CCNA Certification, sometime I feel its too late and then millions of thoughts inside the brain. I want to ask people am I too late
My first mentor when I got on the path of IT work was a former police officer injured on the job, who had to retrain into a new career. He got his first certifications in his late 30s and has a great career. It is never too late to start if you are interested in the technology. It helps if you enjoy what you do, so like Kevin said in the video make sure you are picking an area you are interested in enough because you are going to be doing it a lot in the coming years.
Not “it” or not “IT”?😄 Because "IT" is too big to think of "it" as only one particular thing; it has too many flavors. It's one of those unique fields where even if it is competitive, there is still plenty of opportunity for you. But don't just take my word for it. I'm just saying don't sell yourself short.
