I have an 18R-C in my 1978 Hiace camper. It took me around Australia and now I'm back in Melbourne. I'd like this OK mechanic to look at it for me. I am having trouble finding a knowledgeable old timer to tune it properly....... Hope this guy isn't too far away. I'll keep watching this site for a recommend. cheers
Nice job. I'm amazed at how many vids you've got of older Japanese cars. The last time I saw an 80's Corona here in Alaska was IN the 80's. Most Asian cars rusted away in 6-8 years (or less) in our climate. That car looked to be in pretty good shape.
A lot of toyota engines of that era are pretty bulletproof, in an old farm car we had a 4K engine that ran for 6 months with no water before we got bored and bought a new paddock basher
sounds like the mechanic had one of these knocking around and wanted to make a quick buck!! Oddly enough, i think the chain sounded quieter once the valve adjustment was done - maybe less strain on the valve train?
I was thinking while watching this video that this Corona could be saved....especially by you Brad!

for sure it got hot at one point, that thing just broke in with those 222k kms, its usually 300k-500k km then they go scrap or engine swap
"It's fucked." - Another way of saying, "I don't know how the hell to fix this."
Great video.

I bet you have lost count of how many so called 'terminal' cars have you rescued now Brad
Hey mate can I ask you some questions?
Good point.
can't tell the diff between the shitbox engine noise and the shitbox camera noise
yep its getting that way. i think ill do that soon. is say i got my $ worth out of this old S210.
So the valves stayed open a little and wasted the explosive energy and may have blown back into the carby, yep that would fuck it up a bit :-)
Luckily the tight valves didn't burn.
Looks to me like the previous mechanic tightened the shit out of the rockers and reused the old gasket.
It doesn't sound like a diesel + diesel camera = valves too tight.
doesnt seem so fucked now
It needs help!
My car doesn't idle either
Either my car doesn't idle or your car doesn't idle either, so which is it?
De-fucked.
