Great vid, excellent execution on a wonderfully simple ,yet still very effective way to stay warm in a hammock. Watching Dave Canterbury do this was what got me into hammocks. Now it's a few years later and I've got more quilts, hammocks and gear than any one person should ever have lol. Although, I sometimes still like to go out with just my simple 11' diy hammock, a wool blanket and my inexpensive Snugpak tarp .It's nice to do it simple every once in a while isn't it ?
my family of 6ish likes to camp, trying to move into more seasons. making my own hammock hot tent, going to stack the hammocks in and use spreader bars to fit more hammocks in a smaller space. I think between the enclosed waxed canvas, tent, stove, wool blankets and all our bodies stacked 2x3 we should be able to camp down to some decent cold weather temps. Will use the spreader bars to make a packframe or 2 for the whole setup. plan to use for car camping and portage trips.
Have to wonder, since the wool blanket isn’t very compressible like a sleeping bag, why not just fold the blanket lengthwise a few times and lay it in the hammock under you?
William Hicks well, you could do that for sure. But in my experience when you’re laying on top of it it’ll bunch up and no longer protect. Plus if it’s folded up it won’t protect your sides and anything touching the edge of the hammock will get cold. Thanks for watching!
Totally. It’s not as good as a down underquilt but it certainly protects and gives warmth. You’d want more than just this if you’re below freezing but I works for sure.

Would adding a sleeping bag help in winter time under zero Celsius
