- So a couple of storyboard artists who worked on Tangled: The Series came up with an idea for a spin-off continuing the story of Royal Alchemist Varian. And although it didn't get the greenlight from Disney, these two artists shared what they had planned; the characters, the plot points ect. One of them even posted her ideas of voice actors who could play the main cast (barring Varian's mother Ulla and her research partner Donella). So, well, this happened.
(If you have any suggestions on who could voice Ulla and Donella, feel free to share 'em!)

I'd love to see a Varian spin-off, whether it be V&7K or a totally different plot, but I'd love to see more Varian's story and growth as he becomes a young adult.

They think the series wont survive without rapunzel in it. They could reference her and she can make rare cameos but seriously the fandom for varian is so big I am surprised Disney thinks it wont work out. Disney has become such a wuss. They were a company known to taking any ideas at their disposal and always doing the going big or going home route. Now it is only based on popular characters.

Varian is the most liked character like that’s including the OG cast so season two viewing dropped because Varian wasn’t there. I would love to see Varian be like a big brother or have a love interest, knowing him it would be hella awkward.
That was the intention for the spin off to show! They were gonna touch on varians feelings for people and just him going through his late teenage years

The plan was for them to get together in the end. It would’ve been great. The character concepts where incredible, the story was fantastic, I would’ve loved to see it. It’s sadly never going to happen. Welp we’ll always have fanfics

Disney rejected this show because they were worried people wouldn't be interested, but so many people literally skipped season two of TTS, just because Varian wasn't there. Seriously?

I would really love to see this happen! Varian is my absolute favorite character and Jeremy Jordan was the perfect choice for his casting! If Jarrod Spector was Hugo, I probably wouldn’t be able to think Hugo, more like L cuz both Jeremy and Jarrod are in the Death Note Musical and both are perfect for each role! And Jeremy isn’t a backup singer or gets one song, He is the musical. He’s Light and I freaking love it!

This looks like it'd make for a spectacular show! The characters, the voices, and I already loved the Tangled: Series art style.
The one thing I can't quite see is Varian feeling like an outcast. Before the finale, for sure, I'd have thought that fit pretty well, but at this point, he's the official Royal Engineer, and his dad is working _with_ him on projects. That seems like exactly what Varian has wanted all this time. - That said, the part about him feeling like there's a part of him missing and going on a search for his mother's creations to learn more about himself I _can_ totally see, and that alone would be pretty good lighting fuel for the start of the show.
And OH MY GOD, Disney, you are making a mistake not thinking that Varian has a big fanbase. Of the fans of the series, he's the one I've seen most praise for.

This actually would've been an interesting concept to have Varian lead a group of teens since Rapunzel lead a group of adults. It's a shame this can't be its own Disney Plus series.

That's Joshua Rush, not Hudson Yang, but I believe Joshua Rush is more fitting for Yong, as I see his personality as very similar to Bunga from Lion Guard

I personally reckon that Melissa Hutchison would be perfect for the role of Ulla. She has that cheerful, dorky energy reminiscent of Varian, but as evident from her portrayal of Clementine from The Walking Dead, she can also portray a darker and more ruthless side mirroring Varian's own prior slippage into villainy. It helps that she can sing too.

But I do like the idea, usually the evil (usually old) women have very deep or nasaly schrill voices. Something soft yet firm and authoritive would honestly be a change. And I think it would make her manipulation or moments where she potentially loses her cool shine more? Idk
Honestly, I was thinking Christine Ebersole would be a good fit for Donella. Her portrayal of White Diamond proves she can definitely deliver that tone of underlaying menace I picture for Donella.

The romantic subtext in Playing His Game for this context was completely unintentional and I'm proud that its there!
It's interesting when you realize that people decided to ship them even though we bearly have an idea of what Hugo is like.
Yeah. From what I’ve gathered, he starts off as an unlikable sort who would lead Varian astray whilst working for the villain. But over time he would grow genuinely fond of Varian and they would end the story as equals and partners. I imagine their dynamic would start off similar to Pinocchio and Lampwick (which one of the creators mentioned) but would end up more like Sora and Riku from Kingdom Hearts.

Oh I didn’t pick ‘em; one of those storyboard artists who came up with the concept did. She brought it up in a tumblr post regarding Yong, Nuru and Hugo. I don’t think she mentioned any other picks, but hey if they come up then I might make an update for this vid! ;)

I personally imagine Ulla’s voice actress to capture that same dorkiness that Varian is known for, whilst also channeling the raw frustration and bitterness he showed as a villain. Y’know, to reflect the concept of Varian confronting his darker streak and reaching out to his mother. (Wotso Videos talked a bit about that.)
The only suggestions I have at the moment are Melissa Hutchinson or Catherine Taber for Ulla, but I’m open!

Personal opinion: i Think that another option for The Voice of Princess Nuru would be Kara Lindsay
I'd love for Kara to be a voice in the show, but probably not a good idea to cast a white woman in the role for a black girl...

It's funny because I'm pretty sure Jeremy and Jarrod did the cast album for Death Note: The Musical together. Wikipedia says so, at least.

I really liked your ideas for the character voices, except Hugo.
It's not that I don't like Jarrod voices, it's just that I always imagine Hugo having a more deep voice.

And honestly, when I first saw the character, I also imagined a deeper (albeit still youthful) voice for Hugo, befitting a delinquent.

Okay I need input because my boyfriend isn’t currently giving me any, but what do y’all think of me writing a (incredibly polite) essay, and emailing it to the creators, giving them reasons the show should be made? Because I just found out that Varian and Hugo could’ve been canon, and I’m dying for some MLM (man love man, not multi level marketing) representation in media
You can if you want, tho I doubt it'll have any effect. The show creators already wanted to do the project and the reason it didn't lift off was because the executives didn't think a Tangled spinoff without Rapunzel would be successful. And those executives care more about profit than they do about representation.
