So glad you got around to covering this one!
I have a sliver of insight on this record that I would love to share with you all here. I caught Model/Actriz performing with Palm, U.S. Girls, Crumb, and a few others in Brooklyn back in the spring - they put on a great show. After Model/Actriz's set I had a smoke on the balcony with the band's British publicist (something here about that Brooklyn-UK post-punk connection), and she shared with me the fun fact that during the writing and recording of this record, Cole Haden (the singer, as you call him) restricted himself to only listening to:
    1. Lady Gaga
    2. the soundtrack to the musical "Cats" (not sure which exact rendition or recording, though)
And I think it shows in his performance! Similar sense of twisted glam and dark, potent sexuality as Gaga, and we even have a direct lyrical reference to her in Crossing Guard: "like Germanotta, Stefani, Pull the weight from under me," Germanotta being Lady Gaga.
I'm afraid I'm not too hip on Cats, however, so I can't say if there are any direct lyrical references to it in this record - but I feel that the slinky, purring/roaring, freaky degraded back-alley show-tunes camp vibe of an ironic take on Cats is all over this, and I love it.
    Awesome Video As Always!

This is awesome. I love when I hear about artists doing oblique things to create music. Like king gizzard constantly setting new parameters on each of their albums, or when I heard about Bowie trying to avoid rock and roll, so he listened to alot of Kendrick Lamar when making black star.

AVAA! One of my favourites from the year, along with Hellmode! The lead singer's voice reminds me so much of Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu.

AVAA, I don't usually comment, but this is my favorite album of the year, and I just got to the part where you acknowledge Seth Manchester, the producer. He handled the production of the last couple of Lingua Ignota and Daughters albums. I don't see him get mentioned a lot despite having that on his resume along with this album and a bunch more amazing noise rock albums and even other genres. A non-noise rock album that he also produced, and one of my favorites of this decade, is Really From's self-titled from 2021. They're a Berkley-educated emo-jazz fusion band that writes about a lot of their struggles of being of different ethnicities/mixed race. It's much better than I could make it sound. Thanks for the video; maybe one of these days, I should read Dante's Inferno if so many great albums reference it.

AVAA, I am rewatching this, and I found it funny how you brought up the Charlie quote about how bleach smells good and then later talked about your friend's poem about semen smelling like bleach. Also, I'm pretty sure the album details two separate relationships. Most of the album is about one guy with whom he has a toxic relationship and the last two songs are about an entirely new relationship that is much more fulfilling and less harmful. That's why those two songs have a different sound from the rest of the album.

AAVA! to me this band is a mix of xiu xiu (amazing queer artist/band with a very big catalogue full of masterpieces) and a noise rock band à la Drive like jehu. It was one of my favourite albums of this year and I'm really excited to see what model/actriz does next. There are never enough queer artists

AVAA! Really enjoyed hearing your analysis of the record, I've been enjoying it off and on all year as a very visceral listening experience, but i never sat down with it and pulled apart the lyrics at all!
If i may push back a tiny bit on one point: You complained a bit about the use of "villian era," but I personally haven't head that term used as a shorthand for "I am being a garbage human being." The context i have encountered it in has been using the phrase to describe not caring if you are being perceived as a villian by someone when doing something like setting boundaries with them. One could turn that situation into an argument of whether or not you're a villian, or you could stick to your guns and say "fuck it, i guess im a villian now." I doubt this is universal usage, but I want to defend the concept of a "villian era" being a resolution to not be a doormat and accept that some people will hate you for it.

AVAA saw them play on their first headlining tour. Unreal. Honestly even if it’s not your thing, if you like the vibe at all, their live experience is beyond words, highly recommend it.

Saw them in April in a small venue and it was incredible. The lead singer came into the crowd and stood face to face with a few ppl and stared intensely at them while performing. One of the best shows I've seen

31:30 hi professor skye, lots of love from italy. I'll write my comment in italian so im sure to say what i felt in the right way, i believe in your skill to use google translate. Even though he is bragging about his “body count” the narrator still sees himself as essentially worthless - an insect that deserves only to be plucked out - yet he still relishes his position, asking for his partner to “pluck him out”.

I liked my first few spins of Dogsbody, but another industrial album this year might just end up beating Scaring the Hoes for my AOTY in the long run. I caught up on albums and tracks thanks to the year-end lists of my go-to sources (mainly Pitchfork, sue me haha), and I had the pleasure of sampling this band called Mandy, Indiana. their album "i've seen a way" reminded me a lot of Dogsbody, but with more digestible melodies and French female vocals that I could care less trying to understand, like how Cocteau Twins lyrics don't need to make any sense to make transcendent music
