This is my favorite cover of 'The Skye Boat Song.' sung by The Corries.Their singing voices and harmonies are in top form here! I can feel the Corries' sadness as I watch & listen to them here. The scenery in this video is breathtaking! Thank you,fireflyXl5,for creating & posting this lovely video for all of us to enjoy.

Listen!!! This music has almost no instruments! The music is the feelings and voices, that´s greatness. I have some relativs on New Seeland who says they found out we are related to Robert the Bruce. We are swedish but the westcoast of Sweden has since thousands of years had many contacts with Mother Alba! And my wife is Ogilvy.

    Chorus:
Speed bonnie boat like a bird on the wing,
    Onward, the sailors cry.
Carry the lad that's born to be king
    Over the sea to Skye.
Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar,
    Thunderclaps rend the air,
Baffled, our foes stand by the shore,
    Follow they will not dare.
    Chorus
Many's the lad fought on that day,
    Well the claymore could wield,
When the night came, silently lay
    Dead in Culloden's field.
    Chorus
Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep,
    Ocean's a royal bed.
Rock'd in the deep Flora will keep
    Watch o'er your weary head.
    Chorus
Burned are our homes, exile and death,
    Scattered the loyal men.
Yet ere the sword cool in the sheath,
    Charlie will come again.
    Chorus

The song of Britain's real Royality
Stewards are not kings they hold a stewardship they are servants, guardians looking after the real true Royal babes. The real Royal family of Britain, for it was the Scottish throne that took the throne in England. The real Royal family didn't and still dont care about money. It is God, the Big Man in the Sky that they care about.
God is their master and Lord.
      I'm a human who wasn't born Billie

The castle you see on the other side of the little bridgeis quite a bit from Skye,it's Eileen Donan, one of the most picturesque in Scotland. The last time I was there ,the RAF were doing low level flying training and two Harriers made a beautiful pass on either side of the castle as they screamed down the loch about 125 feet above the water.Just fantastic to see!

Lived in Scotland for 35 years....Law Village, Shotts , Edinburgh.......love Kenneth Mackellar, Moira Anderson, Andy Stewart, The Corries, Hogmanay with Rev I M Jolly (Scotch and Wry) and later on Aly McBain (fiddle player), then the beautiful Karen Mathieson among so many other Scottish greats ( too many to mention) but who all left an indelible impression on me. Great memories. Thank you my beloved Scotland.

Flora died in 1790 is buried at Kilmuir, on the Isle of Syke. It is said her funeral was attended by 3,000 mourners, who between them drank 300 gallons of whisky. She was buried in a shroud said to have been made from a bed-sheet in which Bonnie Prince Charlie had slept.

Beautiful. You don't need a lot of instrumentation for a song like this, not with a voice like Ronnie's.Very warm, and that accent is wonderful. They recorded another more recent version with the two alternating lead vocals, and omitting that last verse. Its also Iovely, but I think I like this version better.

To be fair to the MacLeods they are kind of relevant in that the song wouldn't exist without a MacLeod. Only the tune is Scottish. The tune of the verse was a traditional rowing tune collected by an Annie MacLeod who supposedly composed the tune of the chorus herself. Words were then put to by Sir Harold Boulton, an Englishman.
