    Great video. We're feeling fortunate you've been our Kohler 20RES installer and service provider for the past seven years.

    Extremely grateful for this video which is the only one that actually shows the wiring in detail. I bought a Kohler 20RESAL-200 and comes with an RXT-JFNC-0200ASE ATS, [200AMP Service Entrance (breaker)]. I paid for it a month ago but is still in back order. I pulled a city permit and now Fairlawn, Ohio, requires a disconnect outside for the generator as well. It has one in the actual unit but to make the inspector happy and because the unit can always be replaced, I installed a Square D 100 AMP safety switch. This is so the firemen can disconnect the generator since it will turn on once they pull the meter and they won't spray the house until the generator is disconnected of course.
    All is ready for the unit to be connected, so I was wondering how to connect the Belden and it was good to see the video. I bought the Belden according to the installation manual Kohler sent me in advance.
    And, I ran it separate in a 1/2 EMT.
    Yet, I have three questions:
    1. Can I run the three 14AWG (blk, wht, grn for battery/accessories charge) in the same conduit as the four #4 copper wires for the generator?
    2. Where is the battery line coming from? it looks like it goes to the side of the ATS. Is there a spare 120V fed from the utility Service entrance connectors somewhere?
    3. My wiring is a non separated ground and neutral so its only bonded at the ATS...so I need it to be a floating ground at the Kohler generator. I know Kohler has to ship them bonded but I cannot find anywhere how to detach that "bonding".
    Thanks again for the video!

    I wish there was someone near where I live that would take as much consideration and care and detail in their installation process as you seem to. I want a kohler too but not sure who I can trust to do this work correctly and with hurricanes and our area in general in mind.

    Looking for contractors to do work that will take the time to think about small details that make the install clean an thought out is hard to come by. This kind of install is a craft. One thing I try to teach my kids is weather you are flipping burgers or working for NASA. Do your job to the utmost. Take pride in what you do it is what put food on the table. You done a fine job.

      Defender One in training new employees I ask every one of them the same question: “Do you know the difference between a good technician and a great technician?”
      They always say no. I then tell them it is about 5 minutes. That is the amount of time it takes to do what is considered “above and beyond” average work. It doesn’t take any more skill or training, it just takes time and taking it to do the right thing.
      Being a professional is always doing the right thing - even when no one is looking or knows where to look.
      I was taught by an old school master that had one saying “We are judged by one thing as tradesman, our craftsmanship, and when we are gone it cannot say anything so let the quality of the work tell the story.”

      Elite Power & Energy Corporation I am looking to get a generator that size but currently have a 200gallon propane tank I think it is, would I have to go up to 500 gallon to make it work w/ proper pressure

    • @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254
      @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254  6 лет назад

      gibbyair1 it’s not a problem with pressure as all tanks work on the same pressures. It is the amount of gas on hand for outages and the ability to continue to vaporize the LP, which is why larger tanks are better.

    Finally someone who has MY identical generator.. Everytime I look up stuff on generators they are all the plastic models which I know they serve the same purpose but I'm sure there are quite some differences.. Why are generator companies making them with plastic?? While at the same time charging the SAME amount or MORE as a more sturdy metal model. I would think it would be a national "standard" to make ALL full house generators out of metal to withstand harsh weather conditions through out the seasons but instead I keep seeing them made with plastic which to me is much weaker than metal maybe I'm just naive in this deparment and plastic is the way to go..
    I just feel like for 5,500+ your not going to give me the same cheap plastic material they use to make walmart sandboxes for kids with so I specifically told my contractor I only want a metal if I'm going to pay over 6'000 for a generator because in reality it most likely cost them a few hundred dollars to produce then they over hype the price, with metal I feel like I actually get my moneys worth plus longevity. It just seems extremely cheap to me as a consumer.

      D Jaquith - unfortunately we aren’t. Good luck with your installation. Make sure you:
      A) - NEVER buy from anyone that is not a dealer and/or certified to install KOHLER. You don’t want them learning on your home.
      B) - Ensure you have a CERTIFIED start-up performed to confirm the installation is up to KOHLER standards.
      C) - Try to get an installer that self performs all the work so there are no issues down the road as to whom did what wrong. Don’t buy anything from anyone that cannot perform service on what they install.

    Its looks good until you brought us to the ATS. We wouldn't pass inspection in SE Florida. A hub would be required when entering the top of the AST, I would be interested in knowing how and where you tapped that battery charger circuit and would not have installed that open fuse. I have no idea why you ran that cable into the house like that, it wouldn't pass here.

      Michael Smith Give me your address and we will mail you the part (free of charge) if you will pay the shipping. It’s an easy fix but you should upgrade firmware too. Not sure where you are located so not sure about qualified service in your area. Worst case - you ship us the controller and we update it for you and ship it back. You would be exposed while this happens but we can help if you need it.

      I have a Kohler 20RESC installed new in September 2016. What are the details on the upgraded battery charging circuit and firmware? Is this something I might need for my own generator or is this for older models?

    • @russellmyers934
      @russellmyers934 6 лет назад

      It's charging the battery at 13.3v; never had an issue with a battery going bad. Current firmware RDC2 is 6.7; newest is 6.12.2. Install looks not too difficult.

    • @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254
      @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254  6 лет назад

      Russell Myers it depends on when the unit was manufactured as it may have set on a shelf for 2 years before you got it. An easy way to check is to verify what the charging voltage is at while at the Ready position. If it is charging at 14.1VDC or more you need the Battery Charger Diode kit. If it is 13.3-13.7VDC you are good. You should be running the latest firmware and your service provider should upgrade when they provide your service.

      There are 2 ways to determine how much power you are using.. 1 is to get a clamp meter and put it on each of the 120V primary legs... Then its some adding and calculating between the 120V and the 240V appliances... Its not easy at 1st but once you get the hang of it, you can determine how much power you are using in real time ... OR
      Buy this below.. It shows in real time how much power you are using, it re-freshes every 10 seconds ... I have it, its great, i know how much power each appliance is using .. The MOST i have EVER used was 17k watts ...

    I'm in the process of setting up a backup power system for my house. I loose power a lot because of snow storms. My advantage power outage is 5-8 days 4 or 5 times a winter. How many hours of reliable run time would you get out of a unit like this before you would need to re-build or replace it? Are there's units built to run 5-7 days at a time?
    Thanks

    • @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254
      @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254  6 лет назад

      Woody83 - this unit will run for several thousand hours before needing replaced - if ever. Running 5-7 days is no problem as we have many that do that with outages we have here. The key to keeping them running properly is shutting them down to check the oil - and a good visual inspection - every 24 hours of continuous run time.
      Proper maintenance will keep your unit running for many, many years.
