I’m either playing this tomorrow on stream or Portable Ops. I told everyone on stream that as much as I enjoy Snake’s Revenge, which I beat tonight, this game is head and shoulders better.
Metal Gear 2, and it's soundtrack, was such an amazing thing. The game, it's story (especially for the time when games weren't known to have great stories), and what you actually see on screen all came together so well.
Some French guy remixed the whole soundtrack back in 1999 (the same year MG2 took place!). However, due to HDD failure he didn't polished these songs. Fortunately enough he made a backup CD he found nearly ten years later, which allowed him to recover the data and upload on the 'net. If it weren't for this HDD crash, we would have had brilliant remixed version of this already good soundtrack.
A lot of music from Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 was remixed for MGS: VR Missions, mate, including this and Theme Of Tara. Check my other vids and see if you recognise any more.
Ahh, 140.85. The one frequency that has been in nearly every MG game. When you think of a communications frequency in tactical espionage games, you think of the good old 140.85. It would be too much of a beauty if both games came in as a bonus with the upcoming HD collection, but if that happens it's like Metal Gear just had great sex with technology and the offsrpings become totally awesome.
I was late in playing the Metal Gear series, but I am SO glad that I played the series in order starting with the ports included in MGS3 Subsistence. I saw the game's progression, and still see MG2 as my favorite in the series because it was ahead of its time.
MG1 is great if you consider everything that it's brought to the genre. MG2 is an amelioration on the MG1 formula. I love both these games equally, but yeah, if we don't take into account the innovations, MG2 is the better game.
You got that right! MG1 didn't have a lot of story, but it set the standard for the gameplay. When MG2 game out, holy shit, did it have a good story! That's been a tradition that, thank goodness, has stuck with the series ever since.
00:34 progression sounds very similar to Goblin's "Roller", just a bit slowed down. Not sure if this was an influence but Kojima's being a cinema nerd and the soundtrack habing a few nod to classic movie themes, Goblin being a reference doesn't sound weird to me.
This is what the "Silverwing" song reminded me of or reminded someone like me of after hearing the intro to the song! MGS Intergral/Special Missing, MG2: Solid Snake, JENNIE TEBLER and others, we salute you! (You too, Nintendo and Bathory)
@chaosgreyblood MG1 and MG2 are definitely included as part of the HD collection. I don't think they'll be given any kind of upgrade like MGS2,MGS3 and Peace Walker, though.
Makes me wanna finish Metal Gear 1 & 2, the only MG games I have that is yet to be finished. Also, I still need to give MGS: Special Mission a whirl - I haven't properly played it! =S
Solidus Snake Background info. Plus the location (the intersecting border-land of Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China) and the fact the environments look similar in various places (particularly when you reach the top of the mountain right after killing The End and look down)
If they remade this game, I'd love if they included a part where you had to retrace some of Big Boss' steps in MGS3. Going through the ruins of Groznyj Grad or something.
I'm pretty sure Snake will appear in Metal Gear Solid:Rising (not as an playable character, but still =p) just as in MGS2.. And what's up with all the Raiden-haters? Okay, okay, he's not as cool as Snake, but he's not that bad. =p
@HyperShan3 Yeah, MG2 was WAY more playable than MG1... and much more interesting. MG1 is cool for the memory, but its basicness has turned many away from the series... Quite a shame really :|. Their loss.
spartan132 And the story is simple. In MG1 BIG BOSS is rude written villain rather than tragic hero and interesting character. But in MG2 he became an interesting character with his own motifs.
Man this song is so catchy. When I first played the game, the soundtrack blew me away.
yeah is fucking awesome in this game

Perfect for sneaking in gated entrances lol.
Metal Gear 2 is so darn good. Really deserves being played in a Metal Gear Solid marathon.
Anyone who over looks it is really missing out.

Import MG2 soundtrack in GZ. Play this immediately when you're in control. Just beware the enemies who can see beyond the 9 squares.
Just turn of the music and then download and play this song
@@graysnake8585 The bad side is that there's no ingame option to turn off music. Nor any real sound options except of choosing the output :/

Came here from Waldo being interrogated by a detective
Lumpy touch is a genius. Love it.
This should have played in MGS 4 when Colonel Campbell picked up Solid Snake in the chopper.
The bass line is still amazing
Okay, IF they ever remake this game they better have the soundtrack be remakes/remixes of these original tracks.
Agreed! These songs are classic. If they do remake these games, they should use the remixes of these songs that were featured in MGS VR Missions.
Some French guy remixed the whole soundtrack back in 1999 (the same year MG2 took place!). However, due to HDD failure he didn't polished these songs. Great song from this great classic game. It's so memorable.
Your right. This is nice theme of a classic game.
Wheres Waldo type beat

Well, get ready to play them on the new consoles and PC soon. :)

DJCandyManMike And don’t forget that the gameplay and the interesting stories then used in METAL GEAR SOLID.
I totally had this song playing in my head driving to work in the snow today....heh.
They don't make music like MG2's these days. Played this first time on the HD pack and this was the thing that kept me from quitting into MGS3
