This is the best example I've discovered of why the Post-Syd, Pre-DSOTM era of Pink Floyd is my favorite. I love Syd and constantly wonder what music he would've produced had he stayed in the band, but a lot of the pop singles he wrote sound fairly dated today and he just didn't have Gilmour's guitar chops. And I love Waters but subtlety isn't exactly his strong suit and that makes a lot of the sociopolitical thematic lyrics of his later albums overshadow his songwriting ability which I think is best highlighted in this era. Songwriting and musicianship are Pink Floyd's strong suits and both are strongly evident here. As a deadhead, the Grateful Dead played the Filmore West on 4/12/70 but by the time this show was performed they were on the east coast. Shame it never logistically worked out because having the Dead on the same bill as this show could've been the greatest thing in the history of music.
"Grantchester Meadows" to "Astronomy Domine" is one of the coolest segues I've ever heard. Everyone in the audience was probably higher than a U-2 over Beijing, so they must have been blown away.
Since no one has done the dirty work yet...
This is one of their best performances in band's history!! Yes, it's that gd!! Every single nuance and sonic apocalypse is here!! If ever i could travel back in time to a concert......fkn INCREDIBLE!!!
When I delve into Floyd's past it's around this period that I cherish, with all the bitterness and derision of the Roger VS David camp- one only has to listen to Grantchester Meadows ..one only has to listen.
Amazing recording of when these guys were at their prime, when their music still had an intimate quality and they had not yet become an arena rock band. That Echoplex is almost like a fifth member of the band.
The way the birds chirp, which melts into" astromany domine" immaculate, deeply moving.
Been looking for THIS concert for years! Best version of Embryo ever.
Wow....never heard an axe like that!.....awesome!
I've heard almost every Floyd bootleg imaginable, this version of " set the controls" is the holy grail🏆
One word, "QUALITY"!!!! 🎹🎸🥁🎤💯
Again thanks for another flawless recording, as a deadhead and a Floydie its cool to hear the Floyd in san fran let alone the FILLMORE dopeness🔥🔥
Shades of Echoes to come
life-changing band
Parts three and four of Saucerful of Secrets has been my favorite song(piece of music?) for decades, and the level of improvisation with the live versions is more noted compared to most Pink Floyd songs.
One of the first PF boots I ever got, this may be one of their best performances!
Great. its my actually birthday, only being hours old !!
Awesome beginning to a concert! Wish I could have been there but I was only 4 at the time. An older family member was in attendance and I got to ask him about it (years later) but he told me he was too stoned to remember much ...he only remembered the GONG...
Classic gig from the classic line up.
thank you for posting !! the saucerful is majestic !!
