Its Tuesday evening, Nov 5th. I cooked steak abd kidney pie with roast potatoes, veggies and gravy. I listened to this while I was doing it all. What a charming programme. I used to listen to Nigel Ogden on Radio 2 with my family on Tuesday nights. Such a shame these programmes are no more. Nigel is lovely chap.
Great video Nigel, I used to be an organist from 1985, got letters after my name in 1995 and the last time I played properly was for the Millennium new year. That night I put the lid down on my all singing and dancing Techics and hardly ever played again. It's such a difficult instrument to keep up to a great standard I felt like it was taking up so much of my life. I used to play alot of Blackpool tower stuff. I refused to play 'I do like to be beside the seaside' because that was Reginald's not mine but just before I rolled the lid down for the final time I played that and Somebody stole my gal exactly like Reg god bless him.
At every mention of "The Organist Entertains" I get really irritated by the BBC's decision to axe the programme. How very short-sighted of them. What a good job there is RUclips!
I have had some replies , thank you I was 4 when I heard Reginald Dixon rise up from the floor of the famous ballroom , I thank you to who have responded , there are some decent guys and gals out there, but you have to admit this is beautiful music.
Thank you for sending me a notification via Google, because of lockdown for me another 11 weeks I have done 5 weeks, but as a child I marvelled at a man rise up out if the floor playing the most beautiful sound that I had ever heard, that was Reginald Dixon, since then I am an avid fan of organ music especially the wurlitzer, I am feeling low at this time but you have lifted my spirit, to me and you american people I have watched your wurlitzer organ's also, but a big thank you for sending this.
I am pleased to hear that it's helped to lift your spirits, Roger. That's who got the ball rolling for me too, though I was never lucky enough to see him live. There's a fair few videos on here that I'm sure you can enjoy until better times. Thanks for taking the time to comment, and stay safe. P.S I'm Scottish, and the channel is run from Scotland lol
@@OrganMusicYT I remember as a four there old child it was majic watching this man, rise up out of the floor playing I do like to be beside the sea, and my dad would take me for a donkey ride it was pure magic thank you all,.
In a similar fashion to Reg Dixon, which is the inspiration behind most of the arrangments on this recording. Some of them are practically note-for-note copies of Reg Dixons arrangements.
Lets hope that this wonderful Wurlitzer does not end up with the same fate as the Wolverhampton Compton (yes I know it is not a Wurlitzer). The said that the civic hall needed modernisation but although the organ would be removed and replace back in site after modernisation was complete. BUT THE COUNCIL HAD OTHER THOUGHTS AND THE PIPES WERE SENT TO LANDFILL AS THEY SAID IT WAS COVERED WITH ASBESTOS !!!!but we will keep the console :(

Nigel at his best, if I could play 1/2 as well I'd be in Heaven

@@OrganMusicYT Thank you
Just excellent !
Sounds that are etched on my mind ever since hearing them many times in the Tower Ball Room.
That Tower Ballroom (mutational couplers) sound is available to organists on the 3/14 Wurlitzer at the Tampa Theater in Florida. :->
Aah it may have the couplers, but it doesn't have the sound of the instrument or the acoustics of the room.
Wonderful video and playing and sounds!
Fantastic!
I would be curious to see also the pipes of this organ? Thank you and continue this beautiful music
I'm afraid photos of the chamber's are few and far between. It is much the same as many other Wurlitzer theatre organs in the chambers though.
There's an old video of phil kelsall showing them off
Ogden wasn't fazed about distributing melody, harmony, and counterpointed decoration all over both hands and multiple keyboards.

It won't. Along with the rest of the Tower it's grade I listed.
Wolverhampton committed a crime against culture... unfortunately, from afar, I see so many being committed in Britain now.
