  • Here's our 1984 Dodge Ramcharger Royal SE Prospector 4x4. 360 four barrel, 727 and 3.21 rear end gears.
Cool fact, originally owned by Ken Black of Keith Black Racing Engines. Ken kept this truck in amazing original condition.

I just sold my 84 prospector last year. I definitely miss it. It was in great shape with low miles. Silver and grey two tone with a red interior and a 360. Great truck. I love all your videos. So cool, you are one of the Chanel’s that inspired me to get into cars and automotive stuff. I’m 18 years old, studying mechanical engineering hoping to get into the automotive industry some day. Since I sold the ramcharger I bought a 68 340 dart.

When I was in school I bought a 77 Trailduster for my 1st vehicle and I was going to tech for half a day in 11 & 12 grade. I rebuilt that whole truck and I rebuilt 2 1979 Broncos and a ‘56 Willy’s wagon. Tech was awesome for stuff like that

I'd vote for keeping those aluminum rims and i think the Mickey Thompson Baja EXP would be a good tire choice

I’d leave the wheels. They’re period correct. 31-10.50x15s are an easy fit

I dig the wheels it had but if you go wagon wheels, go with chrome.

Sweet Truck. Probably, 31x10.50r15's would be decent if it's stock suspension height, depending on gearing and towing plans. Like the spoke oem style turbine or western wheels myself. But some white wagon wheels would work too.

At one of the USCG small boat stations I was stationed on had one of these, an 85 version, stripped out, rubber floor mats. A no-frills version of your Prospector that was used at the station for trailering our smaller search and rescue boats. Having owned an 84 Bronco II at the time, the cool thing that really stuck out for me was the loud intake noise within the interior, coming from that 360. Back in those days, like today, we recieved our vehicles from the GSA. And at that time, the contract for govt vehicles, appeared to be Dodge or Plymouth. Ford and GM came later in my career. I suspect that Mopar contract came about because of the govt loans that helped Mr Ioccoca save Chrysler. These days, looking at Ebay and autotrader, these old Ramchargers command good prices. Yours is in exceptional condition and I wish you many miles of smiles, driving her!

Exceptional, man they have a time capsule on 4 wheels. I'd say they could sell it for an easy $10,000.00, up north even more.

I love it. I bought an identical one that was blue on blue with blue interior. I bought it new. It had the 318 cu. in. engine. I regret trading it a little over 20 years ago. It had 160,000 miles on it and only needed head gaskets in the time I owned it. When I traded it, it was still in great condition with no rust. I recommend that if you keep it, modify the cup holders and make them much deeper. They're only good if your sitting still.

Great video Tom. I’m so glad that the 84 Ramcharger has found a good home. Had many enjoyable outings to the mountains and just a few trips, well maybe more than just a few LOL, to the drag strip towing my 68 Dodge Dart GTS. Oh by the way those small tires on the Ramcharger WERE almost brand new, at least mileage wise, before you did the burnout LOL. This was my daily driver for many years. Definitely was not a great choice for gas mileage but wasn’t as much of an issue back when I purchased it. Hope you both get as much enjoyment from the Ram as I did. Thanks for posting the video. Really enjoyed watching and also enjoyed the comments between the two of you 👍
    Best Always,
    Ken Black

Find a set of Turbines and wrap em in no more than 33" BFG T/A's Go for the 10 ply so off road stuff doesn't go through them. Any more and you are looking at a lift kit. At that I would do a 2" leafspring lift and go with a 1" body lift. More and you change drive shaft angles and steering angles. Needing mods.
Chuck Norris in LoneWolf McQuaid so far as I have found is about the best all around RamCharger movie. Kinda like Vanishing point the Charger is in almost every take.
I have a 83 RamCharger that was bought new by grandad, went to the dad, bounced between the two sons. Then one son put it up for sale for $1,500.00. I stole it. But, he was young and wanted parts for his new Chevy pick up. He should invest in AAA. Gonna need it driving a blotide around.
So I am 4th ish owner. It was complete and everything worked. Currently doing my parts build up for a 406 Stroker.
I need a Dana 60 front passenger drop. A NP205 Transfer case and debating on keeping the 727 or going to a NV4500 or NP435.
Gonna sub if you promise more Ramcharger videos.

@@Challengeher They become addictive. My first car was a 1968 Coronet 440. 318 car. I would give a thousand days to have it back. Drunk T-Boned me.
The RamCharger is sorta best of both worlds. A 4x4 truck and in a way a good hot rod. I am happy and love the gas station conversations.
Y'all have my sub and attention.

Beautiful truck. Stay with chrome wheels, white spokes might be slightly tacky. Just my .02. My parents had an 85 that they used for annual trips from Maryland to Maine after Christmas, had chrome oversize wheels and tires, never an issue in snow.

My first Ramcharger was a 85 in gold and tan. It was a trade in to the Dodge dealer I was at in 2003. Next thing I know I have three others, two parts trucks and a good running 84 that was a rusty rock crawler candidate. Finished the 85 and was about to start on the 84 when a neighbor came knocking on my door with his father’s 79 Ramcharger to sell me. Sold all the others and have had the 79 for 15 years now.
