    I live and grew up in St. Gallen. I love this city. We got so many different scenes in this city.
    I had to laugh a bit when you saw the kids alone on the street. In Switzerland its normal to go all alone in Kindergarden. and on streets.
    nice to see a different kind of view

    Writing from Turkey and thanking you for taking us to our favorite country (besides our own of course) again. St. Gallen was the first part of Switzerland I had ever seen- I was 8 or 9 and fell in love with the place! I took my wife there thirty years ago and we've been holidaying in that country regularly ever since. My wife and I enjoyed watching your Swiss videos with pleasure and nostalgia, especially poignant in this pandemic year of restricted travel!

    The cathedral actually dates from the 18th century (built 1755 - 1767). It is a substitute of much older buildings. It was mostly built in the roccoco-style, as was the library. The monastery was founded in 711 by st. Othmar. But it was built on the ground of the hermitage of St. Gallus (allegedly a irish monk, maybe he was from what is nowadays France, hence his name Gallus (Latin for Gaul). Gallus came there in 612.

    6:30 - kids walking on their own. This used to be the same in Germany until about 10 years ago. Unfortunately the American way of 'helicopter parenting' has swapped over to Germany as it is not seen anymore.

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  4 года назад +3

      Are you serious? I thought in Germany it would be a little bit more like it is in CH. It's so nice to see children walking to and from school. There's a certain freedom that you feel and also a sense of confidence that the children must get from going out on their own. It would be so nice if this could be the case in other countries.

      @yakutza100 4 года назад +1

      @@GrowingUpWithoutBorders It's getting "worse" here too. But as a Parent you can let your kid walk around freely. Cars have to stop at a so called "Zebrastreifen" (Zebra stripes) if there are pedestrians waiting to cross.

    I could not get into the Library since they did not allow you to bring in backpacks. You had to leave them in the floor outside. Now I have been traveling in CH for 20 years and I love the cultural difference between CH and the US. But I just can not bring myself to leave my property unattended or allow my young children to walk unattended like they do there. Just so sad for us.

    Thanks for the video. Its mostly very nice but I have a bit of critique too: claiming that little kindergarden kids crossing streets all by themselves is "something you dont see in any other country in the world" 6:49 is first bold and dishonest, secondly very rude. Sounds like something an American would say.
    You might want to know that is a default standard of life in every single safe developed country, like in all northern european countries even in the biggest cities. It is a default for kids to walk or bike alone to school and friends houses. Some kids at age of 7 travel hundreds of kilometers alone if they want to. It might even blow your mind to learn that in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland parents even leave babies alone to sleep outside in strollers. Its safe and healthy to do so.
    So please do not expect all countries to be as unsafe as the ones you have been in. And please do not make such false statements about other countries. Someone watching your video might even believe you that the safety in switzerland is unique and rare compared to rest of the world.

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  Год назад

      Well I wouldn't say this about Mexico, Thailand, Guyana, South Africa etc...If I'm in Switzerland say it's safe, that's because it is. It's not rude if I missed sayign that other European countries are safe... Sorry if it offended you.
