Flat track seems the best of both worlds for off and on road fun was going to build a super moto possibly flat track now 🤔, ktm flat track project next 😂 then it will be veri fast and veri awesome
JDM n Euro Mossy hey, 2 time Minnesota amateur flat track champion here. Flat track tires are too soft for the road. They are also not dot approved. Keep in mind we race on hard packed dirt. Not even joking that dirt can get as hard as concrete. Also, we drop our suspension. If you put flat track wheels on your Ktm you will have to drop it so the wheel doesn’t rub on the fork seal protector things. Do the supermoto, you’ll have more fun and it will perform better
@@holidayracing4741 am only building a bike for fun not major milage and competing, will be 50 50 on road and off road with mountains so be better for me to be flat track set up over supermoto as I have a road bike
Jdm enduro I'd thoroughly recommend flat track tyres on any supermoto it's incredible compared to 16/17in sm wheels I've done it to my 450 and 250 gas gas factory supermoto excellent fun
I think that the most people build the supermoto, because you need small front wheel, when you want to go fast the hard corner. Like race specials has 16,5 front wheel. Smaller wheels = easy turn. (mean on the road). Just my opinion. And i don´t like, how the flat track wheel look. :D But nice video! And that end is the best!
I think that the main reason people go with the 17" wheels on the sm is because sport bikes tires are readily available in the 17" sizes, and not in the 19's.
Remember classic flat track do not use front brake and run in flat dirt, that's the reason you need a larger diameter front wheel. Just try run flat track with smaller front tire and you will found out.
Hi Guys from the UK you have just changed my mind , i was going to supermoto my 2016 bought brand new wr250f but now im defo going flat track i love those wheels tyres combo ,i will have best of both worlds grip in the dirt and grip on the road and where i am moving to it has a very twisty long through mountains road plus it has an old Quarry just for mx cant wait to order my new wheels tires soon keep the vids coming guys i also learn a lot from you changing tires brakes everything realy so a massive thank you from the UK CHEERS.
Hey scoobs idoo. Have you done your flat track built? I was planing to do similar to my 2016 yamaha wr450f so i was interested if you could give me any feedback how it worked out. Hope ill get an answer, alltho this comment is from two years ago :D
For a flat track setup you should lower the suspensions, to lower the center of mass and get better control whil going sideways, hell yeah. Kawasaki is ALWAYS cool, even with paper wheels. :D
A better way to do a cheap flat track conversion is to take the wheels apart, put the stock rear 19x2.25 rim on the front, and buy a 19x2.5 or 3.0 for the rear.
Thats not how that works, the rear hub is designed to have a sproket mount and is physically thicker than a stock front hub. The rear would never be able to seat right on the front forks.
@@CoachSludge i think you dont understand how it works, Ben Boyd probably means to put the rear rim on the front hub, you need to assembly the spokes again, but it would totally work.
I watched this video and did the same to my wr450f. Had a bit of a head fk with the rim width Turns out the rear Will fit 19"X 2.50 and the same on the Front. It looks beautiful. And its not to shabby on the weekend trail rides 👌
I’d be interested to see a head to head on the same bike and same rider and same tires (same tread and rubber compound just 17 and 19). I bet for off road the 19s will win but on the street the 17s win. I just wonder if having 19s could be a fun compromise between Supermoto and dirt. I know I ran my wr450f on the streets as a Supermoto and a dual sport. In dual sport mode I could run away from all the Supermotos off road but once on the street I had to really slow down for the turns. Maybe 19s with grippy rubber could let you lean and push hard through the turns. Of course one thing to remember is most street legal dirt bikes or bike people would convert come with a 18 inch rear rim. So it would still cost a lot to convert. I bet a lot of those bikes couldn’t squeeze a 19 back there. But I love the look with 19s and really want to try it.
Definately gonna test this out on the WR450F - was considering buying a MT07 (mainly just commute on my supermoto), but running 19s would be fun for awhile and could even run some of the trails around here easily (flat, mostly for 4x4 trucks)
Gents PROBLEM!? - Did you end up having a problem with the front tire rubbing the fork seals when suspension compressed?? (I had this set up on my stock CRF450L it rubbed really bad on fork seal (blew off the ring) -- apparently you HAVE to lower it to clear the fork seal first 😑 (I went to a narrower flat track tire up front sadly)
That's a pretty good argument for flat track conversion. Cheaper, less modifications needed and better traction on dirt; tradeoff less traction on road and doesn't look as cool.
There are two problems with your flat track bike. For one the front brake is ditched and second the whole chassis needs to be lowered in order to be closer to the ground for sliding in the corners or more stability on the straights.
Iam thinking of building a supermoto but with flattrack wheels, do you know if I can buy a 19" backwheel and put it on as a frontwheel or do i need a special 19" frontwheel?
dual sport are the best in my opinion, made to travel long distances on and off the road at cost of some tooth in the sprocket you gain higher top speed and less vibration while you are traveling and you can pack them with a lot of stuff and still wheelie, lots of bike come with Rally kits so you can make a rally bike like they use in dakar race. for me the best are husqy 701 and other non racing engine becouse if you are planning to do a long trip you dont want to mind the bike if its good or its going to have a problem EDIT:also Rally kit install on a ktm or husqvarna would be an awesome video
I love the 701 as supermoto, but i really dislice the enduro. Because it's far less agile than the 450 or 350 or all teh 2strokes and a lot harer to handle offroad. On the other hand if you are really strong and can do hillclimbs and jumps with the 701 you can ride a n y bike offroad! So cheers
almost all dual sport bikes are banned in the netherlands because of regulations :( except F 850 GS bmw but is more than 15 000 euro.. with lots of shit electronics which are complex to fix when you're on adventure in some foreign country... While all the good reliable japanese dual sports which are reliable, cheaper, easier to fix are banned. FUCK THE EU.

I would like flat track tires on my bike but in the end the thing is, that those are only decent at both street or dirt. Its like buying all season tires in to your car here in Finland, you can deal with it, but you really don't want to. But on the other hand it really just depends where and how you like to ride you bike for most of the time, flat tracks ain't a bad option.
I get the same performance out of my 125cc flat tracker as I do my 125 cc super moto with mud and snow tires on my super moto id say it was mainly tires that hindered your performance
I got my super moto straight from the manufacturer I brought a Sinnis Apache and got Sinnis blade wheel set for off road use it’s a 125 but that’s the class I race in they also do a 200 and 250 version
What a cool friend. Nice review. I was thinking about buying some Dunlop k180 for my spare dirt bike wheels rim19 and 21 instead of buying super moto wheels and tires for my newly rebuilt RM250
I did the supermoto thing with my WR450 but I am definently not doing that with my 2019 KTM 500 EXC F as I want to be able to go offroad also. I have always been thinking you don`t need to go full supermotard and something like flat track tire pattern should work ok on tarmac and gravel....

Y'know guys, I have been reading a fair bit on the demise of British Speedway. It really seems they are on a downward slide. It's a real shame but the more I think about it the more I think the clubs should go the way of Flat Track racing. The bikes can be bought off the shelf from the big four manufacturers too and although the single speed Speedway bikes with no brakes would have no future, the tracks themselves could be modified and have a future. There is also Flat Track in the States and elsewhere which would mean international competition. The bikes look great too and the youngsters (who are the future and much under-represented) would be sure to want to get involved. It's taken me a while to put this down in a comments section and if I were to do so in a Speedway video I would come in for some heavy stick from the diehards and the purists, but c'mon, we really are up against it with the future of Speedway in the UK, so something has to give. Everything changes with time, but this would be a change for, dare I say it, the better?
This ties right in to something I can not stop dreaming about....I bought a new KTM 690 enduro that came with 21/18 knobbies .....problem is I ride the bike on fire roads with club so I need large diameter wheel BUT I LOVE riding this bike in the twisty highway too! So my dream is to buy new set of wheels....a 19" front and a 17" rear so as to try to maintain original geometry as much as possible ...I have the funds but what is stopping me is I ALSO would love to go tubeless! I have not found tubeless spoked wheels for KTM yet other than the ones that are taped which seems a bit dodgy ...I like the wheels coming on new africa twins and I think tigers maybe? Oh and Vstrom XTs have em too....seems like SOMEONE would make for KTM...oh wait KTM even is putting those on Big KTM adventure bikes I think....anyway I cant understand why 19" front is not a thing....17" rear is probably fine and really great selection of road tires....but 17 front is just too damn SMALL!!
You just killed future supermoto builds😂 flat track everything
Supermoto racing is done on tarmac and off road and normally on tighter circuits than flat track
