I love how NOTHING on Brood Sliver is synchronous. It's called a Sliver, it's an Artifact creature Giant, mentions draft, and then commander.

The first ability on Akolia means that if some other effect gives it defender, and then another effect gives it "this creature can attack as though it didn't have defender", and then it's attacking, then it can't be declared as an attacker (which doesn't matter because that part already happened).

    First half of this video:
(0:00) Brood Sliver: Fair, ship... Except, the name "Brood Sliver" is already taken, so this one is disqualified for that reason. Also, it's not even a Sliver, and of course you usually cast your commander from your command zone anyway. Oh, and it's effectively a slightly weaker Colossal Dreadmaw.
(0:57) It's possible to do Commander drafts. I did one with Baldur's Gate cards a couple weeks ago. Got a nice Luxury Suite, along with some Gate-related cards I was looking for to add to my Nine-Fingers Keene deck.
(1:40) Endrightning Knebee: OP, word salad, ship! Yes, we must indeed destroy X, and return it to its former glory as Twitter, before Elon Musk messed with it! :P
(2:45) Typing "!x" would find the Unstable card known as X. Don't forget the use of the exclamation point for single-word names, Nikachu!
(3:06) Auntie Sliver: Nearly unplayable, shred. Who wants pancakes? Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to counter a spell at sorcery speed without jumping through some hoops. Also, this thing being unable to block means nothing, since it's not a creature. (If you were to manifest it as a facedown 2/2 creature, it would still be able to block normally, since the rules text for being unable to block doesn't function while it's facedown.)
(4:28) Exime, the monny: OP, ship then ban later. Show me the "Monny", because if Wizards printed something of this power level, it would probably be a $50 mythic like Ragavan or something. For 6 mana, the amount of total power you get is quite extreme. Yeah, we currently have an 18/6 for 6 mana in Yargle and Multani, but that is just a pure vanilla creature. This thing's got abilities that make it nastier.
(5:38) Yeah, the art here is totally on the "Monny"! :P
(6:06) Akolia, Cruel Duskmaster: OP, word salad, ship then ban later. First ability has no real meaningful function, and the second ability is super strong for any kind of mill strat.
(7:50) Fathom Delitine: Fair, maybe OP, ship then ban later if needed. A 4/1 for 2 mana with no downside and multiple upsides? Welp, Dandan sure got power crept. The color symbols are all over the place, and thus could only be included in a Commander deck whose commander is all 5 colors. Also, tiny bit of world salad in the type line with "Creature Creature", but I don't think that really breaks the card. Honestly, I think this Branks creature Zibers. I like it a lot.
(9:48) Shu Firebirt: Fair, ship. Pretty simple and neat. Everything works. But... that's a cat head in the art of this Human Noble. Maybe it's a mask?
(10:46) The Swang: Fair, word salad, ship maybe. An enchantment with planeswalker abilities? Also, the -2 ability has a part that doesn't work. If that's ignored, then I guess it's okay. Exiling all nonland permanents seems OP, but that includes itself, and it takes 5 mana to cast this thing in the first place, which is probably par for the course.
(13:25) Domri, Battle Swarm: Fair, ship. Pretty interesting second ability there, and it all makes perfect sense. I like it.
(16:09) Jaggter, Undaunted Caracad: Fair, word salad, ship. Tiny bit of nonsensical text with the first paragraph, with "That creature can't block this turn". Otherwise, everything here is fine, and it's a neat idea to pay life to pump this thing's power... Wait, hold up! That's damage, not life loss! Give this guy lifelink with another card and... IT DANGER!!!
(18:47) Yo: Likely OP, ship then ban later, yo! First ability is like Diabolic Tutor, but it's a plus ability, and is thus easily reusable every turn, yo! Second ability to make an angel seems fine, yo! And, the final ability seems very underwhelming for how much loyalty it requires, yo! At least Jace here knows how to greet you, yo!
(20:04) Fire and Flame: OP, ship then ban later while rocking out on the guitar. This card is now part of Guitar Hero III, and it's Dragonforce time! :P
(22:38) Goblin Fink: Likely OP, ship then ban later if needed. Very simple. Very pushed.
(23:08) Cloudchaser Giast: Fair, ship. Reading the card explains the card... or does it? Well, I do like how that ox is so relaxed while reading his book, just like Nicol Bolas in his original Legends/Chronicles art. Those two would likely be best reading buddies.
(24:38) Memory of Perdation: OP, ship then ban. Old tilted "T" tap symbol FTW, and this thing is right up there with the power nine in OP-ness, maybe even more so. Also, it has a redundant "artifact" in its ability text.
(26:15) : Fair, ship. Similar in power to Arcane Encyclopedia, although that exile effect probably makes it a bit worse. Except... it's disqualified for sharing a name with the blue Unglued creature that's usually represented by a long underline. Except, except... If it has no name, how can it share a name? A creature with no creature types can't share a type with another creature, even if that creature also has no creature types. So... uhh... ahh!!! Mind = Blown!!!
(27:36) Crimson Hours: Word salad, shred. Second choice just fell apart.

Knebee says “prevent all for combat” not combat damage, so I think it prevents everything that happens during the combat phase like damage, triggers, instants etc. and it doesn’t say until end of turn.
If you look at a card like Ashaya, Soul of the Wild, it turns them into Forest lands and not just forests.

Hi. Judge here. So a few things regarding Nim, Dragonrootwat.
One: YES! It CAN tap for Mana. It does not need to have the "Land" supertype. What gives Swamps the power to tap for black has nothing to do with them being lands. The Swamp type allows that to happen without any rules text. As such, it can tap for mana.
However! It is NOT a swamp in any zone except the battlefield, and as such can not be fetched from the deck. This is because the rules text is what gives it the type of swamp, not the card type themselves.
    [Edit For Clarity]
Finally! This card seems fair, just up the mana cost past 1BB, maybe 2BB or 1BBB or so. Either way, continue doing you!

Are you sure about it not being a swamp? Cards like Transguild Courier with the same templating apply to all zones

    • @billsmom3443
      @billsmom3443 Год назад +3

Just having the land type Swamp is NOT enough for it to tap for B.
      from the comprehensive rules:
305.6. The basic land types are Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest. If an object uses the words “basic land type,” it’s referring to one of these subtypes. An object with the land card type and a basic land type has the intrinsic ability “{T}: Add [mana symbol],” even if the text box doesn’t actually contain that text or the object has no text box.
"An object with the land card type..." is the key part of this rule. Only when that is present along with the land type can it tap for mana.

    • @DYWYPI
      @DYWYPI Год назад +2

Both of these claims are wrong.
      For land types:
For Plains, [mana symbol] is {W}; for Islands, {U}; for Swamps, {B}; for Mountains, {R}; and for Forests, {G}. See rule 107.4a. See also rule 605, “Mana Abilities.”
Swamps can only tap for B if they are also Lands; Nim is not a Land.
      For being a Swamp:
604.3. Some static abilities are characteristic-defining abilities. A characteristic-defining ability conveys information about an object’s characteristics that would normally be found elsewhere on that object (such as in its mana cost, type line, or power/toughness box). Characteristic-defining abilities can add to or override information found elsewhere on that object. Characteristic-defining abilities function in all zones. They also function outside the game and before the game begins.
604.3a A static ability is a characteristic-defining ability if it meets the following criteria: (1) It defines an object’s colors, subtypes, power, or toughness; (2) it is printed on the card it affects, it was granted to the token it affects by the effect that created the token, or it was acquired by the object it affects as the result of a copy effect or text-changing effect; (3) it does not directly affect the characteristics of any other objects; (4) it is not an ability that an object grants to itself; and (5) it does not set the values of such characteristics only if certain conditions are met.
Nim is a Swamp because of a characteristic-defining static ability, which function in all zones at all times.

  • @TheKrazyguy75
    @TheKrazyguy75 Год назад +24

Nim, Dragon Rootwat isn't a swamp in addition to its other types. It is JUST a swamp. It uses the same wording as Blood Moon. As in, once that thing hits the field, it instantly becomes a colorless basic land - swamp, that taps for black.
The 4/3, the trample, the sac, the +1/+1 per card in hand... none of that matters, because on resolution it becomes a swamp.

    • @undeadmyth9977
      @undeadmyth9977 Год назад +9

Notably because it doesn't say "in addition to it's other types". Thats why it's JUST a swamp.
Edit: Actually now that I think about it more, no, this doesn't work because it's still a creature. It becoming a swamp isn't overriding it's supertyping, just like blood moon doesn't make non-basic lands into basic lands (anymore)

The "has haste until end of turn" is valid cuz there's cards that have interaction specifically with things that have haste, like Gingerbread Man and that one legendary dragonborn from the dnd set
The enchantment planeswalker is vulnerable to damaging effects that specify "any target" and, of course, enchantment removal (of which there's a bunch of cheap options)

    • @CoreyMarinoGames
      @CoreyMarinoGames 6 месяцев назад

haste until end of turn also helps if your opponent steals the creature, it won't be able to attack (or tap) the turn they take the creature.

    Second half of this video:
(29:50) Painful Skeleton: Fair, ship. Interesting that it implements scorch counters and actually uses them for something. Color pie is way off for this, though. And, how is this skeleton not a creature? At least it functions just fine.
(31:25) Steadcran Paladin: OP, ship then ban. The statline is okay for its cost, the Megamorph cost seems way too high, and... when it dies, it wipes nearly everything, lands included! At least your Spirited Companion can survive this Ape Rnben's nuke.
(33:25) Diregraf Skaab: Fair, ship. Stats are fine, ETB effect is good, and it introduces the supertype Sneppets! What more could you want? Oh, and if being a Fungus wasn't good enough, this thing is a Fungus Again! :P
(34:32) Nim, Dragon Rootwat: OP, ship then ban. 4/3 Trample for 3 mana is already very strong (though I guess not 6/4 Trample strong), but then it can get way bigger based on your hand size. Also, it's a Swamp! IT DANGER!!! ...Well, maybe not quite "DANGER" if it only counts as a Swamp while on the battlefield. I'm not 100% sure on that...
(37:37) Vivian, the Reef: Fair, ship. Interesting abilities, and seems good to me. It zibers!
(39:38) Strangle Mists: Likely OP, ship then ban later if needed. So, Apicate is basically Backup, which I guess is fine. However, this thing doesn't enter tapped, but lets you tap it for red mana, while having other upsides (including the ability to grant energy, which is interesting). Usually, lands with those kinds of qualities are legendary, but this is not.
(39:59) Wait, this isn't a creature! Word salad, shred! :P (Change "creature" to "land" or "permanent" and it's fine.)
(41:31) Mind Jung: Word salad, shred. This permanent. That is all.
(42:36) Doubling Fire: Word salad, shred. The first five abilities are perfectly fine, but the last two enter word salad territory. That's unfortunate.
(44:11) Chandra Watcher: Fair, ship. This is pretty neat. Tiny grammar nitpick: "gets" at the end of the second line should be "get". Also, the flavor text is intruding on the power and toughness. Still, this Zombie Noble likes to have illusion support. Just make sure you're not targeting one of those illusions that get sacrificed when they're targeted.
(46:14) Percentian Expression: Word salad, shred. Man, this one's just all over the place with unplayable abilities. About the only thing that really works is creating the 4/4 token.
(47:22) Surge of Kaminary: OP, ship then ban. Yikes, 1 mana for a 4/4 flying lifelink guy? IT DANGER!!! And, the downside isn't really relevant most of the time. Perhaps this thing could've been a 1/1 that entered the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it, and then the downside would be meaningful and the card would be more fair.
(48:42) That wouldn't be 10 damage. It would be just 4 damage, and then it would lose ALL of its +1/+1 counters, not just one of them, and then it would die as a 0/0.
(49:05) Tergrate Pack: Word salad, shred. Once again, shame to have that art wasted on something that's just nonsense.
(49:55) Firewalker: Fair, word salad, ship. The second ability can't really work, since you would sacrifice the thing you're trying to put a +1/+1 counter on. Maybe if it said "Sacrifice another creature named Firewalker" instead, then it would be usable. Aside from that, I guess this guy is okay.
(51:56) Mind Crumles: Word salad, shred. The AI's mind sure crumled here alright. :P
(52:52) Tauger Forger: Fair, ship. Good doggy! Ping those opposing creatures down and keep the tapped ones stunned! It zibers!
(53:18) "Whatever you do, don't eat the delicious cards."
(54:25) Jyricas Cradne: Word salad, shred. Looking at the card explains the card. :P
(55:42) Martyr of Arms: Fair, ship. Pretty neat effects here, though it is 7 mana, which might be a tad much to cast, especially since it's legendary, and thus requires you to control a legendary creature or planeswalker in order to cast it.
(57:20) Faerie Cityr: Fair, likely underpowered, ship. Heh, it's one of Boldwyr Intimidator's abilities in spell form. Honestly, this probably could've used a "Draw a card" cantrip on it too, since by itself, it's quite limited in usefulness.
(58:13) Plated Sands: Word salad, shred. That sure is three pile of word salad alright. Even the elf in the image is just as confused as we are about this.
(59:09) Battlefrungue: Fair, ship. It's totally in black's nature to wreck creatures alright, and I think this is pretty fitting. Might actually be a tad OP, but you need a creature spell to counter before you can hit everything else for 3 damage first. So, maybe it's fair. We can always ban it later, as usual.

Gotta correct you here Nikachu, blue actually does have graveyard recursion and blacj does have counterspells. Most of blue's recursion has to do with instants and sorceries but there are several cards that reanimate themselves (advanced stitching) cards that recur artifacts (Argivian Restoration) and even creature reanimation (Dreams of the Dead), for black though counter magic is rare it exists (Dash Hopes, Deathgrip, Stromgald Cabal, Thrull Wizard, and Withering Boon) just goes to show how broken the color pie is 😂

  • @malcolmdarke5299

Blue and black are allied in part because of philosophy - both of them value having control, but blue values it for the ability to gain knowledge whereas black values it because to black, power is its own end. Similarly, both value knowledge, but for blue, knowledge is the goal, whereas for black, knowledge is the means to a goal (that being power). Black leans immoral, blue leans amoral, but both of them reject conventional morality.
Also, what are you talking about, blue has *tons* of graveyard recursion. It's just all targetted at instants, sorceries and artifacts. Blue and black both get lots of card draw. Blue and black both like to make their opponent put cards into their graveyard, whether that be from hand or directly from the library.

Some cards I don't really have an opinion on, so I'm just writing notes for those that I do.
2:00 Knebee: First ability is word salad. X seems like a decent card, but it doesn't specify whether X has to be on the battlefield or whether you can destroy an X in your hand with it. Either way, the second ability is way too specific.
5:00: Exime, the Monny: Real powerful, so I'd shred it, waste of capital though that might be.
    6:00: Akolia: Word salad, shred.
10:00: Shu Firebirt: Firebert is not a good commando name. It seems like an interesting enough card. I'm more curious about what this guy's backstory is. Seems like he'd have one.
11:00: The Swang: Needs a bit of a rewrite. Personally, I'd increase the P/T of the Swangs' Powers from Combats to 2/2, increase the damage to 6 or so, and increase the cost of the card to maybe 4GGG. And *maybe* make it only affect non-land permanents for the second ability. I like the idea of it having a sort of 'Panic Button' ability, and I like the turn-to-turn effect of making small mantises and sniping targets. 6 might be a bit much for player burn though.
13:30: Domri, Battle Swarm: High cost for its stats, so maybe it wouldn't be *that* busted as it is, but it needs to have something limiting the second ability. Maybe put one into hand, one onto the bottom of your library, one into graveyard, and one into exile or something like that.
16:30: Jaggter, Undaunted Carachad: I like the concept of this guy, but he needs a bit of a rewrite. I'd say the creatures he boosts shouldn't be able to block until your next untap step, even if they are untapped.
19:00: Yo: Nice name, Nice -10 ability, but the tutor for 4 CMC is already strong, and the ability to keep doing it is just ludicrous.
20:30: Fire and Flame: Needs flavor text to explain why it's Blue. I'd rework it to requiring you to sacrifice a Blue creature with power 4 or greater as an additional cost. Only they are strong enough to bring the target creature back through the Fire and Flame. You'd get the Blue Merfolk 1/1 for free though.
23:00: Goblin Fink: Maybe Goblins deathtouch creatures without looking them in the face, but I ain't a Fink, dig? Its' stats are busted though. Put in the vault and maybe print it later if Power Creep gets that bad.
23:30: Cloudchaser Giast: Another card that needs backstory or flavor text. Maybe Read could be a keyword, but I just like the idea of this giant ox's literacy being something so noteworthy it has to be put on the card rules. Maybe the card itself is meant to be able to read.
26:30: Unnamed Artifact: I do like this card. The idea of a card that has no name is quite neat to me. Maybe as part of an Un set. I'd find it amusing to see how players refer to it. ALSO this things existence means any card that says something like 'destroy ' without specifying what would be destroyed now retroactively targets this card specifically.
30:00: Painful Skeleton: A weird one. Why is this skeleton in White? I do like the card, although it seems a bit specific. You basically need to run discard effects and hope your enemy relies on artifacts. The fact that you remove Scorch counters with blue mana is flavorful at least. On that note, this is another card I want backstory or flavor text for.
38:00: Vivien, the Reef: Another one that needs flavor text or backstory. She has an interesting effect, basically making a sort of vault for your cards.

And, for the second half of the cards:
41:00: Strangle Mists: Apicate doesn't work, but I'm kind of fascinated by the potential Apicate might have as an ability.
43:00: Doubling Fire: With so many keywords, its' other abilities better be quick, to the point, and necessary... and these abilities really aren't.
44:30: Chandra's Watcher: I don't know how many illusion cards there are, but it seems like an interesting card.
47:30: Surge of Kaminary: Even if this was a 0/0 with 4 +1/+1 counters, it'd be absurd. Basically a lion/dragon/human-mystic shaped missile that heals you when it hits. It's not as versatile as a lightning bolt, but if you want to do a lot of damage to an opponent...
50:00: Firewalker: I'm amused by the fact that you can pay Blue to essentially kill Fire Walker. If I were to redesign this card I'd change the second ability so that it would be sac'd at the end of the turn (and maybe increase the power/toughness buff, but then, it's only a 2 CMC card), and change the first to simply be -0/-1 and let any player cast that ability (maybe boosting the Firewalker up to 3/2 in exchange). It either drowns or burns out and I like that flavor. Or burns itself to kindle other Firewalkers.
52:00: Mind Crumles: This card plays mind games. It lets you know that it knows what you did, and then doesn't specify who 'that player' is, because you already know. This card knows too much and needs to be shredded.
53:00: Taugar Forger: Solid card, although I might rename it 'Taugar Forager', unless the dog's name is specifically 'Taugar Forger' or it somehow forges things. I'm curious what the backstory on this 'elemental dog' is.
54:30: Jyricas Cradne: Being instant speed makes this card OP. Your opponent can figure out a combo on their turn, and right before they activate it you cast this, forcing them to look at it, and making them completely forget what they were doing. I'm half joking, but I wouldn't be surprised if this card could actually pull its' own weight even without Storm. Could fit into an Un set.
56:00: Martyr of Arms: Doable. Hadn't heard of legendary sorceries before. It's powerful, but at that cost you'd better be getting decent value from each effect.
58:30: Plated Sands: My opponent doesn't realize why I'm bringing 3 car batteries with me to the game until I cast this bad boy. But that probably only works because people here know some French.
59:30: Battlefrungue: Amazing value. I'd boost it up to at least 3 or 4 colorless, and that's still operating under the assumption that it'll be hurting your board as well.

The Elemental card Exime is pretty nuts with Incandescent Soulstoke. You could turn 1 Mana Dork, turn 2 Soulstoke, and then turn 3 you slam Exime out for 1 red 1 generic and attack in with a 9/9 Vigilance Flyer (Soulstoke gives +1/+1 to Elementals) as well as the haste dragon. See if they block, and if they don't you pop a temur battle rage for double strike and trample and you win. Turn 3 kill right there with 3 cards, 4 if you count having the mana dork.

If you give it Lifelink, it still doesn't cost zero life to pump it indefinitely.
Normally: deal 3 damage, gain 3 life
Use the ability 1x: deal 4 damage, lose 3 life but gain back 4 (so +1 life)
Use the ability 2x: deal 5 damage, lose 6 life but gain back 5 (so -1 life)
Use the ability 3x: deal 6 damage, lose 9 life but gain back 6 (so -3 life)
Use the ability 4x: deal 7 damage, lose 12 life but gain back 7 (so -5 life)
Use the ability 5x: deal 8 damage, lose 15 life but gain back 8 (so -7 life)
Use the ability 6x: deal 9 damage, lose 18 life but gain back 9 (so -9 life)
Use the ability 7x: deal 10 damage, lose 21 life but gain back 10 (so -11 life)
It can work as a finisher if you're already winning.
    In a combo with Lifelink.
With no evasive abilities of its own.
Also, you lose life before dealing damage. So even if it isn't blocked and the opponent is close to zero, you could still accidentally unalive yourself first.
It's not an infinite, it's not OP, it's not even particularly strong, but it has some very limited use.
