I love listening to the koto but I think it's a shame most koto players are not payed well as they should for all their hard work. I know a beautiful and talented koto and shamisen player in Tokyo but she struggling every day because she plays but she doesn't get paid well or doesn't get paid at all for performances 😔
I heard this beautiful instrument in Mihoyo's Inazuma concert video, where they used it for the Inazuma enemy fight BGM... Such delicate, yet such a strong instrument
As a musician myself, I would love to see other instruments from other parts of the world, this in fact struck me the most. I have been studying world music for a bit in secondary school, but non other than this. I do play the violin and piano and to me this is one of THE most stricking instruments I would love to play and just to compare the western traditional string instruments to eastern string instruments. If I would go to Japan, this would be one of my first things to do on my list when I go there.
I love japanese culture so much! The music is so beautiful, i once saw a video of these two woman playing the shamisen and sounded so beautiful i felt like crying. It also looks so interesting to learn to play, i love the food, clothes, music, culture i love it so, much so pretty! Their Koto playing sounded so beautiful despite being beginners and the peformance at the end even thought we only heard a part of it it sounded absolutely amazing!!💓 I hope one day to visit japan and experience the culture myself!
I would LOVE to see a crossover with TwoSet Violin and your channel!! You are both such honest, beautiful channels (they obviously have more of a comedy base and you have more of an exploratory base) it could be something really magical!
I started to watch an anime series that the 7 kids in high school are playing the Koto. When I was watching the series I started to really like the Koto. They have a beautiful sound in them and now I want to play it. 😅 Also new subscriber! ♥♥♥♥

Very lovely and interesting to watch! I read The Tale of Genji last year and there are many descriptions of various performances on the koto, so I really enjoyed to see this lesson and learn more about how it is played. :)
Thank you for sharing Shogo-San, I enjoy learning about your culture & language. My sensei Miku told me I should immerse myself if I wanna learn Japanese. ( with my PTSD which causes memory issues which causes me to forget & struggle learning Japanese)
Thank you! I first learned about the koto the first time I read "The Tale of Genji" and "The Pillowbook of SEI Shonagon." Then, in the 1990s, I heard a CD by a group called "Ancient Future," entitled "Asian Fusion."; my favorite piece on the CD is entitled " Empress," and I was hooked!
I love Japanese classical music very much. I love all the traditional and classical Japanese musical instruments. They are so very beautiful. I remember the musical piece SAKURA for many years and it is very beautiful
Yes I was waiting for a video like this. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. As a musician I am string instruments are my weaknesses. Doesn't matter if it is plucked, picked, hammered or bowed. I love them all, and I want all of them too.
This is one of my favorite instruments to listen to. I have been in love with the sound of the koto since I was little. ❤️ This is such a treat to be able to watch and live vicariously through you!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. The word "gorgeous" was very fitting. The Koto is one of my favorite non-western instruments and I am extremely happy you were able to create a very entertaining and stimulating video with everyone involved. Thank you!
Sorry for a late comment, but I really loved this video! As a koto player, this brought me back to when I was first starting and Sakura used to be the song that I used as example when trying to explain it, because many have heard that song without knowing it. Rokudan was one of the first bigger pieces that I learned too. I do implore that everyone please watch the full Rokudan link because it shows so many ways to play notes such as how to strike the strings as well as the left hand altering/blurring notes based on when it is pushed/pulled. These techniques is what takes koto above the just 13 strings (how hard it can be) to sounds and difficulty that can't be recreated elsewhere. Like Shogo said, please try this instrument. Once you do though, you may find that you can no longer live in a world without it. 😸 It was also nice to see mention of the Kokyu. Sadly, that is harder to find music for because in many cases, it has been replaced by the shakuhachi flute.
I admire the application of the Japanese people. It seems so easy, seeing you guys learning so quickly. Your culture is beautiful! Thank you so much for bringing us so much of it By the way, you 2 played very well, congratulations! 👍
Such a beautiful instrument! Thank you, Shogo, for showing us some of the very, vast, traditions, of your culture. I’ve never been able to travel to Japan, but it’s been a blast learning from you (it only furthers my desire to explore and learn about Japan). Thank you, sir!
I just start watching anime "Kono Oto Tomare" 2 days ago which it's a music genre anime and the characters there are playing koto. I hope you can introduce shamisen in your next video! 😄
I'm really impressed with how well they picked it up, and the koto, as an instrument, sounds beautiful!!... but the song, Sakura Sakura sounds so flat--like Klingon Opera! 😅 Also, compared to other RUclipsrs, I think your videos are by far the best organized--you must have graduated from college very recently :) (from my personal experience, I've noticed that, as the years pass after graduation, we gradually lose the enthusiasm for preparing elaborate, well-structured presentations)
Wow, すごいですね。I always see this one on some animes but not on a vlog like this. If possible しょごさん to please make a vlog on しみす instrument and performance as well. Love your vlogs so much! Please make more family vlogs with your kids please. 😊
It all sounded very nice to me. Kazu and Tomoko did very well. But I had no idea that koto were that large. I pictured them as an instrument that fits in your lap. Are there smaller ones or am I thinking of something different?
Maybe you had in mind our Finnish national instrument kantele. It is a bit similar to koto but has metal strings and is smaller - especially the traditional, most simple kantele which only has five strings.
i love the sound of the koto. thanks for sharing. but I have a question, you said in previous video giving 'naked money' in japan is not culturally accepted. what do you do with solo performers on the street or at events?

I would recommend the song “När trollmor har lagt barnen” (a Swedish folk song)!
I love the japanese culture and instruments such as shamisen, koto, biwa.
I heard this beautiful instrument in Mihoyo's Inazuma concert video, where they used it for the Inazuma enemy fight BGM... Such delicate, yet such a strong instrument
Yessss!
I see you're a man of culture 👀
One of my favorite ost, after the divine damsel

i remember hearing someone playing the koto at a obon festival here on Maui it was beautiful😄

Ki&Ki, right?
I only heard of the Koto from an anime, 'Koto Too Tomre'. I instantly fell in love with its sound.
me too
Do you mean 'kono oto tomare?' Or is it another anime? The ost for it is beautiful, truly.
2024, and yeah, that anime brought me here as well because I wanted to know more about this instrument.
I love the sound of the koto, it's quite an emotinally expressive instrument
I would LOVE to see a crossover with TwoSet Violin and your channel!! You are both such honest, beautiful channels (they obviously have more of a comedy base and you have more of an exploratory base) it could be something really magical!
It’s a beautiful instrument, and the teacher is so elegant. Thank you 😊

I love the koto tuning, it sound majestic and somewhat eerie 👻

How coincidental! A koto rendition of sakura sakura here on RUclips is what got me into Japan some years ago
Such a beautiful instrument. I could listen to the koto all day. It has a very soothing sound.
I absolutely love my Koto (expensive) but worth it. Been learning new songs weekly
I love Japanese classical music very much. I love all the traditional and classical Japanese musical instruments. They are so very beautiful. I remember the musical piece SAKURA for many years and it is very beautiful

This is one of my favorite instruments to listen to. I have been in love with the sound of the koto since I was little. ❤️ This is such a treat to be able to watch and live vicariously through you!
That was a great overview! I purchased a small koto years ago and learned more watching that video than I have from many other resources. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. The word "gorgeous" was very fitting. The Koto is one of my favorite non-western instruments and I am extremely happy you were able to create a very entertaining and stimulating video with everyone involved. Thank you!
As a violin player I find this amazing you can move the bridges to change the sound. Wonderful video. I want to try this.
I first heard the koto being played when I stumbled upon one of Kouzan Oyama's livestreams... I have loved the sound of it ever since!
Next time I wish to see a video about the "Biwa" or
"琵琶" instrument , .. thanks for this video shogo-san!!
Sorry for a late comment, but I really loved this video! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I really enjoyed that so much. Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Such a beautiful and elegant instrument the Koto is! 🌸☺️
Such a beautiful instrument! Thank you so much for sharing your lesson with us! Such a fun piece of quality time with you all!
Love the sounds this instrument creates. I have been obsessed with Kimio Eto's Koto Music after stumbling across it online
I've always been interested in this instrument and here it is. Thank you, Shogo San.
I admire the application of the Japanese people. It seems so easy, seeing you guys learning so quickly. Your culture is beautiful! Thank you so much for bringing us so much of it
By the way, you 2 played very well, congratulations! 👍
Bro its very relaxing
Fantastic! If you have the opportunity, I would love to see more experiences like this with other traditional Japanese instruments.
Such a beautiful instrument! Thank you, Shogo, for showing us some of the very, vast, traditions, of your culture. I’ve never been able to travel to Japan, but it’s been a blast learning from you (it only furthers my desire to explore and learn about Japan). Thank you, sir!
Also, I love the instructors energy. She seems very happy to share her art form with you all. She seems like a sweet woman.
Absolutely stunning, thank you for the video, best regards to you and your wonderful family
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this instrument! I listen to traditional Asian music sometimes. 🤔🤗💖🇨🇦😁👍🏻
Nice playing 😁 ! I love the sound 😆 !
I just start watching anime "Kono Oto Tomare" 2 days ago which it's a music genre anime and the characters there are playing koto. I hope you can introduce shamisen in your next video! 😄
That's a really fine anime - watch the entire series and you won't regret it.
Why, no, Kazu is totally not learning to play the koto to return and impress the maiko he met in Yasakadori Enraku. No ulterior motives whatsoever. 😁
So marvelous to listen to such a soothing instrument!
Stay safe you guys!🌠
I've recently become a big fan of Michio Miyagi so loving this video!
Thank you for sharing Shogo. I recently acquired a second hand koto and am learning how to play it.
Such hauntingly beautiful music.
Thank you.
I like the finger picks. Banjo players use something similar to those. Great video.
THIS, THIS IS THE ONE THAT GENSHIN'S ORCHESTRA USED TO PLAY INAZUMA AND LIYUE OST.
The sounds of Koto is amazing! Nice try by both Kazu and Tomoko - chan!
Shogo, it's you showed us some KODO stuff, I think. 😎
No because Sakura Sakura is one of my favorite Japanese songs 💕
I'll have to reference this video when I get the chance to set up and play my own koto that was given to me a few years ago.
That's very cool. What a great sound!
This would be amazing to learn!
I'd love to see you practice or learn the Biwa! The Koto is such a beautiful instrument, and I'd love to see you guys try more of them!
Very Beautiful Video!
Make more of Them!
This was amazing, the sound is so beautiful. 😍😍😊🙏
I love Sakura I hope I am spelling it correctly! Every time I hear that I really remind myself of my time in Japan 🇯🇵!
Incredible!!
I've always wanted to learn this inatrument. I'm so glad there are lessons!!!
I would love to study the koto from this teacher she is amazing! 😊
I'm really impressed with how well they picked it up, and the koto, as an instrument, sounds beautiful!!... but the song, Sakura Sakura sounds so flat--like Klingon Opera! 😅

I love Japanese music I listen to all genre of music but I love specially Japanese❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😎
Very cool to watch this. There is also an anime about a high school koto club. Also cool to watch and learn some.
Wow, すごいですね。I always see this one on some animes but not on a vlog like this. If possible しょごさん to please make a vlog on しみす instrument and performance as well.
Love your vlogs so much! Please make more family vlogs with your kids please. 😊
i loved this!
Japanese culture is very beautiful!! 🇯🇵🇯🇵🥰🥰
Really interesting, I shall look up koto music, thanks.
I love the sound of The Koto.
Amazing Unique sound 🙃❤❤🎶🎶
”So so” sounds a bit like “jaså” in Swedish! It means the same thing I think (like that’s it) 😀
So precious, so beautiful, so interesting!
Nicely done
I only know if this because of the anime kono oto tomare
Same
Yup
Koto is a big reason I want to go to Japan!
cool. thanks.
I just wish shogo could've had a go at it :( I hope youre doing well regardless of your condition and still had fun!
Awesome
Ever heard TOOL LATERAUS played on the koto. My jaw dropped when I saw it
I always wanted to learn how to play the Koto and Shamisen
I love her obi musubi!
The Koto is almost like the Finnish Zither. :) But much bigger.. Even though I think there are big zithers too.
Here is something I would love to experience
Im actually considering playing a koto
Dang, nice music bro
It all sounded very nice to me. Kazu and Tomoko did very well. But I had no idea that koto were that large. I pictured them as an instrument that fits in your lap. Are there smaller ones or am I thinking of something different?
Maybe you had in mind our Finnish national instrument kantele. It is a bit similar to koto but has metal strings and is smaller - especially the traditional, most simple kantele which only has five strings.
As the Sitar, an instrument I've longed to learn.
Way better than i would do.
i love the sound of the koto. thanks for sharing. but I have a question, you said in previous video giving 'naked money' in japan is not culturally accepted. what do you do with solo performers on the street or at events?
Shogo, at the end of this video what instrument is playing? It’s beautiful. Thank you🌈
Is it " sakura , sakura yayoi no Sora wa mi-watsu kagiri kasumi Ka kumo Ka nioi zo izuru izaya izaya mini yukan"? Bk I'm leaning this with my music teacher ( she Japanese actually it me and the class we want to learn this music)
Shogo should try a reaction to Wagakki Band sometime. Am curious what he thinks of them.
Wagakki Band’s Ibukuro Kiyoshi brought me here
💕
Koto has to be my FAVORITE instrument, or as I've heard it called a "Dragon's Harp", is there any truth to that? Anyone? Not asking for a friend, either 😉😂
Edit: I've also heard it called a Dragons spine harp as well 😊
That’s exactly correct! Each part of the koto actually has a name related to dragons✨
@@LetsaskShogo Well, that I didn't know 😊 Thank you for letting me know 😊
Huh, I heard this song in akiko shikata's ayashi album.
Play a variety of stringed instruments and drums and I've always wanted to learn koto and kumi daiko. Unfortunately for me the cost of a decent, well made koto or a wadaiko are too much expensive
can you talk about the Kanabō?
Is that Sakura Sakura, the song at the intro?
I got interested in Japanese culture because on anime
I picked my name randomly and I thought it was cool but I didn’t know it’s also an instrument
